The bins are still great for resellers. Many times it’s stuff goodwill has not gone through. We are able to get nice items by the pound and sell online at a reasonable price to people who need or want the items. We can sell them cheaper because we didn’t pay much buying by the pound. We have found so many new with tags career wear items. And nice children s clothes. Plus I get most of my clothes while digging at the bins.

What is the difference here? People complaining they can't resale items for a higher price is also making things unaffordable for people who would not have the opportunity to buy it at a lower price. People who buy this to resale are just a scummy as the Corp itself. I see no difference, both are trying to maximize profit.

For a long time, I thought it was terrible that the Goodwill charges so much for things that have been donated, and on top of that wanting you to round up!! I especially noticed when prices went up during and after covid. And that was when they stopped letting people use the restroom. And also stopped letting people use the dressing rooms. I feel that prices should be going lower now, because of inflation everywhere else. 4 years ago, after my sister passed away, and we cleaned out her apartment, her daughter-in-law said don't give all the stuff to the goodwill, because the owner is very wealthy! So fortunately we have another thrift store in town, and that's where everything went. :-)

I was at Goodwill when a family from our community house had burned totally down. They were given a voucher for each person for $50.00 each. They brought up their selections and were told that some of the things they picked they were not able to get. The dad had gotten work boots and they said he couldn’t get them. I worked at a flower shop and we offered to buy their regular floral vases for half price and was told they don’t sell stuff half price but they would take out and throw and break them in dumpster.

Resellers have helped the goodwill raise prices, they have mgr. watching shows to educate what is hot & desirable on market and mark it up. Because stores get bonus for who sells most. 15 years ago they started pulling any oil painting, antiques, by sight. Then they got scan machine that identifies item and prices it., also snap shot everything that comes in. Use to buy junk jar jewerly for 6.-8.00 then 20..30. now they keep it all and sell in bulk. They take advantage of everything and everyone that crosses their path. Please give to veterans store or animal thrift. You never tell where your honey pot is.

One other thing i seen was when a jewelry collection had shown up and each employee was allowed a few minutes to go upstairs and go through the jewelry taking all the gold and high dollar pieces. You could hear them going through the jewelry which sounded like it was in some kind of metal container. Totally corrupt!

Goodwill puts color price stickers on, makes color of the week half price, then pulls everything they can find with the half price color stickers off the shelves and racks at the beginning of the week, so you will rarely find things with the sale color stickers. The same is happening here in Australia. Our op shops are being run by managers that have to follow company rules and treat the volunteers staff like dirt. This applies to the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Red Cross, the Smith family etc, etc, etc. They are so greedy, I object to a large percentage of donations being payed to store managers, admin staff and the CEO’s and a pittance to the needy.

I shopped Goodwill a few times when it first came to town and wasn't impressed. Yes, you can find something worthwhile every now and then but far more difficult than the others which have also gotten more difficult but still better. If something with enough value is there, it gets pulled before getting to the store shelves. As listing items has gotten more difficult in making a final sale, just not enough incentive to go out of my way to go on a consistent basis. For those in which it pays off, keep going for it.

I disagree. I’ve had booths for over 20 years and when I find a great Christmas item in January (for example), I buy it. One other recommendation, fill your booth with as much merchandise as you can without making it look like it’s a hot mess. You’re paying for every inch of retail space, so use it all.

It is wonderful that people in need can find quality products at affordable prices. Unfortunately, the prices could also be rising because there are those who shop to resale. Sad if you think about it.

You can make those jewelry stands really cheap. I use paper towel cardboard and thrifted material and decorative paper . An I use wood or candle stick holders to be the support at the bottom. It takes a little time but they can be cute jewelry holders plus you could sell them in the booth.

I haven't seen a jewelry bag in an Ill Will in years, and one worth the money in even longer. One store has recently made items only, i.e. stuff I wouldn't pay ten cents for. No golf clubs at all. The art is Target and Wal-mart leftovers. If I spend $10 in a Goodwill, it's in a good month. We don't get the boxes or baggies; they're all sold separately.

A second hand store near me has cheap prices on most things already. About a week ago they had 50% off on Jackets and Coats. I bought two Coats and four Jackets for a total of $13 and some change. A steal. I will never have to buy a coat/jacket again.

Your booth has tons of room still. Having a vintage shoppe for years we know from experience people love tbe booths when they are packed full because they love hunting and rummaging through everything. Go up,stack, and create vignettes whether by colors, shapes or like items for interest. You hang a rod from 1 side to the next to hang things.

The bird is a Target bird. The tag has its name and year it was released. There used to be a huge market for them. The older, the better, but even some of the new ones that sell out in store can go for decent money. Especially if you get them for $1.99! Great find!

In the Greenville SC, upstate, they are piloting a flat price $4 an item in hard goods, mugs/glasses $1. It makes it hard to pick up very much at $4 an item. And like the beach, the good stuff goes to e-commerce and the base bid on those is up to $9.99 plus $2 handling fee per item even for local pickup. What a racket where your cog is ZERO! Good luck getting to 100K! Val

I went into a small thrift shop that I check into frequently. Somebody had passed away and they had been given a collection of elephant figurines of every size, shape and style. There were wooden, brass and salt 'n' pepper elephants, elephant vases, elephant planters and so on. Probably 500 elephants. Gradually, over a period of months, the elephants dwindled away, until finally the last one was gone. The next time I went into the store, someone came in and asked the clerk, "Do you have any elephants?"

Most of the big thrift stores in the Philadelphia area have been separating out any "good stuff" for years. Some goes online, some they put in glass cases to sell by silent auction or at premium prices. I still go to the Goodwill outlet sometimes, where they sell by the pound stuff that didn't sell on the shelves in the regular stores. Stuff on the shelves I've seen for equal or more than the original price it was sold at! I now go trashpicking instead.

Large chain stores throw new items away that are perfectly good. Dumpster divers sometimes get nice hauls, however these stores have begun to damage the items so no one can use them. Goodwill has to raise prices along with every other store to keep profit margins up otherwise they would go out of business. I stopped shopping thrift when I overheard a manager discussing a bed bug problem with staff. Scared me retail.

I rarely shop goodwill anymore. When I saw them selling stained tshirts for $5, i was mad. Now our St Vincent de Paul has gotten quite expensive too. Recently shopped for suit , shirt, shoes, and a tie for my son to wear to his grandmother's funeral. Thru at least 4 thrift stores we assembled an outfit for about $50. Not bad. But on a rainy day, we found out they stopped giving out plastic bags and had none for purchase near register. That was the final straw.

I was doing a lot of shopping on the goodwill online store and after many purchases I stopped because their prices are so high for everything they sell and you still have to pay for shipping and handling. Then if something does not fit you can’t even return anything. I see that they still have no problem selling their high priced used items online because they sell everything they put online. I got tired of the over pricing.

I get great electronics at Goodwill. I guess it depends on which Goodwill you go to; or if they’ve been picked over by resellers (who are known to go in an snatch up anything decent they can find.) the great thing about Goodwill is, they are always obviously cheaper than the resale shops (or else the resale shops wouldn’t make a profit), so I guess we can still depend on Goodwill as long as we beat the resellers to the store.
We couldn't believe these were abandoned!!
