Most Hindus spend 20 to 40% of their life savings on their children's weddings, because Marriage is a one time event and considered as the start of a new life. Also hindu weddings are not 1 day event, it takes days, there are many rituals and ceremonies that needs to be done. Hence the expenses are even more. Ambani didn't even spend 0.5% of his savings. It's called work and employment opportunity for the workers and performers. Also it's not like every day was an event. Even ordinary Indian families have multiple wedding rituals and it's not a short affair. We just invite people of our own status. But they did arrange 50 more lavish weddings for underprivileged girls during this time as part of their own son's wedding celebration and gifted them some gold jewellery for the occasion. Those girls and their families would be thankful.
