A really thoughtful comment from Norbert on Patreon inspired this video - what about when you're looking for guitar as a way to relax, calm down, maybe even meditate (sort of) - is there a way to practice that promotes this more calm state?

You need to put something out Friday to remind me to become a patreon. It wants to take payment today for two days and then payment on September 1st. Hopefully I'll remember to go through the tab then! Love your lesson stuff BTW.

Love this man! Always get a lot of value from these kind of lessons as a kind of study exercise, and as a thing to throw into solos when the confidence grows! 🤘🤘

A great horn player once told me to think “el-e-phant” for triplets and “hip-o-pot-o-mus” for quintuplets. He was an animal, like you…no pun intended. Thanks for showing off these kind of licks from your repertoire. Edit: I now realize you are doing quarter notes in the examples. But the animal phrasing can still work well.

I love seeing you explaining stuff in your tutorials. I t always seems to be the sort of vibe that I was trying to track down in my own playing when it popped up during improvising, and I also know, when I've been trying to show a beginner a few basic things on guitar, that one learns a great deal by teaching (eg, what it actually is doing behind an unconscious technique), and so everyone gains from the free exchange of ideas. Thank you.

Great tips. As you Slowed it down, in the beginning, it’s very similar to the scale in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Thanks for all you do John! Your lessons are so unique and always help to see guitar in a new way. Could you do a lesson/podgo for the style of Jakub Zytecki?

Beautiful cascading Pentatonics. I hope you have a chance to go more in depth about your picking direction decisions and legato on these, when your camera batteries are working properly. Thanks

I love these exercises that merge two pentatonic positions, it really makes your brain work! Just one thing though, I see that these are merging the 1st position of the major pentatonic with the 2nd position of the major pentatonic. If that's the case, I think the 12th note - where it goes from 7 to 9 - should instead be from the 7th fret to the 10th fret, since there is no G# in the 2nd major pentatonic position. Although playing the G# on the 9th fret of the B string would still be diatonic and sound good, it's not the note you'd want to play if the goal is drilling pentatonics. I know you're fully aware of all this John, just wanted to point this out to any folks that may be practicing this so they can make a note to change that if they want to focus purely on the pentatonics. Appreciate the exercise, I'll be working on this for weeks!

I just became a patron after watching this and about your last 50 vids in the last 6 months. I’ll be charged again on September the 1st which makes me more of a dickhead than your camera…. But it’s worth it. Keep up the great content. Thanks

Great lesson John! But I was wondering, with stretches like these, do you have any advice for playing this lick without hurting your hand?

Nice pattern, thanks for sharing! Why do you sometimes use the Major 7th instead of the root (G# instead of A) though? Which isn't in the major pentatonic.

@@CrankyAlexanderOfficial yep, does sound cool. My point being: its not pentatonic as the video title suggests and this is never mentioned in the video.
