I’d prefer a much shorter ratio for the canyons, so I can shift between gears every corner. But the long gears definitely suits the Nurburgring and AutoBahn more.

lower or taller gear ratio doesn't equate to more torque at higher rpm, that has to do with a lot of other factors. Gear ratio just relates to overall torque. SO having a 3:1 gear ratio (taller) over a 4:1 gear ratio (shorter), doesn't mean that peak torque shifts from low rpm to high rpm; It means that there's less torque in that given gear, higher top speed and lower torque. If you're talking about a Powerband or peak torque that's achieved higher in the rpm, that has to do with other factors: Volumetric efficiency, e.g. Most turbo cars make peak torque way before NA cars. Stroke length, and bore x stroke ratio. F1 Cars make peak power at like 8krpm and they have very oversquare engines with tiny stroke lengths. With an oversquare engine and the right internals, high rpm is possible. In cars that are capable of higher rpm, their powerband is usually shifted up and they make peak torque much later, and vice versa for low rpm high torque engines like trucks or diesels. Gear ratio doesn't change power band, or rpm where peak torque is achieved. What you are feeling in this v8 versus a truck or mustang: A smaller displacement, oversquare engine that was literally built like a race car with more defined limits as for reliability sake. 8400rpm, 4.0l large bore tiny stroke. Engine was literally repurposed for use in a whole decade of gt3 racing. Engines like this are either nonexistent today because of emissions, or rare even a decade ago. There's many reasons why oversquare v8's aren't popular in road cars, but it mainly has to do with not providing low rpm torque. Basically why v8's were popular in the first place, is because daily driving and putting around town or cruising on the highway is a menial task because you hit peak rpm so low, you don't have to rev out the engine. People even hoon after cars with low peak rpm in sports cars even, that's why turbos are so popular. Versus NA cars. The only true NA high rpm torque car that still exists is the gt3 nowadays. All others are extinct because of the car market, and emissions. The S65 was glorious because to get a v8 like that you'd have to pay ferrari prices nowadays, and still would probably get a turbo charger slapped onto it.
