One little tip for some of the first timers. When assembling the power valves and you have certain parts that are “right” or “left” specific and you’re unsure which side is which, you can usually find on the cylinder “R” for right or “L” for left stamped on the cylinder. If you notice in this video you will see the R or L stamped when Uncle Chuck is assembling the cams in the power valve.

I have never messed with power valves before and initially when you showed all the parts layed out, I was thinking that it was going to be pretty complicated. But watching you install them, you did an excellent job of explaining each step and put plenty of information in as to why and how you are doing things. I now know, that I would not have an issue taking on that job in the future if it ever came up for me. Appreciate this video and the bike looks sick!!!

This is my first comment on this channel, as well as a new subscriber to your channel. I absolutely love motorcycles of all kinds, but I've only ever owned street bikes(crotch-rockets) and have always wanted a dirtbike/MX bike since I was a little boy growing up in the 80's. I absolutely love the fact that you're fixing up these older bikes!!! Astonished that these "older" bikes are even still around, let alone restored and/or given away. God bless and great job!!!

Every part that you’re putting on that RM is awesome! But my favorite is definitely the black hardware! Seems like a small thing but the contrast it provides against that shiny vapor blasted metal takes this build to the next level! I hope the winner of the bike truly appreciates the insane amount of work and detail that’s gone into making it perfect!

Thanks brotha! Honestly, you'd have to fill me in on your definitions for those terms too. I could only say that, as time goes on & more bikes are revived- that I am fulfilling a part of myself & soul that I cannot ignore or would want to live without. (sense of purpose, learning, and trying new concepts that benefit others) Whatever category that falls into 😆 People can call it whatever they want. It's so far past words or labels for me.
@official744
@official744 Ай бұрын
@@mxrevival I'm gonna start calling my builds revivals ..maybe we've unlocked a new build term due to your stuff being so wild 😂 My definition, and people can correct me if I'm wrong as these are just my take, Nut and bolt build - fully rebuilt to a new condition (but not OEM) Restoration - fully rebuilt back to OEM as it would have been on the show room floor. Resto mod - fully rebuilt with enhancements like new front ends etc

You introduced me to vapor blasting and I fell in love with it. Also you have sparked an idea of my own I would love to see come true one day. It’s simple really, build bikes like you, but instead of “raffles” I want to find that family that can’t quite swing Christmas this year. I truly believe any form of moto is the best sport in the world. Why not help spread the culture and passion around some. Maybe one day we could do a build together! Keep up the “Bitchin” work, the heavy metal, and childish shenanigans! Also I have no idea why I’ve been watching your builds for years and never sub’d…. Much apologies…..

When you apply loc-tite do you let it dry on like you get when you buy new hardware or assemble wet on the bolt? Does it matter or make a difference?
@mxrevival
@mxrevival Ай бұрын
Just like a fun Friday night, I go it wet! I have never tried that, letting it dry first. In this particular case, I wouldn’t want the dry flakes coming off inside the exhaust valve area as the hardware is threaded in. But in some cases, such as the brake rotor bolts that Bolt Motorcycle Hardware sells with thread locker pre-applied… that obviously works just fine! I’ve always assumed that the heat created by tightening those fasteners must allow the pre-applied thread locker to bond once it is installed (say, when installing a rotor onto a hub for example) Great question!
@mmazz30
@mmazz30 Ай бұрын
Like Charles explained, the friction of tightening something, brings on the heat. It’s also anaerobic adhesives that cure in the absence of air.

Doing a personal and somewhat secret in terms of content 1997 RM250 Build. Your biggest hardship is probably going to be the transmission gears. They are extremely difficult to find. Everything else is still pretty much out there if not new on eBay. (exhaust valve assemblies, etc..) I would take it all apart first and find out what you need, then then make the call on how far you want to go.

You mentioned that you preferred a Japanese rod instead of the hot cam version (that I’m assuming is made in China). Which manufacturer did you choose to use? Pro-X to match the piston? Know if all rods from that manufacturer are indeed Japanese?
@mxrevival
@mxrevival Ай бұрын
Well, I didn’t quite say much in either direction! 😆 But, Pro-X (rod kit) has a really great reputation and is basically direct match in OEM quality as I’ve come to understand it and was taught. I’m not actually sure hot rod makes a solo rod kit… The complete hot rods crankshaft assembly is an amazing value for the budget conscious and often times somebody looking for a drop in solution or alternative to a complete OEM set up. The Japanese does have a better track record. My next statement would need to be backed up with facts - but I believe Pro-X was acquired by another company recently. I have heard that some of the components are not always coming from Japan any longer. I don’t know the specifics, but you can check any box you receive when you place an order to double check its country of origin. In the case of the rod kit, Japan! 🇯🇵 I hope that helps somewhat!

Well, first- Thanks for watching! Second- please do not sand blast your parts! This is vapor blasting (uses media and water). It has a nice, bright finish. Sand will tear them up. I would spend some serious time getting familiar with all the different media types and then throwing down a few years practicing. It just takes time to use & learn all the in's-out's of the equipment & the process. Your business doing so will follow your action steps 💪

Big ass titties Chuck! Looking fresh AF! Question man… any chance you ever try the wossner positions? Put one in the Honda 125 and seems pretty sick so far. Threw a vhm head on with their higher compression SX dome. Between the head dome and piston the compression level went from 150 ish stock to near 170 lol😳 tons for a 125 haha. Anywho keep it real bro dont do anything I wouldn’t and if you do name it after me lol😂

😂 Ty always with the best comedy in the chat! DD's in the house... Yes I have used a few Wos. pistons over the years but I can't say I have a preference or any opinion. If it pumps air & fuel to the right place without falling apart, I'm a happy guy! While not always the most technical guy in some cases (this one) The VHM is sweet. I enjoyed on my 2500SX years back. My next mishap will def be named B.A.T.T. Big A Tiddiez Ty

How hard is it to find parts for this rebuild? Are OEM parts still available for the power valve assembly?
@mxrevival
@mxrevival 23 күн бұрын
It’s getting more difficult for sure. You can still find some NOS out there, but it is certainly not as easy as hopping on your favorite OEM parts provider and swooping up parts like it’s a YZ 250 for example
