I've only watched a couple of minutes so far, but I have to say this to those folks who don't think they are good enough to join in. You're not competing with the others: the only person you have to try and beat is yourself! As in sports and athletics, you should aim to equal or exceed you personal best -- to use a tired old cliche, it's not winning that matters, it's taking part. Now I'll watch the rest of the video!

Exactly this. When my kids were at school I always told them I didn't ever expect them to BE the best, I just wanted them to do THEIR best. So long as they could look at their results and say that they really tried and couldn't have done better, what their classmates did didn't matter. 😊

Wow this is a great challenge and it's perfect for the Affinity community. I think it's a little strange that Serif themselves haven't done this so I love that you take this initiative.

That’s what I thought! I just missed events like this, so time to host my own haha. Serif has done 1 contest as far as I know. But they seem the best very rare indeed. Can’t wait to see what you create! 🫶🏽

longtime Affinity user, Newly retired, I treated myself to AP2 and a new replacement for Wacom Bamboo. I had to get back to speed so this was a timely challenge! Thanks for highlighting Affinity Photo!

If you're using Affinity Photo V1 the templates won't open. In that case you can create the documents manually: Either use document size 2000x2500px (landscape) or 2500x2000px (portrait) with 72dpi! Sorry for the inconvenience, and all the best in the contest! 🏆❤

I'm still a V1 user and Affinity won't open the templates because they were made with V2. Can i manually create the documents setups? I already have the dimensions.

My bad! Yes, you can manually create them. It’s just empty documents with either 2000x2500px (landscape) or 2500x2000px (portrait)! Didn’t think about the V1 vs V2 thing. Hope this helps! Good luck, buddy 👊🏼

If you want to know the secret: custom brushes and a pen tablet. I am working on a new brush pack for hair and fur that makes it so much easier, once it's done I will make the pack available and create a tutorial about it!

Are we allowed to include historical photos, or "random stuff" from the internet in the composition?

As long as you just use it just for the contest (and/or personal use) and you’re not planning to monetize your artwork (like selling prints, etc.) all should be fine :)

i have affinity photo V1 your template page cant open so what are the dimentions of your landscape and portrait what dpi and what color choice, and dd you include any special margins im trying to get the free brush pack in ere as well that could be an issue for V1 as well

Oh I didn’t even think about that! The dimensions are 2000x2500px or 2500x2000px at 72dpi. Color RGB. That’s all you need! I’m pretty sure the brushes should work just fine. If not, let me know! Can’t wait to see your work! 🔥

You say that this has to be done in AP, do you want us to send a .afphoto file?

Nah, no need to send me the .afphoto. I just want to make this challenge specifically for the Affinity Photo community! Just submit a .png or .jpeg with the form and you’re good to go!
