So many singers like Jonathon Young get overlooked because it's presumed all they do is scream. It takes training and and a LOT of it to be able to do what he does without shredding the vocal cords. So nice to see you appreciate his talent. :)

I watched his discography from beginning to end, and you can clearly see the transitions in his confidence and skill as he mastered the new techniques. He works so hard, and not only sings, but plays his own instruments, does the arrangements, filmed and edited his own videos and audio, writes music and lyrics, produces his music, writes and produces for other artists, and he's such a sweet, considerate, and generous person. Add his complete dive into the world of super-nerd, he's pretty much a super hero, more talent in a strand of hair than most mainstream, label-signed artists have.

Let's be honest - every song Jonathan has put out is worth checking out, I haven't heard a bad song from him, even when he was trying to do a bad job like in Barbie Girl. But where he really shines is in his original music, which sadly doesn't get near enough attention.

Based on your reaction I suggest his cover of "Hellfire" also from Hunchback. He also did a version of "Valhalla Calling" last year. But I also suggest, if you haven't checked him out yet, giving the original artist for that song a look as well. "Miracle of Sound" is the artist and he is incredible. If you're a gamer he'll likely have a song based on a game you have played.

@TeahVickery
@TeahVickery Жыл бұрын
Jonathan's older covers are more rock/punk, much less metal screaming. Some favourites are Here I Am, Every Time We Touch, Eye to Eye, Unravel, Pokemon Theme...at the beginning of his career, he felt really pushed to sing higher than he would naturally, bass voices were still considered to be less desirable in the music industry, and he also hadn't yet mastered the proper techniques to sing/scream safely, so they're easier on the ears if you aren't a fan of the hardcore metal sound. He talks a bit about the struggles he faced as a bass singer in a subharmonics seminar he did with Bobby Bass. I think it's sad that such beautiful voices weren't valued or encouraged, but I'm glad that now they're getting their time to shine.

His discography is astounding! I listened to it start to finish over a week while at work, and I was amazed at how incredible each and every song was. Even the ones he tried to do poorly, like Barbie Girl, were still great. It boggles my mind that he is not a mega star, because he has so much talent in so many aspects of the music industry - singing, arrangements, plays dozens of instruments, filming, editing videos and audio, writing music and lyrics, producing music - but only 2 million subscribers? That's a crime.
@hpau87
@hpau87 Жыл бұрын
@@TeahVickery I AGREE he is so underrated. I personally love his Barbie Girl cover, solely because of the “please kill me now” look he has through the ENTIRE thing. In all seriousness though, he is an amazing musician who can not only sing, but also play all his own instruments and do his own arrangements. Like, I’d be impressed enough if he did one of those things as well as he does, let alone all of them
@TeahVickery
@TeahVickery Жыл бұрын
@@hpau87 I worry in his later covers, where so many "fans" were requesting covers of song just because they knew he would hate the song, and you could see he was miserable, just pumping out whatever the fans asked for, but it was just a paycheck for him. Since Starship Velociraptor came out and he's started his sea shanties, plus his Metal Hellsinger gig, and sponsorship with Magic the Gathering, the spark has come back, and it makes my heart near ready to burst, because he is just such a lovely human being.
@hpau87
@hpau87 Жыл бұрын
@@TeahVickery yep, he definitely seems much happier since he stopped doing requested covers. Although I did enjoy his covers (he did so many but somehow they were all SO GOOD) his originals are absolute bangers as well. So I am very happy he’s doing something he loves now
@TeahVickery
@TeahVickery Жыл бұрын
@@hpau87 He's still doing covers last I heard, aiming for one a week, because that's what pays his bills, but yes, his original music is where his heart is and it shows. I'm happy seeing him happy, and he's extremely excited for this tour he's doing with Caleb, and he's like a proud dad helping Caleb with his new album, it's sweet to see. If you haven't heard Caleb's song Darkness Before the Dawn, it's incredible, I immediately fell in love, it shows a different side to Caleb.

Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite Disney for its sountrack. The music was simply stunning and really underrated. I'd not heard these artists before - it was fun to react with you. They were both very expressive. The voice/narrator in this was supposed to be Clopin - the leader of the Gypsies - and Jonathan Young brings out his mischievous and slightly sinister character well. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with Hellfire.

He covers such a range of songs as well as writing his own - of his originals I love "Wolf Within" (with Caleb), "Old Money" (Vampire jazz! Also with Caleb) and "Nails and Kneecaps" (more jazz with Annapantsu) I'd also suggest "Centuries" with the Bass Gang, "Let It Go" from "Frozen", "Evermore" from "Beauty And The Beast", his covers from "Phantom Of The Opera" with Malinda, "Every Time We Touch", "my Heart Will Go On", "Fly Me To The Moon"...... oh there are so many!! On to Centuries by The Bass Gang, featuring Jonathan Young, followed by Yellow flicker beat by The Bass Gang, featuring Colm McGuinness, then Bones by The Bass Gang, on to Hide and seek by The Bass Gang, featuring Lauren Paley. From there we jump to Voiceplay, who also did Hide and seek, also featuring Lauren Paley, and then you're free to do the Sea Shanties with each of these artists/groups. 😊❤ Oh, and you need to watch Colm McGuinness doing Brave and How to train your dragon. Why I don't see any recommendation of rain of castamere, with Peter Hollens? It's an amazing cover!

Listen to all his stuff. Also give a listen to Dan Vasc, Colm Mcguiness, and Peyton Parrish.

If this song make you this melted, you're not ready at all for Hellfire. As warning, if you'll react to it, keep in your mind that it will not be a priest who will sing. It'll be a real demon.

You are giving the same exact reaction that I did when i first heard this. I'm only up to 3:19 in your video so far; i just HAD to pause to say that. It's like your ears are having an orgasm!
