I liked "Lies" the very best, but it wasn't their biggest hit. It was, though, the first release that "put them on the map". To continue with SO VERY 80's try "Whirly Girl" by OXO, and "Poison Arrow" by ABC. And without a doubt, do "Words" by Missing Persons. See where Lady Gaga got her ideas.

The trio is named after characters in a Belgian comic strip (translated into many languages) called "The Adventures of Tintin," about a young cub reporter named Tintin and his dog Snowy. The identical-looking, bumbling, moustachioed policemen are the Thompson Twins. You might also enjoy the band's hit song "Doctor, Doctor."

The Thompson Twins are neither named "Thompson," nor are they twins. They're three very talented musicians who were HUGE in the late 70s and through the 80s. Just about any song of theirs you could pick is terrific. Their song "If You Were Here" was featured in the soundtrack to the 80s teen flick SIXTEEN CANDLES.

Not really sure about that. This kind of music in the 80s was fairly similar to the american idol stuff. There were for sure some amazing and unique and talented artists in the 80s. But there was also an endless parade of bands putting out top 40 pop garbage with no real substance to it that all sounded relatively the same. It's way worse now for certain. But I think to say there was none of it in the 80s is somewhat delusional.

@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Not sure where you got the idea that I'm saying today's music is better. It's not. Thompson Twins were a favorite band of mine in the 80's. I got to see them in a small club in Columbus when In the Name of Love first came out. After the show a friend of mine knew the promoter and we took them out to a local club. When the club closed, we went to an all night restaurant for falafels. They were heading to California and were booked to go on American Bandstand. We had to tell them it was like Top of the Pops in England. I remember they were really nice, down to earth people. I remember asking them who they listened to and they mentioned David Bowie, U2, and Thomas Dolby. For further listening I'd suggest In the Name of Love, Lies, Love On Your Side, and The Gap. Great band!!!

Thompson Twins were hot in the 80s. I was a music video junkie and loved not only their songs but also their videos. 80s were so great for music and videos. Great memories 💯❣

The cool thing about the 80s was that pretty much anything was worth listening to. Music, fashion, and attitude was coming at you so fast that it made your head spin. And it was very inclusive. I can remember exactly where I was at that time in my life when this song came out.

i admire you guys! you have three small children, you work and jay has his sports events these days, and you still manage to upload three videos everyday. I love your reactions, you always bring joy and also sweet and cool vibes. you make my day trully. if you want to go deep into this kind of 80s hit, i recomend a small list of songs i know you will wnjoy very much: - depeche mode "people are people" - bronski beat "smalltown boy" - falco "der kommissar" - eurythmics "here comes the rain again" - yazoo "don't go" - the bolshoi "sunday morning"

Thompson Twins were a British pop band that formed in April 1977 Initially they were a new wave group, which is why there may be some confusion on their sound....they are definitely a mix of a few genres, and I absolutely adored them!!! It is hard to believe they were all so poor at one time, that they were actually squatters, and couch hoppers, for quite some time! they had top hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world.

Many of these great 80s hits also have extended 12 inch versions which just makes it more enjoyable to listen to. This brings out so many good ememories of the 80s. I used to listening to this often on my Walkman and wearing out the batteries. Lol. Please react to some early Simple Minds. New Gold Dream is my favorite album of theirs. 81, 82, 83, 84 and Promised you a Miracle is a must listen.

If there is any song that can take me back to being 15 in the 80s, it's this one. Amazing music and some of the most quotable lyrics - A heck of a lot of people used quotes from this song in their high school yearbooks back then.

In the 80s I DJ'd for a high school Valentines Dance in the Upper Midwest. There were two separate distinct groups of teenage clique groups that refused to get along and they hated each other's music. You had the mainstream suburban Top 40 music mall kids who listened to Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Cyndi Lauper, with their brightly colored clothes and big hair, and they would slow dance cheek to cheek and ear to ear in loving embrace. Then there were the tough urban punk rock and goth kids who listened to The Cure, The Smiths. Husker Du, Violent Femmes, and Black Flag wearing dark subdued funeral clothes, face paint, and would aggressively slam dance into each other. The two sides hated each other and refused to share the same dance floor with each other. The Punks thought the mainstream kids were uncool and the mainstream kids thought the punks were anti social, dangerous, and unruly. So the adult chaperone school teachers and school officials monitoring the dance approached me in desperation since I was the DJ and asked me to please do something about this horrible situation. I told them that I've got this matter under control. So I thought of odd artistically cool alternative bands that have recently put out pop songs like Talking Heads, Eurythmics, Simple Minds, U2, and many others that both groups of kids could equally relate to. And the first cool Top 40 mainstream pop band that came to mind was The Thompson Twins! Y'all. I'm telling you! The second I put the needle on the Thompson Twins record, I saw the bleachers emptying out from both separate sides of the gym floor and walls of people coming to the dance floor all at once from both sides to all celebrate as one united school and dance together in celebration. Once I had them all on the floor dancing together, I kept them there for most of the dance while brainstorming of other cool artists that the goths like who may have put out Top 40 songs that the mainstream mall kids would recognize. I kept brainstorming and stacking my record choices higher and higher on the table with enough songs to get through the entire dance that satisfied both sides equally while politely turning down requests for more Madonna or more Sex Pistols. I kept it right down the middle and the chaperone teachers raced over to me and gave me hugs and couldn't understand how I did it. I said, Don't thank me....Thank The Thompson Twins! 😊😊❤😊😊

I was in love with this group as a toddler. I remember dancing very badly whenever they came on the radio. "You take me up" was, and still is, my favourite. "Doctor Doctor" is a close runner up. By the time I was 4 I had a big crush on the lead singer 😊 Around the same time I remember Howard Jones too. He's definitely one to look up

I had forgotten about this song, I grew up in the 80s and 90s but primarily was a metalhead and a massive 60s fan. I am very happy to have come across your channel, as Amber said, now I am (a lot) older I appreciate songs that I grew up with even more now, this one is one of those! I love Jays reactions and that he has gone on this incredible journey and is open to all genres and types of music and artists - made me realise how many artists I know but never really appreciated them having grown up through the 70s and 80s in the UK and Amber - WOW your ability to "get" songs and hone in on lyrics when you hear them for the first time, very special talent. I also love the comments from your amazing contributors as I have learnt so much from them. Keep up the fantastic work and look after yourselves and your loved ones. Apologies for rambling on but I have gone down the Rob Squad Reactions "rabbit hole" :)
