It all started a day and a half before when they were offshore and started having engine trouble. They somehow managed to make it into a dock safely despite the strong winds that night. I get a call the next morning to tow them to Bradenton Beach Marina for repairs and head out. As soon as I left the marina though, I knew it wasn’t going to be a good day to move this boat. The winds were blowing straight out of the north at 25kts gusting into the low 30s, so I called my boss and told him that it wasn’t a good day to do it and we should wait until the next day when the winds were forecasted to be lower. I hate going into this marina on a good day with a boat this size let alone a high wind day. It’s narrow, they don’t answer the radio, and trying to get through to them via phone is often very difficult as well. On this particular day, even when we could get through on the phone, they were clueless as to what was going on, causing myself headache, and the customer I was towing extra money as we had to wait for them to clear off the fuel dock which they insisted multiple times was wide open.

AI-Generated Description:
Join us for a wild ride as we navigate through unexpected challenges while towing a boat in treacherous conditions. It all started a day and a half before when engine trouble struck offshore. Despite battling strong winds, we managed to safely guide the vessel into dock. The next morning, tasked with towing it to Bradenton Beach Marina for repairs, we faced fierce winds blowing at 25kts gusting into the low 30s.
With reservations about the weather, I made the call to postpone the journey, foreseeing the risks posed by the turbulent conditions. Maneuvering a boat of this size into the narrow confines of the marina on a calm day is daunting, let alone amidst howling winds. Communication with the marina proved challenging as they often failed to respond to radio calls, and reaching them by phone was no easier.
Our patience was tested further as we encountered delays caused by the marina's confusion, adding to the frustration of both myself and the customer. Despite the setbacks, we persevered, ensuring the safety of the vessel and those aboard.
Watch as we tackle adversity head-on, highlighting the importance of caution and adaptability when faced with nature's fury on the open sea. Don't miss this gripping tale of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Hit the subscribe button and turn on notifications to stay tuned for more thrilling maritime adventures!

Awesome marina. No radio and a clueless phone operator. lmao. I don't think I would have much faith in a mechanic working in a place like that. His warranty on his work would be until you untied the lines. Towboat operator is one patient guy that is a pro at what he does. They should have taken his advice of where to take their boat.

Thanks Mike! I can't talk about the quality of their mechanics there since I don't have any experience with that... These guys were paying out of pocket for this tow, so it would've at tripled their cost to go to Snead Island

Ken, the problem is that they have a Sea Tow boat tied up there. They must give preferential dockage/service to the boaters that use that tow company. 🤔

It's a possibility...my boss said the same thing. It's a bad business model if its true though, since I'm bringing a customer into them who's going to pay them money to fix his boat. Shouldn't matter who brings them in...especially since now I'm going to take business elsewhere given the choice

Hey Ken, you've not been on my recommendation list in a while. I have some catching up to do. First thing I noticed is your video and audio you've got going is effing great! love the upgrades for sure. Did you only have the one bumper while going in to the dock to have a pivot point between you and the other boat to give you better control to maneuver? or was that for another reason? Great job w/ the tow!!

These are the new 200hp inline 4cy Suzuki's. We run Suzuki's on all our boats except the whaler that has the old 2 stroke Yamahas. It's what the boss put on this boat when it got repowered, but we've had good luck with the Suzuki's, so I have nothing bad to say about them. I 100% would not run Mercs though. I used to work for freedom boat club (owned by Brunswick who own mercury) and had lots of quality control/design issues with the Mercs.

You have my respect. The difficulties in hopping a vessel that’s larger and heavier than the tow vessel grows exponentially. The approach and securing that first line to the dock means everything. Tight quarters maneuvering with wind and current is not the situation you want to end up in. But it’s the amount of patience you have that gains my respect. My tolerance for dumb shit is insufficient to be dealing with people like this. When someone tells me something that my own eyes can see is not true it makes me ill. Especially when if they screw up it’s “oh well” but if I screw up it’s “$$” out of my pocket. At the first request to confirm, whoever was on the phone at the dock should have gotten up off their lazy sss and put eyes upon the situation. My question is if they had one engine and limited steering, could they not have made that journey unassisted? I do not know how the steering system is set up on that boat. And steering failures never happen with rudders straight.
