In today’s video, we discuss the pro’s and con’s to everyone’s favorite truck plow the V plow! It’s been around since 1775 before the birth of America and around then it was the bee’s knees but today in 2023 is it still? The short answer is no the long answer is in the video…

The artic razer back will be a game changer. It just might be the perfect fits all plow. Still able to windrow effectively but also carry massive amounts of snow and not be rough on the truck when hitting things under the snow.

Everything you have said is why many places in Canada have gone to high volume, high hp (200-300hp), massive snowblowers that have rotary drums and can cast snow well over 100 ft. The largest 102" - 108" blowers by Pronovost, Zaugg, Schmidt, etc can move 2,500 tons per hour, that is an amount a pickup truck guy could never even dream of. The great thing about a large blower in commercial accounts like you demonstrated your blower touches the snow once and its out of your way, with a plow you have to plow the same snow multiple times as it collapses back on your track, it sucks to push, once there is a banking you cannot get the snow up and over.

On a V plow on a 250 or a 350 The 9‘6“ V is by far superior and get it with the high wings adds more weight for back dragging and if you’re scared of the corners of the plow touching the blacktop when they’re wing back just open up the V a little with the controller and you’re good to go if you get a blizzard that’s wet and heavy and you sleep late that V plow will put you back on the map ! the rest of the guys are going to slide off the road sideways and spent three hours digging out their truck lol I’ll drive by I also run a western white out on a different F350 great for swiping parking lots when it’s cold and fluffy get both

That’s was very thorough and well put together. I agree V plows have their fit in the snow game. I personally love the wideout and have both the wideout and a v plow. The wideout is so much more efficient. Just like you said the v plow is good for that first initial pass on the big storms. Either way they both push snow and get the job done. The wider the plow the better

We run 12-18 snow wing blades on wheel loaders, for commercial applications, but we have used them on our own personal residential lanes for fun in our off time. Basically a big wideout blade. V plows and straight blades are a waste of time if you have designated snow deposits

Everybody takes for granted the technology now with plows like the Snopower or the new Arctic truck plow. And most people now think V-plows are garbage. But let’s look back to when a V-plow wasn’t even a thing and even was plowing snow commercially with a 7’6” or 8’ straight blade.

Right on! All great info! We can't get 9'2 or 9'6 btn cars in our lots or single drives between city houses with garage in backyard. Can't use 8' front straight blade either because it will push the truck into the house and the pile gets too big. If you try and back blade with a front blade it takes forever.

I agree mostly, I do small commercial in the Southside of the twin cities and I have the same plow but with the added wings which makes it more viable. It gets you out farther by buildings and corners and can scoop more like a wideout . It's multi tasking like you said but not ideal for all. The new F12/14 is really where it's at right now.

To your point about big storms and being able to cut in the V plow...it's also critical if you have residential accounts with uphill driveways. A heavy wet snow with a crust of freezing rain on top is a nightmare for straight blades. You've got to sawtooth your way up the driveway and that can get sketchy if you get sideways on a steep driveway. It's great for breaking through drifts from smaller storms. It's also better to have the MVP tapered blades. You can toss that snow far on long runs in parking lots. I've been searching for the perfect plow for 30 years and don't believe that there is one. You make concessions that favor your own accounts. That being said. Someone else pointed out the new Arctic plow that fits into the Fisher/Western mounts and uses the same controller.
@marm842

Lets see you dont go in full scoop in open area. Back it up which it gets wider. Also go with the 9 6 mvp3 . Taller plow. Also in scoop the plow will roll the snow in front of it. The f14 is nice but is not tall enough. Is ok for parking lots an only 2 to 6inches of snow on them. No drifts. You can change the pitch on the cutting edge . On the back of the a frame. My mvp3 will back drag with the best of them. For scrapeing a payloader or skidder is best. You dont tear the trannys an trucks up as bad that way.

I have plowed commercially for years and still windrow the parking lots. When the bank gets too big you bulk it off then go back to windowing. In my opinion all sno powers are good for is overworking the truck and making bigger messes than the blades are worth. I have watched numerous videos of guys using sno power front blades to clear parking lots and they spend just as much if not more time chasing the trails that come off the blade than actually making progress on the lots Just carrying snow across the parking you are not using the plow efficiently. Yes a back blade is going to plow a more efficient plowing horse shoes. The defiance back blade is priced at 17,000. The cost to effectiveness is not there.
