In this Jazz Drummer Q-Tip of the Week drum set lesson, I break down a very simple rhythm that bops like crazy. It is a rhythm that bebop musicians played a lot and after you watch this video, you will also think that this simple rhythm bops like crazy. Bebop is the foundation of all modern day

Philly Joe was a master at using drum rudiments at short phrases or even solos. To me he was one of the best at it. Very good lesson Quincy. The bop style was the very first that I learned when I started to play the drums many years ago.

Absolutely LOVE your videos and playing! Question: How do you have your bass drum tuned & muffled? I assume both heads are single ply coated? It has the perfect amount of deadness AND sustain.
@drumqtips
@drumqtips 11 ай бұрын
Short answer, good. I just mess with it until I find that sweet spot between low end, clarity and overall pleasantness of sound quality. Hear-wise, beater side is an Aquarian Force I and resonant head is the drum head that comes with the kit. I believe it’s two ply, but it actually doesn’t say what it is🙄. Glad you like the sounds Kev!

Hey Quincy, hope you are ok. Thank you for another great lesson. Hope you don't mind me suggesting a theme for a future lesson here in the comments. There's a special type of Latin grooves that I never quite figured out. I don't know how to explain them very well; they don't use the ride cymbal, just drums, and they seem to use a mix of rim shots and cross-sticks... I'm not sure. To tell you what I mean, Frank Butler plays an incredible groove of that kind in Curtis Counce's version of Nica's Dream. Anyway, sorry for the long comment and I hope I wasn't too confusing!! All the best to you and thank you for your work
