You are bang on with your "advice" to Ancestry. If they had the same tools as MH, I would be able to solve quite a few questions marks in my ancestry.

Thanks for the praise. I do wish more of the tools were on each platform. The largest platform is great, but only if we can move our research forward.

I am afraid that profit margin is more important to Ancestry these days rather than genealogy. They have lost their way IMO.

@@larrymcclain8874 I agree, doing an autocluster etc. should be a no brainer. I understand their issue with privacy and I am glad they are vigilant about it however they could easily mandate that use of the information should be used for one's own information especially in regards to law enforcement and threaten a lawsuit if the police or other company's use it without ancestry's consent AND the consent of the owner of the DNA.

@MissSilencedogood Yes, they do make the privacy claim, and that is commendable, but really now, how many times has privacy been breached with all testing companies? From what I understand, not much at all. And how many multiple millions of DNA tests have occurred from all the testing companies? Sorry, but the privacy argument to me is a scapegoat.

I think watching through your videos has definitely helped. I finally found the missing father for my 2xGGpa, although there is still debate over which of two brothers may be responsible. Definitely agree that Ancestry would be better if they came out with some of these automated tools, and the ability to see with their Chromosome tool, where DNA matches share segments. I did the auto clustering manually on a spreadsheet. Obviously a bit more work. But, where I had known matches, I was able to put a label in the clustering, which showed which ancestors some matches belong to, so then I can see which ancestors are shared by other matches in the clustering.

I am now a Genetic Affairs subscriber thanks to this video. My question - I ran autoKinship on 23andme, but there were no trees for the 2 clusters I was most interested in. Why not? The cluster numbers were just skipped.

It is possible to add a haplogroup obtained from my maternal X chromosome to a decease relative? Sorry new to this currently have samples with 23AndMe and Ancestry. In regards to my spouse he has 4 Indigenous lines (we believe) but neither 23AndMe and Ancestry show done. My question is which additional format is recommended to use for more prospect? Would My Heritage be a more suitable DNA testing to be used

I must have missed if you could use My heritage DNA - I heard you couldn't use Ancestry - As I Would LOVE to be able to use the Genetic Affairs AutoKinship - If I Download my DNA that was Uploaded to Family tree DNA would that work ?

At 36:20 Andy recounts the time he moved the individuals around to make a tighter cluster. Since Genetic Affairs sends an excel file with the html, could you manipulate the spreadsheet (after saving another copy) and an updated html would follow?

I have used spreadsheets to make a tight cluster. But I don't create HTMLs from that rearranged spreadsheet. Does that make sense? If now, leave another comment in a new comment thread for me to answer.

What if all of the 9 trees generated are showing a connection to my grandfather's siblings although I know his siblings had no decendents. Therefore they should be showing my great grandmother's siblings. Can you head this off as you can with known 1c1r genetic distance?

Yes and no. You need to taken a DNA test with 23andMe, MyHeritage or Family Tree DNA. Then you take that match list and follow the steps in the video. If anyone is on the mailing list and have taken DNA tests with those platforms, then they'll appear on the list.

Suppose you are looking for genetic matches from a parent you didn't know about, such as adoption or something else? Would you still want to start with second cousins? Also, I don't get the privacy concerns. I'd love to see a complete explanation of why chromosome browser, dna painter, and autoclusters present a privacy concern.
@FamilyHistoryFanatics
@FamilyHistoryFanatics Жыл бұрын
You want to start with genetic second cousins because they can help you find the identity of the unknown parent. Have you created a Leed's Chart yet?
