This is an excellent video that makes its point very well. However, there is one flaw, but perhaps a lot of people won't realize it. I'm an entomologist, and the problem I see is that it portrays honey bees as if they are the bees (or at least among the bees) that engage in pseudocopulation with this orchid...but the honey bees one sees in the field are all workers (i.e., females), so they are not attracted by the pseudopheromones the flower produces. It is actually a species of a solitary bee (males of Eucera longicornis, so named because of the very long antennae) that is 'targeted' by this plant. The video also shows bumble bees (mostly males of Bombus pascuorum) that visit various flowers but are not specifically targeted by this plant. I mention this because, although I'm a Christian, many unbelieving colleagues would tend to be dismissive of the message if encountering such "poetic license".

Thank you for identifying the correct bee involved. I have known, since I was a kid, that the honey bees that are out collecting nectar are female and so should not be attracted to female hormones. Watching this this video's presentation was making me doubt the content creator's credentials. Although I have already seen enough evidence to know that Darwinian Evolution is B.S., I don't like to see sloppy documentaries. Let's leave questionable presentations to the atheists, since their arguments can't stand on their own. Again, thank you for the clarification.

I'm one of those Christians that believe God created through evolution. As such, I agree with you and have to point out a pretty big misunderstanding of evolution in this video. They claimed plants wouldn't evolve to be reliant on bees as they could get wiped out and threaten the survival of the plant... However, evolution isn't AI, it doesn't strategize, It's simply an engine of change that reacts directly to the environment it's currently in... Not selecting mutations based on a potential future calamity.
@bqgin
@bqgin 6 ай бұрын
Some evolution is logical. Giraffe for example. You get a cow in an area where there's only leaves to eat. So the taller cows can reach more leaves therefore are better fed and reproduce better. At the same time, trees that weren't fully eaten because they were taller than these cows, have the same advantage. So the arms race over long period of time creates very tall trees, and very tall cows, which are now so different from their predecesors they're their own thing now - a giraffe. But how does a plant not looking like a bee turn into a bee looking plant? And not just the appearance but also smell? At which point the plant appears "enough like a bee" to attract them better than others? And how could it get to that point, if before it reached it it was wasting resources on things that still didn't apppear wuite as a bee? How can one simple random mutation create difference big enough for this mechnism to occur?

Not only that, but the flower would have to be able to adapt, in real time, as the bees also "evolve" in order for an evolutionary symbiosis of this type to be plausible. Which would make a blind plant that cannot see color and shape, feel fur, or in any meaningful way differentiate a bee from any other insect upon it, somehow have innate knowledge of how to attract and deceive a bee, to reproduce.

At 5:56 the narrator asks a bunch of questions that basically defines evolution. Like, "why bother evolving all these mechanism that require extra resources. Leading to vulnerabilities to extinction". YES and they do. That is almost the definition of natural selection. If competition out competes a species it will either harshly evolve (with only the best alternative surviving) or more likely go extinct (if the collapse of the species is to sudden). With such short lifespans, we only see the result of evolution. Not the process.

Yeah it's quite a shame that evolution deniers are so uncreative in their thinking. It's as if they can only envision one reproductive strategy being viable for a species. And that one strategy must remain constant for millions of years. It's so weird that they limit their thinking that way. If they didn't, they would easily be able to come to the explanation that the plant reproduced through seed dispersal originally, and then through mutation, one plant randomly developed a very rudimentary pollination scheme that natural selection then refined upon. Eventually becoming more efficient than the seed dispersion strategy, and so eventually plants which expended unnecessary energy on that old reproductive strategy, died out, and we're left with the plants we see today.

I think the real question that the theory of evolution does not answer is what exactly was this plant before it learned to emulate bee hormones? You will never see animals evolve with wheels because there is no transitioning adaptation between leg and wheel that would be viable and allow the animal to survive. What is the intermediate evolutionary step between whatever this plant was before, and a bee mimic?
@Google_Censored_Commenter
@Google_Censored_Commenter 6 ай бұрын
@@yaboihere494 This is a misconception. There is almost always a transitionary step that's useful to the organism, or it would never transition in the first place. Being a poor mimic that only attracts one in a thousand bees, is still better than attracting zero. And attracting 2 in a thousands is better than that, and so on, until eventually you get a proper luring mechanism, and the plant no longer has to expend energy producing seeds.

@@Google_Censored_Commenter Yes, that makes sense for the vast majority of cases, and I do believe this flower evolved alongside bees. Still, there are examples in nature where it's unclear what exactly the transition is. It's especially puzzling to me how certain microscopic structures like mitochondria, or flagellar motors could have formed. These structures have enormous complexity that is largely irreducible. I believe in evolutionary theory for the most part, but I also believe there are aspects of biological life that cannot be explained with the evolutionary model, and to remove this possibility from consideration altogether is an unnecessary limitation to our thinking.

6:56 Good question, and interesting video. The answer, I think, is that both the flower and the bees changed slightly over generations like father/son and at the same time over thousands of generations or more and the odd-ball flowers that adapted some aspects of these strange traits had an advantage in reproducing due to their effectiveness, and thus we saw more of them over time whereas their ancestors may have died out. Clearly, this exact method of reproduction is not required for survival but the reason it was developed will always be simply because it ended up being reproduced/having a child, which is the driving force of "evolution." The more effective at reproduction, the more successful a species tends to be. In general, this plant has the same reproductive process as most plants, namely: 1. get a bug to step on the male powder, and then get that bug to happen to step on the female flower parts, thus fertilizing the egg. The more silly stuff plants can do to make this happen the better, scents happen to work pretty well.

Plants can only really sense the most basic colour levels of red, blue and little bit of green, as well as some amounts of non-visible light. The colour sensors (in the form of organelles the plant's cells) can only really detect the basic of those three colours in the light around them. The plants cannot tell the difference between the more specific bands of different wavelengths in the EM spectrum, as such they can't really use it to do anything along the lines of seeing as we think it to be. Usually the plant just uses the different light sensors to determine how much to grow and what to grow (leaves, bark, etc.).

I like the intent in this video, but I needed to make a correction if you'll allow me. As you said the description of flower and bee reproduction was simplified, but you omit to mention that worker bees are all female. The drones (male bees) reproduce the colony with the queen, but the honey collection is done by female bees. It changes your illustration but makes God's design even more amazing. Thanks.

There are a multitude of peer reviewed, globally scrutinised and accepted papers on evolution and its relative evidence of support, they are not secretly hidden away or anything they are accessible to you and me with a click of a button on the internet. We have a saying now that those who deny evolution simple don't understand it yet. When you deny evolution the burden becomes on yourself to provide an alternative that actually supports the same evidence and observations we make, unfortunately saying God did it or its in the bible fails at that because you would need to prove God first and using the bible to prove the bible is itself a logical fallacy.

In the effort to make this storey sound "elementary", I think some clarification needs to be made. Correct me if I'm wrong, Calvin, but my understanding is that all worker bees is that they are all female, but non-procreative. Queen bees are egg laying females and male "drones" mate with the queen and are later forced out of the hive. I'm partway through the video, so I'll have to see how things develop. So, the "simplification" of the bees in the first part sets up the actual explanation of the plant, the "true hero" of the storey. That works for me. I enjoyed the video. Thanks!

It must have been built by God. Evolutionist explanation: here’s a car 🚘. Although it seems complexed, all of the systems that run the car, were painstakingly built by trial and error, over a hundred years. Good ideas, like air conditioning and power steering were added, improved upon, and became standard. Bad ideas like inefficient engines, rubber tires, and leaded fuel, existed at one time, but were discarded once better technology came into existence. A person would be hard-pressed to find a”rubber” tire or “leaded” fuel today.

I do understand. You would have 2 species of the same kind of plant based off of the fact that the pre-existing genetic information present in the plant was arranged differently. But notice, there were already short and tall (and likely medium) variants already in existence, before you start culling the medium and tall plants. What evolution needs to show is a mechanism that could create new forms, functions and features in creatures that never existed before, so speciation is not an example of evolution. Your example fails to describe how new genetic information could come about, as do all examples I have ever been presented with (bacterial resistance, insect resistance to pesticides, peppered moths, etc.) It would be like having a large group of people try to walk through a narrow, low ceilinged tunnel. Only certain people would fit the profile, separating the bigger people from the smaller- and then, depending on whether the genetic profile of the 2 groups allowed them to produce offspring or not- declaring them 2 different kinds of humans.

@@calvinsmith7575 The mechanism is the new genetic variations which occur randomly in every individual in every generation. Those variations are new genetic information for selection and drift to act on. Over time the new genetic information filtered by selection produces new features, new morphologies, new species. This has been observed and documented both in the lab and in the field. Science has know about this mechanism for over 70 years. it has been explained to creationists _ad nauseum_ but they just refuse to accept reality.

@@calvinsmith7575 The "variants already in existence" ARE examples of new genetic information. And there are many other examples of genetic variation occurring that were NOT there before. Yes, the new species would still be dandelions. That is how evolution works. It can only build on what it already has. Over time the two lines would accumulate more differences and keep diverging. But it would be many thousands of years before they are recognizably different. That's how evolution works. No organism ever gives birth to a different species. They evolve more slowly.

Therefore just one flower with this mutation will reproduce, thus resulting in this symbiosis between the bee and flower.

You see, the problem is that the small mutations that would lead with millions of years to especifically this adaptation would be so complex and unprobable, if mutations are random in nature. Also, for millions of years that plant was in the same enviroments than the bee species, but also with many more insects. How is that we are not seeing more many plants with insect like features? My point is, mutations could be not random. I am not christian, i believe in resonance and coherence.

And of course energy can be turned into matter and vice-versa as described by the famous E=MC² formula. Your hearts are hardened because despite of all the evidence, recognizing there is a God would also come with moral implications. Evil happens precisely because we are a humanity that does not want God. We are getting farther and farther away from Him as time passes - all the while glorifying satan. Just take a look at the entertainment industry. The rise of satanism. Look at the videoclips and how everyone has been referencing the devil. From Lil Nas X to Sam Smith, and all the rest in between. This is all done by design. There is a devil, and he has inspired the minds of the powerful men of the world. God has provided a savior. And also promised that this present world will be consumed with fire. I dont know why this plant was evolved this way but i can definitely believe that it was evolved. Evolution is a long process and inefficient and it probably went like this 1. A few bees helped the plant spread its seeds 2. Because the plant now has an advantage if the bee keeps spreading it seeds it develops bee-like features 3. A bunch of plants together now form a co-population mechanism to better their gene pool 4. Were done! Very simple, because im not studying this topic, but you can create a bee without seeing a bee, if you have a million years of guessing. If the long track of orchids made a bee red, they would simple be wrong and die, if it made it yellow, good, it will now stay yellow forever with exceptions because of mutations. Evolution isnt like learning. You cant teach evolution. Evolution does random stuff, makes things longer, shorter, a different color, shape, size, anything, and if it works it works, if it dosnt, it dosnt, then it tries again for the next generation. If anything it being dependent on bee’s for growth is a proof that god dosnt against. If being dependent on the bee’s on a time-period is more beneficial it will simply be dependent on the bee’s who would bother? They will never switch out of the bee-cupid archetype because its their local proxima and switching needs changes that make them worse. This makes SO MUCH SENSE to me. Evolution dosnt listen to logic because its not logical. Again its a tinkerer. It’ll answer 5+6 with Is it 1? Is it 2? Is it 3? Is it 4? On and on and on until it gets it right. Then if the answer to 5+6 changes because all the bees ran away and now they cant mate, they will be guessing too slowly to cope with the pressure and die. Simply die Wow! What intelligent design god! Seriously good job! It goes to show that none of the people behind this video knew anything about evolution before making this video. And then pertend to know all about it in there critique. Almost all of their videos are like this and it only confirms my beliefs in atheism because this is the competition.

The primary focus for a drone is to mate with a queen." which would explain them fertilising the orchid and it also said that drone bees are kicked out of the hive in fall due to foraging shortage and they die.
