The Cadisen C8179. A big Royal Oak homage. Its handsome though, with good fit and finish, especially for the price of just over £60! Yes, it’s another homage, but not the usual Rolex Submariner or Seiko homage that are very popular right now. After recording the review, I checked AliExpress the next day (10th Sept 2020) and noticed they have a brand-new release! A 42mm case size version of this watch! Great news. I'd love to see the smaller version when you get it mate. Always appreciate the honesty and the bother you go to to provide us with the history lessons. I've got a 7.5 inch wrist and I can't help thinking the 42mm would be better I think it's a little bit more than a homage, it's almost a copy. Very tempted. Cheers Dan.

Although, the name goes back to the Royal Oak tree itself, I think the name was directly taken from the HMS Royal Oak; to play on the nautical theme. That's interesting as well, there have been 8 vessels to carry that name, going back to the 1600s.

So it is a standard (or just smaller than) Invicta size? I believe they often come in 52mm case size.

I’ve got a slightly different earlier version of this, grey sunburst and rectangles rather than the screws. Looks slightly less Royal Oak and a bit more hublot. Totally agree with your review, I have a slightly bigger wrist and get a perfect fit on the bracelet, but that’s slightly lucky given the lack of micro adjust. It’s definitely a bit of a lottery on that front

I'm a Dive/Tool watch kind of guy but I love that design almost perfect. If only they'd put a hexagonal crown on it I'd buy one tomorrow.

New San Martin is the AE Genta style watch to go with. Of course it's more pocket draining piece but it's gonna have better quality, better size and will come with a hibeat movement ( PT5000 ETA well reviewed clone from HK to start with or SW200 if you wish to pay even more - like a regular homage with Swiss movt price ). Will it be 4 times a watch comparing to Cadisen? Yes an no I guess. It's always hard to judge in horology world is the one that much better that the other as the price would suggest.

I was not that much interested in the real RO... So when I received it, I just enjoyed that big well finished... and cheaply priced Cadisen. As times go, it grows on me. Even if hefty, I like to have it on my 7 something inch wrist. The movement is a workhorse, indexes are perfectly aligned, the look is good with the waffled dial... And I'm impressed by the way this dial takes the sun. A real bargain for so much of a watch... Got it earlier than your review but find it very relevant. Thank you for your work

Dan I’m just thinking will a G Shock strap fit in those lugs? The strap on my G Shock square I think is 16mm and flares out very wide...🧐

I am both interested, and like the sound of your voice. Its not for me - I think its in league with the 43 mm Pagani Sub. Super value specs, but just too big. Bracelet looks cool but probably too beefy too. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for sharing, the screw heads bug me though. There is a small crater in the middle of them, then a small slot at 180 to each other. A bit odd.

So will this sit around the size of the 43mm Pagani Submariner? I saw someone on the comments suggest that it will. Not that it makes any difference to me - I ordered this one in the last Aliexpress sale ... just before the new size came out. Still on its way.

I'm not not a huge fan of homage watches but what this proves is how over priced the real items are. even if you factor in R&D cost and workman ship it still doesn't justify the price. have they become just for collectors or millionaires? as an investment it's horrible because there are much better ways of making money. I would love to own an Omega or Rolex but at their prices I would have to keep then locked up in a vault. try as I might I just can't justify it

Hella nice Dan, Thanks 😇 . Can I buy some of that sapphire grass from ya? 🤔 . Have a bushel of that growing in a raised flower bed would be quite lucrative 😋😋 . You can get the Benyar quartz version for $25 usd that would make a really nice Doner movement mod project. Here's an idea for you : how about turning that into a Swiss Oak with the movement out of that dress watch you picked up the other day?. btw , you canvpick up the Steeldive 1970 ver.2 from Alibaba for $80 usd 😇

This is a bit of an oddity. The case size is a head scratcher. The AP RO wears quite big even with its 41mm case size. Making it 44mm doesn't make much sense, Cadisen? Even the 42mm design is an odd choice for an homage. Make it 41 or 39. Also, the round and small crown doesn't fit this design. Seems like an afterthought.

Glad they make watches for us big guys. Not everyone has a sub 7.5 inch wrist, though the watch community acts like it.
