I just got back from his shop in Illinois. Drove 13 1/2 hours from NY to have Ahmed and his team do 30,000 Mile service including the transmission. MY 17 Tacoma ran flawlessly on the way back to NY. Worth every mile I drove to have the team at TCCN Automotive work on my truck. I got to meet Ahmed and he is every bit the gentleman and professional you see in his videos! 100% recommend anyone thinking of taking their vehicle to him. Best shop you’ll ever find. Period!

The shop told my buddy that the trans on his 06 Matrix was shot. The car has over 300,000 miles. I dropped the pan and both solenoids were gummed up from dirt. Cleaned them up, fresh fluid, and I swapped out the rusty lines and the car has been going strong for a year now. His commute if 40 miles a day, god knows how many miles it has now. The OD stopped working at 299,999.

I spot my 94 Land Cruiser!! Cheers to the best in the business and your family as well, without them, none of this would be possible.

At about 12 minutes in, I had seen enough, too much deferred maintenance. Don't throw good money at that truck, too much rust. I feel bad for anybody living in an area that causes vehicles to rust like that. Great video, just be careful under that truck.

Dealers took the transmission dipstick away, so how can you check the transmission fluid without taking it to a shop? The transmission dipstick should never have been eliminated.

I’m so glad when I got my 2014 Tacoma I’ve been putting Fluid Film all over the frame, crossmembers, under the fenders, bolts, etc. My truck looks brand new underneath.

The owners that previously owned this vehicle really got the moneys worth but I feel bad for the sucker that bought this vehicle last. You inherited all the neglect from the first day this vehicle rolled off the showroom/assembly line. Lesson learned is maintain your vehicle it will pay dividends for decades.

I am in California and work on cars and used to rust free cars. I can't imagine being a mechanic who has to work on rusted cars like this one in the rust belt areas of the US.

the 2006 looks alot like the 2004 Tundra SR5, unfortunately people do NOT change the tran fluid. it should be done like every 40ish Thousand miles, just drain it.. and refill no flushing or anything funny that might cause more damage than good. Just drain and refill it recharges the trany fluid.

I wish that gentleman best of luck. I believe you AND he are going the correct route. With 90,000 miles, if tranny seems all right, I'd TAKE a chance & fix shocks then axles. Only 90,000 is worth the risk. After repairing everything, he ought to get an undercoating job done. It will prolong lines & frame. Looks in great shape! And STILL better than car payments/price of a new one. 👍

I like the idea that you make your customers buy OEM, or the repair does not get done.

Yikes! Two sure ways to kill a Yotas are 1) accident and 2) rust. When I lived in Maine, rust usually killed cars within 7-9 years. I’d get rid of this thing asap.

AMD. I'm a retired commercial aviation mechanic, so you know that I'm really OCD since we were responsible for hundreds of lives on every plane we worked on. I can't commend you enough for your honesty and respect for your customers. Thank You!!! I sense your hesitation on going any further with this vehicle. I don't blame you! FWIW, and IMHO, I would walk away and recommend that the owner salvage title that vehicle and sell it as a parts vehicle. I firmly believe he'll be money ahead. Even if that tranny holds, I just can't see how he'll ever be able to drive it ling enough for the cost benefit before that metal Cancer finishes it off. Personally I would NEVER sell that vehicle as a driver even with everything fixed. It's too far gone. Salvage for parts. Just my honest opinion.

Wow the owner really let this one go without dealing with anything.. or never had it looked at for years. Poor truck could have had a much better life and been a lot more enjoyable to drive !

That 4Runner deserved better not even 100,000 miles …SMH a little fluid film or something and just a little more maintenance!

These new toyotas are becoming a lot more delicate got and old rav4 ran rhe transmission very low on fluid went thru bottles of Lucas non slip and i even changed the fluid and filter and 200k miles when it had never been changed and it shiftd even smoother than before

If people just did a little bit of preventative maintenance these issues would be greatly decreased.

Does this apply to a 5th Gen 4Runner? BTW, if you want to prevent your 4Runner from rusting this is what I know works. Inside frame rails, doors etc (anywhere enclosed) use PB Blaster "Surface Shield". Everything underbody (exterior of frame, axles, floor etc.) use Cosmoline (RP-342) from "Cosmoline Direct".

That old fluid looked pretty good for being as old as it was. It's gonna be interesting to see if the tranny survived being 4 quarts low!

Being from California, the underside of this 4Runner looks like the Titanic to me. Hope the trans is okay.

To be honest, whilst I feel a little bad for the owner. It does seem like he could've given it a bit more TLC than he did. Ripped boots, bluetooth shocks, that leak of the trans should've left puddles where he parked. I've been in this situation too, but atleast I can tell myself It wasn't for lack of trying. Here though... why wait so long with everything. It feels a bit neglected...

I’ve had a Nissan oil pan rust a hole in it 😮 and subframes break from rust 😢 In winter vehicles are white with salt more than snow 😂

99k on an 06 4Runner and it’s this bad, If the tranny is shot I would get a used one and go ahead and repair all that is needed. Believe it or not this 4 runner can go another 200K easy with all the repairs needed. Just like the owner of the 80 series Land Cruiser taking care of what is needed. Once all repairs are done simple maintenance to keep it going. Oh and if you live in the rust belt wash your under carriage often to keep the rust away as long as possible!

I sure hope you had a long talk with this owner about preventative maintenance and protecting his vehicle in the future, because this is just ridiculous. Should’ve never gotten to this point imo. Appreciate the content!! God bless~

You certainly gave this a valiant effort. I truly hope that this transmission has been saved, but for how long? My concern is regarding that "sealed" transmission. Checking the fluid level seems to be at least an effort if not a pain. Is there no warning light or Code generated to indicate that the trans is a quart or more low? I have a 2006 Avalon (I know, the "worst" year to have) it has a dipstick. I check it, I check the oil, the power steering, the brake fluid and the coolant, weekly. Maybe I am paranoid about it but that's how I found my power steering line leak before it became a problem. I am disgusted that Toyota joined the ranks of other insincere car manufacturers, who don't care about customers or quality, to make a system that can fail catastrophically without a hint of the trouble until it may be too late. Almost 5 qts low!! No excuse Toyota.

Even after losing 3 quarts of ATF fluid, still running smoothly...A750 transmission is truly bulletproof😮

I have a 4 Runner the same year as that one, 216000 trouble free miles I live in the south so no rust. I change my transmission fluid every 30,000 I know you can go longer but transmission fluid is cheap a new transmission is not. Glad it worked out for the owner these trucks will last forever properly maintained and no rust.

That tip about setting the hose clamps where they were is a great tip. Not something I would have considered.

For those in the rust belt, try using fluid film spray on the frame. Also, do your maintenance guys! This Toyota would have been totally fine if the owner sprayed down the frame with fluid film every fall and did the correct maintenance.

Some people with trucks with this transmission replaced that terrible allen head level check bolt with another 14mm drain bolt before it's too late.

We have a friend in Salem, Missouri who has a 2006 4Runner. He is not in the rust belt. His has 332,000 miles on it. He changes the oil regularly but has never done anything with the transmission and it's still running fine. I just did a drain and fill of the ATF on our 2009 RAV4 which as just over 100,000 miles on it. However, the transmission only has 36,000 miles on it because the original tranny was replaced by the Toyota dealer due to a defect. The cost of replacement was paid in full by an aftermarket warranty.

AMD, that sad Forerunner looks about as bad underneath as most of the stuff in my home state of Rhode Island. I have had to dispose of many vehicles here. I think there is more life there, but a shame at 100,000 miles. I hope your trans service goes well for you. It is amazing that as busy as you are, you still give 100% to each customer! After a few weeks or months, please consider making a video on an update for the Toyota Transmission... and whether or not it turned out well, or the trans was lost.... and whether the owner decided to invest more in the other repairs it needed.

Spray your frame with Fluid Film once a year to avoid all that corrosion.

Another very informative video. A vehicle in that state would never get through the annual safety and roadworthiness test in the UK (The MoT). In its present state it would fail on the front drive shafts, the seized front brake, the corroded brake lines and the rear shock absorbers not to mention the tyre condition. Well done on replacing the transmission fluid but that is only part of the story. The state of it is very concerning from a road safety aspect.

AMD, I owned a 4th Gen 4Runner and did a lot of off roading with other 4th Gen 4Runner owners... the guys with X-Reas suspension removed it when they swapped out the factory shocks to lift their 4Runners. No one I knew saw any benefit to having X-Reas.

Why would Toyota even introduce this metal pipe assembly if it just runs a short distance and has rubber hoses on each end?

I checked in the internet about the reax schock system and is to improve cornering handling but they acknowledge that is very expensive to replace and recommend to be removed 🙏🏽

Happened to my mothers FJ cruiser, all the fluid leaked out and I had to go pick her up as it stopped moving. It was these cooler lines and I filled it up with the correct procedure and ws fluid, been fine for over 2 months now.

This is extremely relevant for me right now as I just replaced all these lines, as well as the inlet and out trans cooler lines coming out of the transmission on 06 V8 4runner. I'm somewhat a beginner DIYer as it's my first time doing many of these jobs.. but watching your videos like this for certain really makes me feel like I'm learning a whole lot and its starting to pay off. Much described in the video of what this 4runner needed is what I have taken upon myself to do on mine - CV Axles, Wheel bearing, seized front caliper, and trans line leaks. Almost identical. It's just that in this video, unfortunately his car has far worse damage regarding the rust. I pray for him that his transmission comes to back to operating order. I love my 4runner, and as a matter fact I have two of them, both 06s. My V8 has 183k, while other one is a v6 with 337k miles now and runs flawlessly. Maintenance really is key, and I can't wait to complete my v8 as a full on learning project and overland build. I just worried about the potential loss of ATF, but she feels really healthy otherwise and I feel a lot better about it with research regarding the topic. I'm happy to see such supporting content and look forward for updates this truck and it's transmission. I pray for the owner that he can keep his baby. If all works out, maybe he can look to upgrading his suspension instead of going stock - a worthwhile fun, upgrade and investment while he'll need to do it.

It was very damp inside, thought it was due to detailers. Found the fresh air intake broken. This is evedently a common issue. The dealer did all service on this prior. There is a fix, a guy makes and sells on etsy, has a KZfaq video. Thought it might be a good topic because I had a hard time finding info on this. Thanks for your good work. I've been a Mechanic for 35 years and am sad about the state of the industry.

I’m so glad I live in SoCal. 2007 Tacoma w/168k miles, very very little rust. Front and Backs Shocks replaced with Bilstein 5100’s at 140k. Never been left on the road.

I started watching the channel during the pandemic. It doesn’t surprise me a bit how far it has grown. It’s hard to find honest mechanics and a shop that helps customers save money. You’re a dream owner for a mechanic. I hate turning wrenches for someone that has no clue what you’re doing but evaluate you by your numbers. Your videos have always been informative and not boring to watch. Looking forward to seeing what the future brings but keep up the great work car care nut family.

i can’t help but remember my 99 tacoma how badly it rusted and i had to let it go in 2023. dealer serviced since i got it in 2008, it wasn’t rusted back then. Over the years, i spent $15k CAD on repairs, mostly the last 5 years of ownership. They NEVER mentioned to me anything about the rust and rot. they just happily took my money.

Here in England Toyota 4x4's are really expensive used, so too are the hybrid Toyota models. Used to be able to buy used Toyotas cheaply, but that's changed over the last few years, seems more people have cottoned on they're good products. Rust is the killer in England too, i treat my 2005 Prado every year, its still rock solid.

@20:15 Those are how the parts come from the supplier to the assembly plants. A parts bin on the production floor may contain 30 of those parts and aren’t individually wrapped so the caps are on there to keep contamination out. Low use service parts are purchased periodically from the same supply chain so you get some of the same weird packaging quirks. This typically doesn’t apply to consumable parts like water pumps, brakes, etc.

I like your rust belt trick on those rusty bolts, I do this almost daily even if heat could be applied before using a decent 3/8" Lithium ion powered impact.

My XREAS failed too on my 4th Gen, NOT WORTH REPLACING WITH XREAS. I ripped it all out and put in Dobinsons off-road springs and shocks. XREAS does not rly offer an off road benefit it’s really meant for cornering on road.

My 2012 GX460 has original transmission fluid with 199k miles. I had solenoid codes with flashing 4 low. Ordered a 2017 trans with 31k miles and warranty. $5k

Thank you for this video, also the great looking and running vehicles in your shop. I'm going to change the transmission fluid in my 2020 RAV4 before summer. I have the video you recorded for the fluid change. My XTOOL D8BT is the go to Diag tool, thank you for that recommendation, and I remember watching that trans fluid temp reading I saw in the tool's readout. I'm keeping this video as a backup to the other one. Would have changed it last year but thanks to jury duty and other things that came along, this will be the 5th ownership year, and the fluid change. Good one Ahmed!
