Hi Danny, liked your video, but I'm a left handed but play golf right handed so throwing with my right hand is alien to me. Is there another drill I can do to get the feeling.

Looking at this video Danny, am I right in saying that when the hands reach the point in the downswing where the club is parallel to the target line, and the right palm is facing up the club is squared by rotating the shoulders and pivoting towards the target line and not by turning the hands?

The killer of any thesis is plagiarism. Taking credit for another’s work is not only unethical it’s cheating. This video is the perfect example of taking another’s work, crediting them for their findings and adding to that body of knowledge with your own findings. From here on I will know you as Dr. Danny. Whether this is the best video you have done is up to debate but it’s the best video for me at this time. Thanks Dr. Danny!

I watched a Martin Chuck video on this before in happened onto this video. This was a game changer for me. I had no power in my swing until I did this. This is how you get compression. My length on my irons changed dramatically, I am hitting my 7 iron 25 yards further.

Danny, I see this as an essential element in the golf swing that is often missing with many amateur golfers including me. When I have seen slow-motion swings of good golfers you can definitely see the elbow leading, and that has been mentioned in so many videos and instructional books. However, there almost appears to be a reluctance to do this for fear of not hitting the ball with any power and so the active, flipping hands come into play, whereas in truth its compression that is required but frequently missing. Great instruction on this element of the swing and most certainly one to continually practise and understand. If we cant do this then we will never strike the ball correctly. Interesting to see the simple body rotation where left heel comes off the ground. Thats much easier for us oldies. Many Thanks, Rich

Danny, I watched this video one time and that was all it took. This is the piece I have been missing. NEVER have I hit this many good shots at the range! I can’t tell you how much this has made my swing repeatable, added consistency AND got me to finally hit down on the ball and compress it! Thank you so much.

Went to the range today and hit 2 large buckets of balls, 180 in total. I worked my way through the bag practicing this technique. I cannot say the change was instant, but it did start coming together. I am picking my irons more cleanly and with longer flights. My woods actually started to go straight and even draw! Normally I never see the left side of the golf course as a right handed player. It is a foreign feeling, tucking in the elbow, but it's definitely making a difference. Thank you so much!!

Danny, being a master of inconsistency in my golf swing, I find I using my feet, which you stress at the end, and my legs, has been a big help in my distance and accuracy. And of course, combined with the timing of the hips and shoulders. My golf was awful yesterday, but reviewing this video and practicing along with it will certainly help me to become less inconsistent. Thanx, Danny.

Speaking of too many chefs in the kitchen, after viewing all the other pros out there on Yutube and thereby thoroughly mucking up the stew (my mind) by the time I get to the practice range, I find myself coming back to your Keep it Simple mantra to correct myself by focusing on my feet and swinging naturally and confidently through the ball. With that simple thought--and keeping a good tempo and smooth swing rhythm--I've found my game swing again. So thanks mate!😁

What a great point about the elbow lead and rotate the forearm to square position - very helpful. I do use body rotation to hit, but can leave the elbow a bit back and then get the power pull with the right shoulder coming forward and bringing the club across the body through impact..

I stumbled on Chris Ryan's video on this subject a couple of weeks back and have to say it turned out to be the main piece of the jigsaw puzzle that was still missing from my golf swing. Thanks to the content such as Chris's, Danny's and many other creators on YT, I've put in place so many pieces of the puzzle over the last 2 years since I've been playing but got to a point recently where most of my shots, irons in particular, felt good, but were drawing or even hooking inexplicably to the left. This trail arm advice has been a breakthrough for me and has opened up new paths to improve my performance.

Finally! A clear explanation of golf swing wrist action! I kept hearing about "supination" and "release" and other nebulous terms that caused me to break the downswing into too many moving parts, which caused me to totally lose direction and power on the course. All I needed to know was the proper position of the right wrist at impact combined with proper hip movement. Thank you, again, Danny, for keeping it simple!

This is so helpful for me now Danny because I actually just discovered about my right arm facing outward a few weeks back by accident and i was able to chip the balls around the green much easier and very accurate too 😃. Then i started using it hitting range balls and i was able to make better impact with great ball flights most of the time. Now it really makes a lot of sense after watching your clip here. I will definitely keep doing this drill daily. Thank you so much for this great info Danny. Cannot wait to see what you have in store for us on your future clips 😃👌👍👍

I usually practice A LOT, often at home in my entrance halI. Yesterday I had a terrible round and I wondered if my training really added anything of value to become a better golfer. For some reason when opening the web this morning this instruction was on my screen without looking. I practiced along and went out to the training field just with my PW. And it all fell into place after some 10 minutes. I realised that this practice, in a sense a bit untraditional, seems to be one of the most important instructions you have ever shared. It really helped getting a feel for the basic swing. I am a previous "upper body" golfer due to a severe left knee injury, practicing now to become a "lower body golfer" and found that this move didnt hurt at all. A thing I experienced though was that it is a large step between step 2 and 3, and I found out that just adding a step between where I turned the club shaft holding the club face and swinging before swinging ordinary helped to bridge into step 3. Thanks a lot Danny for sharing all your expertise with us and always in such a pedagogic way!

Great video Danny. I have the same issue of trying to keep the trail arm in a comfortable and natural position that results in very limited power. Have to try to get used to this feeling of keeping your trail elbow close to your body. Most low handicappers who can compress the ball are able to do what you described in this video. Also, for the sake of us left handed golfers, it would be nice if you and other golf instructors can use the terminology, trail and lead foot or arm. This way we don't need to reverse left and right, when following instructions. Thanks.

Awesome video Danny! This is something I have been focusing on in my at home drills in the back yard....keeping the trail arm in position for better ball striking AND accuracy (no slices, no hooks). Your video has added the missing tabs to make this a complete exercise and fully repeatable motion. That is it the key - make it repeatable with a 3:1 tempo. Thanks again for your work on providing practical golf lessons.

Danny- You often mention that a new move or position can feel a bit strange to the golf student. As a former college basketball coach, I encountered the same reaction from my players when working with them on a new move or position in their shooting form. They would say something like, " Man, that feels weird!" And my response to them would be, "Well, it certainly feels different BUT, more importantly, it is the feeling of CORRECT! Though incorrect, your current form is quite COMFORTABLE. Its wrong but it feels comfortable. With enough CORRECT REPETITIONS, the new move or position will become your new comfortable." --Doug Schakel

Hi Danny. Thanks for this. I've been golfing for a zillion years and slicing and pulling for all of that time. I'm gradually getting better and the (current) key for me is to quieten down my wrists. I know how it feels on the backswing to not cock my wrists but continue to struggle on the downswing to stop flicking at the ball. This video was very interesting and relevant for me - in particular the spear exercise. Early days but after a trip down the driving range, I can feel the difference. Going to keep working on this but thanks for giving me hope and a practical way forward.

Hi Danny. I agree with all that you are saying as being the effects of a great golf swing; but recently at age 73 I am keeping things very simple for myself. My backswing is simply a 2 and 1/2 inch pull back of the muscles of my trail scapula towards my spine as Alison Thietje taught 20 years ago and my downswing is simply a pushing of my upper trail arm against my trail rib cage all the way to the finish of my swing. All the pieces in my upper and lower body simply falls into place as my ball simply gets in the way of my swing. Hope you look her up. Cheers

I saw that Chris Ryan video and immediately recognized where you were going. What you added was "rock the baby" and "spear motion" which I think are great. These are consistent with your video on chipping where you used the feeling of loosening and tightening a jar top. I use that thought many times when taking practice swings just before exeuting the chip shot Great symbolism.

I’m two years late on this, but I’m laughing hysterically because I saw the same Chris Ryan video a few days ago before seeing this one - just like your father. This video just popped on my timeline so it’s a funny coincidence that my experience was similar to your Dad’s. This is a great complementary video to Chris’s as seeing you do the “pivot” finally made the light bulb go off. I also like the “rock the baby” and “spearing” drills to get the sensation of what the feels like. Great video!

This trail arm vidio is great imformation.on how the trail arm needs to be positioned so you don't flip your hands over until way after impact. I always got my elbow and arm in this positon but did not hold it in this position long enough and my hands where doing the flip overway too soon causing all kinds of problems. Thanks very much for sharing such a great lesson.

Great exercises and explanation as always Danny - just knowing where the trail arm should be and why and then how it activates the other muscles was a revelation and is going to transform my game - will be putting that into practice tomorrow morning!

It was great thanks Danny - I play off 10 and had 2 points after 3 holes so took a bit of adjusting to - then finished up with 35 points in very windy and tricky conditions - ball striking just got better and better - need to work out my patterns especially the irons which I was drawing rather than fading but hit a lot of fairways and greens and left a few out there - range time this week and see what next weekend brings - thanks again a really great drill!!

Hello Danny I think this lesson has transformed my game totally. I have been so worried about swaying that I have gone the total opposite and just trying to stick the feet to the ground and resist any movement. I was so worried the “ rock the baby” motion would cause my swaying but it didn’t and I was still able to remain fairly centred but amazing the dynamic lower body allowed me to maintain the right arm compression through impact - I couldn’t believe it. I was trying all sorts of way to do it in the past eg trying to keep a flat left wrist at impact . Now I finally realize if the lower body/ legs doesn’t work the hands and arms will just take over. I just now need to persevere with “ rocking the baby”. Thank you so much 🙏🙏

Brilliant this. Was practicing it today. Must admit I have seen it before but I just went back to old ways. 100 balls today really working on it quality rather quantity. Nothing bigger than a 6i and was actually hitting it well. Big difference to wedge flight😉👍

Best video yet. I’ve struggled with transferring my weight on the downswing, hitting the ball rather than swinging the club. Tried this today at the range with some success. Looking forward to taking it to the course tomorrow.

Another great demonstration and instructional coaching, keeping the legs alive really works for me I think a lot of us seniors use more of the arms to generate power rather than the wrist compression as you illustrate.maybe this is why we lose the power in the last few holes in the round .great stuff you are the people’s coach in golf beers up Danny.

My years of trying to be "quiet" and have a "still head" have absolutely led to my legs going to sleep, and having all of those issues you point out. Clubface is lazy, lack of "hit" and compression. This is a great tip.

Such a NICE video! Nice isn’t the perfect word but it encompasses the gist of what I want to express. Danny you are rock star teacher. So easy to listen to and making things simple without talking down to anyone. Just totally supportive and it’s clear you want to help people. In my case, I have long felt that I’m on the precipice of figuring some important things out but there are probably just some little things missing. I feel that you help me find those little things. Thank you for the content of your channel! I like Chris Ryan too but I think your dad would be wise to pay more attention to your videos! 😂

Our Pro got me to do this last week and it felt a bit strange at first but the results have been striking. The shank has been my nemesis for years and this trail arm position has got me feeling that I'm never going to hit another one. If anything my contact has been a bit out of the toe. Anyway six birdies in two weeks for a 13 handicap doesn't lie.
