It's not just drying - it takes 6 months for the last of the caustic soda to react with enough of the oil that the pH comes down from 12 to 8.

Tip: with any bars of soap buy it and store it away. The longer the storage time the harder the soap becomes. The harder the soap the longer it lasts. Try 6 months / 1 year.

One and only product I use in the shower. Now when I use an industrial gel, my skins feels bad and itchy. What I love the most is the almost non existent smell left on the skin. That way I can use perfume later on or not. I rediscovered my own smell, that’s actually pretty cool. And as a deodorant, I only use argan/sweet almond oil. Alep soap + body oil are the only two that I use to clean and smell nice, apart from occasional perfume. I like it that way: simple and very effective.

My grandmother is from Morocco and she has the skin of a baby! For those who wants to read her secrets; don't overexpose yourself in the sun, uses olive soup (sabon beldi) every week at her local hammam and scrub her body until it becomes shiny and top it of with Ghassoul (Moroccan clay) all over her body and even hair and simply rest in the steam because a calm mind and clean body represents a calm and happy life. I started in my teens with these rituals and I live in Europe. We don't have an cheap hammam here so I go there once in a few months but you can have this Ritual just in the comfort in your shower and I swear by it, it always leaves me amazed by the results ❤

@@MuizzHunzukuz Tell me about it, most store bought cosmetics are full of nasty chemicals that shouldn't be legal in cosmetics. I believe in 2019/2020 it was Notre Dame University that did a first of it's kind extensive study where like 500 of the most commonly purchased makeup products in the USA, both high end and drugstore, were examined and they found more than half were contaminated with carcinogens... My Mom was a chemist for years for the largest cosmetic conglomerates in the world such as Estee Lauder and L'Oreal, which between the two of them they basically own almost every mainstream cosmetic company, and I believe some of these chemicals have been wrecking havoc on my mom and her co-workers health. My mom had two bad strokes in a week and many others that worked in my Mom's lab has had strokes, aneurysms, seizures. There also seems to be high rates of cancer within the employees. These people are always sick or dying. My Mom is so messed up from the strokes neurology wise that she can't work anymore but her husband still does work there... It scares me that the US has such lax regulations about cosmetics because they get absorbed through the skin and certain chemicals while being heated can cause serious damage so it's really dangerous to make them too. The FDA proved they can't be trusted to actually put society's health before their own wallets when they accepted money from the DuPonts to look the other way and lie to us when all the DuPont employees were dying, getting cancer at alarming rates and giving birth to seriously deformed babies with major health issues at their WV Teflon facility, even cows that lived miles around the facility were dying from Teflon chemicals. It's disgusting to think that so much of our tax dollars goes to the FDA to protect society's health yet their greedy asses take bribes from companies to be allowed to knowingly poison us

@@LauraFunFunFloweries it won’t form the big fluffy bubbles because of the properties of the olive oil. A castille or 100% olive oil soap has a tight creamy lather and usually takes a minimum of 6 months to a year to fully cure and be at its best. A 100% coconut oils soap will give big fluffy bubbles that disappear quickly. The best lather (and that is all individual opinion) will usually be formed with a mixture of multiple soft and hard oils and/or butters to get a balanced bar of soap. For me a castille soap can feel almost slimy because it has such a low, creamy lather and a full coconut oil soap can be extremely drying. I formulated my recipe using a mixture of oils and butters that i found through trial and error feels moisturizing but not slimy and gives me big fluffy bubbles, even though the bubbles are not needed to actually clean the skin, as well as gentle enough for my sensitive skin.

I used to buy the nice imported French milled and other triple milled soaps for their beauty as well as the various specialty fragrances. I eventually filled over half the large trunk that I was using as a coffee table/sofa throws and quilts storage. My living room smelled so good, good enough that people would ask what kind of potpourri or other type fragrance I was using. Too, the boxes were beautifully decorative which made nice little ‘thank you’ and birthday gifts on the fly, or just a ‘thinking of you’ happy. I probably had a couple hundred individual bars at any given time. I mostly kept them myself, and the ones with nice designs looked great in a bowl or tray in the bathroom. If someone asked about them I’d give them a few bars to take home to enjoy. I put boxes and wrapped bars in every bureau drawer to lightly scent my clothing, and finally, the room. The rest were put up in linen closets with minimum air flow and constant, even temperatures which in turn maintained the scents and constitution of the bars. I use a Tuscan olive oil soap in my kitchen to wash dishes, minimizing buying plastic containers and a lot of water. Detergents are soap and water - mostly all water. That’s my reason for making a switch to all bar soaps for everything: shampoos, dish soap, laundry uses, etc. My soaps are cured much longer but they all have held up in every regard. My bureau drawers still smell so nice each time I open them and those soaps have lasted ten years and longer. Grocery/walmart/pharmacy soaps are cheaply made. They use so many chemicals in those. There’s just no comparison at price point in the long run, or the feel on skin, and even in the appearance to argue good soaps vs bulk chemical soaps. I’ve bought all kinds of scents, and I have soaps formed in trays of beautiful designs; I love them all. I became a soap junkie. I rarely buy any now since my binge buying days but if I see I’m down to twenty bars or so I’ll know it’s time to restock. Grocery store soaps are more expensive to use and don’t last very long. I only find good soaps in the US from small businesses and those are pricey, and some just aren’t that expensive to make. I know soaps well enough that I know what’s worth the asking price. But there are some really nice handmade soaps from experienced makers, so I might splurge on the odd few bars, though that’s rare. I’m set for a very long time with what I have now. I use every soap scrap til it’s gone, putting the bits in a mesh bag to throw onto the shower mat for a good foot scrub. Thanks for the soapy short. If I could only choose one kind, olive oil soap would be the one. It smells clean, not perfumey, and is naturally rich and emollient. Win-win.
