The point I think you are missing is that they don't expect everyone to catch the daily limit. Now with live scope everyone can get the limit so now the limit needs to be changed. Using live scope is like using a drone to deer hunt

I get that they don’t expect everyone to reach a limit, but why wouldn’t you set a realistic limit? Why give so much latitude to anglers to possible reach a goal that is bad for the fishery?

You mentioned Mark Twain Lake, which I fish often any time the water is open. I mainly crappie fish during the colder months, November to May. Three or four years ago we could go out in the winter months and you MIGHT see a couple of boats. Since FFS has become popular and people have learned to use it there are 15-30 boats easily on the water every day during the same time of year. That is slowest time of the year. Of course, there are tons of fish caught during the spawn just like there always was but the pressure the rest of the year has increased dramatically. I have Livescope, they can't hide, and how anyone thinks it won't impact some fisheries just baffles me.

Oh I'm positive it'll impact fisheries if the take limits are not responsible. I'm just so shocked to learn that so many conservation departments set limits that are unsafe if anglers have high success rates. I spend a lot of time on MTL, even in the winter I have never seen it not be busy, even before LS. I do enjoy how it thins out when summer ends and the night get cold, though.

Live sonar is ruining fishing in public fisheries.

How? The Penguin just explained it. Live sonar only decreases the time it takes a person to catch a limit of fish. It doesn't change the limit amount.

@@altg5708 All the public fisheries near me have no limits, and the fishing has been getting worse and worse every year. Unless you have a live scope, then your doing just fine.

I would argue that it’s not live scope ruining your public fisheries, it’s that they have no limit. That’s not responsible conservation.

@@PenguinOutdoors They did not need limits before live scope. The limit was how skilled you were. So for example, I don't catch much so my impact on the fishery was minimal. But with live scope I would have a higher impact. I think there should be fisheries that allow them and others that dont. This way if you want to fish more natually you can do so and not have to worry about live scope presssure. And the live scopers can go battle amongst themselves until there are no fish left.

These limits were set long before live scope came into existence. Only a handful of fisherman could get there limits. Now anyone who can afford it can go get a limit watching a video screen. All those who have LS can go out and catch a limit with no skills. Research a little deeper...

The existence of live scope shouldn’t matter. The point I’m making is why would a limit be set that is not safe for the fishery if anglers are able to routinely obtain it? Technology and fishing in general changes all of the time. Live scope is irrelevant to my primary point which is that agencies should set a limit that is safe for the fishery assuming anglers will be successful, and not a limit that is only safe for the fishery if anglers can’t regularly reach it.

Take limit should be 5 fish per day or 5 lb which ever comes first .

The main problem with game laws in general is that we have an entitled society who thinks the laws apply to everyone except themselves. Sports reflect society in general... see college football if you need an example.

Not sure what you’re driving at. The changes to the limits aren’t about poaching, it’s about angler success within the set limits with legal take.

@@lanceh.5671 The regulations are not changing due to poaching, and nobody is saying anglers are taking more than their limit. The MS DNR is saying that people are harvesting legal limits far too often and that means the limits have to change. No splitting hairs, it's just that poaching and disregard for the law do not apply to this article or discussion.

I’m torn. I do not have LS but I can see the value in eliminating dead water. That said I just feel like there’s a thrill of the chase I was raised on that LS would kill. So I don’t have it.

I don’t think limit adjustments are punishment, personally. Limits are limits and we accept them in the interest of conservation. So if they change I don’t take that as a form of punishment, it’s just part of the model.
