I've been wanting to try out some older bikes for a while now, and this year I figure is the time to have some fun with this! I don't have sponsorship obligations, which is nice, because I always like to be more free. I credit my Patrons for giving me the opportunity to do this, because they keep me free and funded to do fun projects like this!
HUGE thanks to all my PATRONS who take this channel farther! Enjoy more content:
/ jordanboostmaster
I hope you like it, I put a lot of work into this video! And I am so stoked to have this Norco A-line that I dreamed about back in the day! It's a heavy bike and I could really feel it haha! Also those skinny handlebars were interesting! I would love to make this into some kind of series where I do upgrades and see how well I can shred with an older bike like this!
Thanks Brendan for the DSLR Footage!

Damn I still have a pair of these, a pair of the totally crappy Ditch Witches and a pair of Double Tracks complete with the original Holy Rollers with the dice on them in my garage in almost mint condition! Also a mint pair of the amazing looking completely red DT Swiss E2200 with the „RIDE FREE“ slogan on them! They look so sick on my blue/white 08 Kona Stuff with red grips and red pedals! I still love using that vintage bike as a do it all Trail Hardtail (I went two sizes up on the frame so it works surprisingly good, keeping in mind it was somewhat designed as a Dirtjump frame)! I have a Coil Pike U-Turn on it which lets me infinitly adjust the travel between 95-150mm(stock was up to 140mm, but with some work on the internals I got ten extra mil out of them). I just love these „vintage“ bikes of my youth so much and plan on getting a full suspension too! Maybe a Rocky Mountain RMX(7/9), Santa Cruz V10 or a Kona Stab/Stinky. These where the legends of my youth and of course far outside of my reach back then.

its so interesting how the older DH bikes just simply didn't care about weight at all. either the manufacturers didn't care or didn't have the technology to make the bikes lighter. it really puts into perspective that a DH bike nowadays can weigh as little at 32 pounds. what a difference time has made

so you are basically making back end lower, losing some suspension travel, to get more slack front ? I found that just removing too much preload on the back I was too low, couldnt pedal without any angle without hitting the ground. wasnt worth the tiny difference in head angle have you tried angled headset too ? and did it really make a difference ? my head angle is 68, shorter stem 100mm > 40mm definitely felt more comfortable downhill
@charlieroberts3171
@charlieroberts3171 3 жыл бұрын
@@geemy9675 i havent tried angleset yet but i will be soon, i want to get my head angle to around 63°. Offset bushings dont remove suspension travel as your not changing the stroke length of your shock My head angle was 66° and is 64.5° with the bushings, i didnt really feel much of a difference on the flats/mellow up/down hills but felt a massive difference on the steep fast down hills- gave me a big confidence boost. However it did make my bike less agile but i can get used to that Ive got high rise bars and a 40mm stem and the reach feels pretty dialed. I think my BB dropped about 16mm- havent smacked my bash guard yet so ive been lucky😅 When my front and rear bottom out im left with about 150mm of room between the bb and ground. Not much but im be able to get away with it with all the trails near me

Hey Jordan, you mentioned that the bottom bracket height was a bit high for you, but this is a feature by design (sorry if someone has already mentioned this) and it is for rolling over rock. The Norco Shore series of frames advertised this as a new feature to give your bottom bracket and chainrings some extra clearance and maybe Norco kept it in the Park series frames as well? It's funny that you mentioned the bar length because I remember when the north shore was just up and coming, (while Ryan Leech was the face for Norco) and this style of riding was what everybody wanted, but from this, riders used shorter bar lengths to get through trees because single track was narrow and lines were built in very precarious places where long bars would catch - I bet if you watch the trees as you fly by them on some of the older lines, you will see gouges taken out of trees through the tight areas because bars were too long. Wow, that was step back into 2000s - thanks for the journey! Also, if you want to really dig out some nostalgia, put a 24in wheel on the back of that aline and sender for all of us oldtimers.

I still ride this norco frame but from 2006. The suspesion isn't good enough to ride downhill trails but if you are doing very huge gaps or jumps this bike is like sofa. Definitely the best bike i ever had

Nice to see how bikes have changed over time! It's cool to see how many mods you can do with them to make them perform better and to become cooler bikes in general :) Hope you can get a hold of that bigger size frame someday soon :) Cool video

This is so awesome! I used to want the Big Hit 2 when I was a kid. Now I’m shredding with a Trek. These old school bikes really kick it differently though. That derailleur hit man, I really felt it even before the exclamation mark! I guess it’s just a reflex now

That’s cool. I used to work at a shop and also raced DH in the 90s. Had a specialized S works USA built, extruded frame FSR-DH (think Shawn Palmer). Built it with Hayes disc brakes and Marzocchi Bomber and a set of Junior T for the DH stuff (back when everyone else was runny crappy elastomer based Manitou or unreliable air spring based Boxxers). Had a fox piggyback coil over rear shock. The bike had an “amazing” 4-6” of travel rear and like 5 1/2 front. I kept the bike and put newer wider bars (like the eastons in this video) newer front fox fork and newer Hayes brakes (similar to one on this video), got an adjustable rear linkage to get a little more travel and full sealed bearings at all pivots. haven’t ridden it much lately, as I’ve been doing other sports, and sometimes I hear how lame the 26” wheels are, etc. but sometimes I wonder how much the older tech really doesn’t hold one back. You guys sure seemed to have a lot of fun, I’m guessing on proper sizing, you would have felt even more confident!! Btw, skinny bars haven’t been cool since Tomac raced on HT back in the late 80s and early 90s 😉

Great bike, I had an Atomik from the same year, I regret selling it. It's good that you bought a revised version of the frame. At the beginning the 2008 frames had a hole next to the head tube, it looked very nice but it was cracking, so Norco started a replacement action - I replaced mine with no problem. Unfortunately, not everyone did it and now it's hard to find a frame without a hole where I live (Poland). To this day, I look back to Norco from those times... Likes the video, man :-)
