Brilliant Never knew how important relationship of weight of club shaft on the knuckle of trail index finger at the top of the backswing was to staying on plane and achieving a proper back swing position. I can imagine that the pressure point on the trail knuckle is only exacerbated during the tranisitioon which shallows the club even more than at the top of the back swing.

I have started practicing at the range hitting the ball with my right hands forefinger and thumb OFF the grip. Being a right sided golfer, this is my lower hand. I was amazed how the club dropped inside easily, so pressure I was putting on the forefinger and thumb seemed to pre-cast the club……weird at first but it works

If I'm not careful or aware, as I pull from the left side, my elbows actually separate and because my hands are connected, grabbing the club, the right elbow will turn over and move up a bit and cause the club to tilt instead of staying on plane. I have to make sure my right elbow is keeping up with the left arm/elbow.

I've heard teachers say the right hand stays basically passive and the glove hand should control the club. Others have said the right hand should be more dominant like throwing a baseball sidearm. Then I've heard some say that both hands should work together. This is why so many are confused with the golf swing imo. Seems like every instructor has something different to say about the hands so it's just confusing to amateurs.

Club pros basically know nothing about the swing. If you want lessons, you need to go to a top coach or teach yourself by learning the correct concepts. It’s really big that hard.

Did Hogan shallow the club rather than bring it back on his ‘plane of glass’?

All I have to say is that Hogans swing was unique to him. He owned his swing. I’m not a pro, but be careful about adopting one particular part of his swing without adopting everything about his swing. Hogan had a flat swing, therefore it needed to be a fast. The more flat the heavier the club will be and therefore harder to control. Hogan was a GREAT player….no doubt, so was Moe Norman….I just think that if you want to use these people as examples you need to talk about the entire swing. Their swings flowed from one part to the other effortlessly and it’s hard to say do this one thing here and this one thing there in your own swing because they did other things to compensate for that ONE aspect that you’re talking about. You want to check out a good book??? Brandel chamblees book ‘the anatomy of greatness’. There’s a good book to read. I can’t stand Brandel and I don’t agree with all the statements he makes in the book, but it’s worth getting and reading. About 20 times like I have. You will pick up all sorts of nuggets insight every time you read it. Good luck!! RH has also helped tremendously too. Lol.
