I am adamant that I want to improve my golf, I've watched 100s of videos, I have to say, this is the best drill I've used that instantly felt improvement. I didn't use a wall, I took it straight to the range and had the thought in my head of driving the butt of the club into a wall. Ball striking and dispersion was instantly improved. Thanks Russ, if only I saw this 20 years ago 🤣🤣👍👍👍

amazingly helpful drill, immediately removes the skipping the rock thinking and puts my striking the ball in a much better ball compression position.

Russ this is it man. We had started online lessons a few months back but I had a family emergency that caused me to have to pause those. Well, I'm back working on my game and this drill is fantastic. I've been searching for that "feeling" that works best for me for about a year now. I've had success here and there on the course but either I didn't like the feeling of things or I didn't love the way they looked on camera. I'm 34, I just picked golf back up last year after not playing since high school and I have been all over trying to find my feels. I've used Shiels, Malaska, Monte, Clement, Be Better Golf, Me and My Golf, Cogorno, Stack N Tilt, Bender, Dietrick, you name em, I've probably tried their method because I wanted to find what worked BEST for me. Like I said, this is it. It seems so simple, thinking about the butt end of the club and putting it back onto the wall. It also helps with keeping a firm lead side as well because you're not going to want to smash the end of your handle into the wall too hard. Love this drill.

Thanks, great drill, for something I’ve been working on recently. Noticed that seeing the end of the handle visually come over the toes on my right foot also gives me a little bit of side crunch, and that inside swing path I’m trying to achieve. Main thing next is trying to manage the timing with the rotation, so I’m not blocking so many shots left.

Make sure your body is rotating through (belt buckle pointing at target) in finish. That will help you square up the clubface.

My observation of golfers struggling to make good contact is that they: 1) often bend towards the ball at the waist ( rather than / at the hips, which due to cantilever leverage of the arms swings the butt end in closer to to body for a more dynamically balanced path (setting up the need to try to steer club with hands), and 2); do not understand how to ‘side-bend’ back away from the target at the start of the downswing which helps to tuck the trail elbow and shift body mass to anticipate the pull of the club as it swings around the hands. In your demonstration you are side-bending reflexively because that is a very natural action seen when tossing a ball side arm or hitting a forehand shot in tennis. But for some reason unschooled golfers seem to think the spine need the stay straight in the downswing. I show them the difference in club head path coming down and after impact. The side-bend shallows out the club head path and when maintained through impact keeps it low and down the target line after impact as the club force is allowed to pull the trail arm straight. A key factor in making that extension happen, also lacking in the swings of most I see at the range is keeping the trail heel on the ground until the club has time to pull the trail arm straight. Pulling the trail arm straight in the finish works like the arresting wire on the deck of an aircraft carrier TO SLOW THE CLUB HEAD DOWN. It is the side bend created at the start of the downswing which allows the golf to STAY IN BALANCE while doing that. Why don’t unschooled golfers extend properly in the finish and instead release their back foot and swing the club with bent elbows over the shoulder? When I ask them they say that’s how the pros finish their swings. What they don’t realize is that the pros side-bend to some degree in the side bend and allow the force to pull the trail arm straight before the club force first cocks the wrist and flip the club head mass up and left around the body BEFORE the elbows bend.

I actually follow what you say. Do you have a video that exemplifies what you are talking about? Particularly with the “side bend”?
@TeddyCavachon
@TeddyCavachon 3 жыл бұрын
@@austincollins6604 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j56ml7GDmZ66j6c.html I demonstrate the cause and effect of side - bend shallowing path and keeping club head on the line around 5:30. Allowing the club head time to pull the trail arm straight before lifting up the trail foot’s heel is critical to keeping the club head moving down the line. Lifting the heel of the back foot off the ground is what releases the hips from feeling “stuck” when reaching 45° open, ideally just before impact with ball because hips and hands in stopping like that is makes the laws of physics whip the club around the abruptly slowed hands… very much like the action and cause and effect of ‘cracking’ the tip of a leather whip - the crack heard is a mini sonic boom of the tip of the whip breaking the sound barrier (700mph) and how the pros (and me for my age) get such high impact velocities with very little negative impact on balance if sitting back in the stance properly.

Hi Russell, I find this works but if grip pressure is too harsh I top. When I make solid contact the flight is wonderful and powerful. In my opinion it takes trust and structured arms without tension. Also I tend to see some shots pulled.

This last minute uncocking require perfect timing of wrist, hand & arm, waist and chest. Find it easier to do it with 7 iron and above. Longer iron and woods that swing at faster speed, I occasionally hit the ground few inches before the ball. Got to adjust the amount of weight transfer at impact for me to use this technique for longer clubs.

As with most of these tips, this entire action should happen naturally. You should never force your hands / wrists into this position. Loose wrists and tucked right elbow will almost guarantee this happens with no effort from you. 🤷‍♂️ The feel is different for everyone though and can be tough to verbalize.

It's been said everywhere that "feel isn't real". So all you have to do is get the feel of driving the handle into the wall and the "real" will happen. If you're already pureing it then you don't need this instruction. All of these feels are to get the rest of us to that magical place.
