The first arc of season 6 of the Clone Wars (which I think is named Order 66) is my favorite arc in the entire show. It zooms in to a personal war being fought by Arc Trooper Fives as he attempts to discover the mystery of the inhibitor chips that are in the heads of every clone. It's a beautiful, tragic story that ties together two of the main themes of the show in a wonderful way.

I love so much that Fives' sacrifice let Rex and Ahsoka survive Order 66. That in turn saves hundreds or even thousands of more lives across the galaxy; Rex gets to remove the chips from the Bad Batch, who go on to help more people. Ahsoka joins the Rebellion, rescuing Kanan and Ezra multiple times who then free Lothal (not to mention whatever she's gonna do in her own show!) All those dominos fittingly falling from the single action of the last member of Domino Squad. (Besides Echo, but we thought he was dead at the time...)

If you play the mobile game, star wars galaxy of heroes, a turned based rpg thing, the way Fives works is really poetic. He's a tank, and he taunts taking the hits to keep the rest of the team safe, but also if another clone trooper is defeated they're instead revived at 100% health and Fives will die instead. Literally how it worked in the show.

Fives was my favorite clone from the first episode he was introduced. Watching him die was heartbreaking. My little brother watched the show long after I did but he still came into my room after that arch with tear filled eyes, all he said was “Fives” and I knew exactly what he meant. It’s truly a perfect piece of storytelling in one of the most perfect shows of all time.

Fives was such a beautifully written character, definitely one of my favorites, and even seeing glimpses of this arc breaks my heart because all he wanted was to protect his brothers and the Jedi he served with. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to discover order 66 and realize you’ll lose what little identity you have and cannot fight against it, no matter how much you try. I wish current writers would make more characters like him.

Another fabulous video! I totally get this being a favourite but oh man I find it gut-wrenching to watch. Similar to the dread in the penultimate episode of S7 knowing what's coming and being terrified for the character's in the moment. It's a brilliant arc, but my favourite has to go back to my favourite episode from S1, Rookies with Clone Cadets and ARC Troopers. I just love the growth you see amongst that band of brothers. Props to you for the sneaky Jesus and Stalin quotes!

A lot of people, particularly Legends fans, dislike the additional of the inhibitor chips in Clone Wars, and prefer the original story where the clones knew from the start what they would have to do. But honestly, I think both stories are equally amazing. The story of the original Battlefront 2 game was told wonderfully, and watching the nameless clone narrator struggle with the future that he knew was coming was way too good for a 3-hour singleplayer campaign in a multiplayer game. But just as much, it's beautiful and tragic to watch the clones be _forced_ to turn on their Jedi generals, and Bad Batch has only increased that tragedy even more as we've gotten to see that they remember everything they did and now they have to live with it. Star Wars has really fallen off lately, but when it's good, it is REALLY good.

Seriously, you rocked this video (and now I'm off to listen to the Katara and Toph one tomorrow!). Thanks for the beautiful insights! P.S. A fave CW arc would have to be the Water Wars undersea arc. Great analysis, love how you tied it in with Band of Brothers. Fives's final arc and the Umbara arc are the hardest to watch for me, and with good reason, it's the show at its best. You're right, because they approached the story through the plight of individuals instead of the entire galaxy, knowing that Order 66 will happen doesn't dull the tension. If anything, knowing that even fate itself is stacked against Fives ramps the tension up because we're worried about HIM, not the galaxy. It's kind of a shame that the show didn't give us more clone-centric episodes like this. Even Bad Batch, IMO, doesn't show what the Empire is doing to the clones at an individual level as often as it could. Oh well, that's what analyses like these are for, I guess.

Anytime it became clear the arc was centered around the clones, I got excited haha. Absolutely love stories that dive into the troopers and their struggles. If you haven't, I highly recommend reading the Republic Commando books that were part of the EU canon before Disney came along with their $4 billion axe. One of my favorite arcs in fictional stories is not from Star Wars but from the Halo Legends series. Halo also has a lot of noble sacrificial UNSC military service men, something like the GAR in Star wars. Among these sacrificial characters is UNSC Sergeant Ghost. A man who held no emotion in the face of battle and death even among the UNSC Marines under his leadership. His first battle engagements against the covenant lead to his whole squad being wiped out while he remains undeterred from the loss of life. His character development would evolve later in another mission against the covenant with UNSC hardware marines fighting a losing battle. Sgt. Ghost whole story is what did it mean to Be Human? To command orders and ignore the loss of life while you stand without any sign of emotion? Before Sgt. Ghost was assigned to a new platoon. One of the wounded and dying marines under his command asked him what it meant to be human. Why did he care now that she was dying and what did she and her teammates' lives matter to Sgt.Ghost now? This character arc improves later on as Sgt. Ghost found that to be human against an alien race that showed no remorse in killing them, Glassing the planet was something he had. His dying marine asked him could he Be Human just for Once? Sgt. Ghost saw in life that he had to be a leader that put lives above his cold nature. That the UNSC’s War and the lives of humanity meant something to protect and win. It is a short story of a Sergeant in the UNSC who saw that saving lives was worth dying for. His last act to be human was to self-destruct a highly advanced prototype suit giving the Hardware marines time to escape Algolis

This arc was the key evidence against the argument that you always hear when people watch Clone Wars. "Well, we know what's going to happen because of Revenge of the Sith so there's no real stakes." This arc only has the tension it does BECAUSE we know what's going to happen. We know Fives isn't going to get the message out. And since he is a character that would die for his beliefs, we're fairly certain he's not long for this world

One arc that is always overlooked was the Boba Fett arc from season 2 we see a kid hell bent on revenge against the man who killed his father have personal conflict within himself on how he and his fellow bounty hunters go about doing it. You see his struggle and his pain along with the hypocrisy of the Jedi and more closely Mace Windu. I wish that Arc was highlighted more than it was. Plus Plo Koon was pretty good in this episode and it was great to see Hondo’s parenting and remorse he had for Boba.

I love this arc really some of the best star wars, but in the siege of mandalore arc Ahsoka should have been saved by cap Rex, the fact that she saved him and removed his chip makes fives sacrifice mining less and makes her really over powerd in that arc. Not only is she smart enough to figure out how to save Rex, she can also hold off an entire company of clones, which also makes them look incompetent. Rex should have thrusted fives and removed the chip himself then helped Ahsoka survive order 66.

There is one thing I dislike about Thops and Fives' story arc, and it's the cop out the writers have established to reuse Clone characters after The Clone Wars. Yes, people love Rex, maybe people also like the Bad Batch, to be fair, I have no idea as I have never watched neither Rebels nor Bad Batch, and even TCW i've only watched sparingly. Part of the tragedy of the clones is the ineluctable end to their service after the establishment of the Empire. The timer is set, and there's nothing they can do about it, their struggle for identity, their brotherhood, their friendships with the jedi... All of that is pointless in the end and we knew it from the start. Letting us get close to the clones only reinforces their inevitable downfall and makes it much more impactful when it finally happens (something the films never even bothered to try mind you). Thops should have been the sole anomaly, a glimmer of hope due to a failure in the system, a failure that would have reinforced the engagement of the audience towards the clones even more before the finale. Instead, we have X numbers of clones who continue to exist in between the Prequels and the OT because Disney simply couldn't let go of Rex and even doubled down on the concept to try and replicate his success, thus diminishing the impact of Order 66 in the process because we can arbitrarely choose clones who escaped it.

I find it ironic that this youtuber praises the clones for having "meaningful character arcs" but literally all of them are static caricatures that have their "quirky personalities" from the very beginning. I always questioned why I never cried or was even sad in the end of this arc as a kid and really, its just because the clone characters arent real characters. Theyre action figures.
