From Wikipedia: How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on an original Swedish hymn entitled "O Store Gud" written in 1885 by Carl Boberg (1859-1940). The English version of the hymn and its title are a loose translation by the English missionary Stuart K. Hine from 1949.

This hymn was my grandfather's favorite and was played at his funeral. How Great Thou Art was written before Vince Gill was born. I know this song word for word. Even know how to harmonize when singing it with my sister.

When I was a child back in the 60s, I heard this song a lot. My grandmother had an album by George Beverly Shea with this song in it, and she played it often. This song gives me such good memories.

When you consider that this girl got her start on a singing competition, to see her reacting to a standing ovation by a room full of her peers was almost as powerful as the performance itself. She also couldn't have had a better accompaniment than Vince Gill.

In the industry Vince Gill is know as one of the greatest guitar players of all time. He can make a guitar sing and speak. Carrie I’ve followed since day 1 on idol and even went to her hometown. I love her song “Just a Dream.” We played at my grandpas military funeral. Just epic duo here.

All I can say is, thank God for American Idol. If she hadn’t auditioned and then go on to win it, we might never have heard that beautiful voice from an equally beautiful woman and I’m talking inside and outside. Just an amazing talent.

What you said about Vince’s writing is true, but this hymn is like 200 years old or something. 😂 This is more of a showcase for Carrie, and of course, Vince’s guitar playing. To hear more of his writing and singing, check out “When I Call Your Name,” and “I Still Believe in You.”

Oh Honey, this hymn has been around since the 1800's. And this is the most beautiful version I have ever heard. Both Carrie & Vince are legends. Carrie won American Idol in 2005.

A very old hymn, and the most moving rendition I've ever heard. Carrie's faith shines through bright and clear when she sings this hymn. I listen to it all the time and it brings me to tears every single time. You feel the Holy Spirit in the room when you listen to this song.

Vince is a musical genius! His voice is amazing! He has been involved in so many musical events. He was with Pure Prairie League. They didn't write this song, this song was wrote by Swedish Preacher Carl Boberg in 1885.

Check Carrie's video Champion ft. Ludacris. Carrie was the Season 4 winner of American Idol ( I believe ). In the Champion video if you look at the jerseys when they show hockey, Fischer is her husband. The surfer that has one one arm is the one the movie Soul Surfer was about, her name is Brittany, and Carrie was in the movie. She has an AMAZING voice. Vince is from a musical family as well. His dad Mickey Gilley was a country artist as well. Vince is married to Amy Grant, a Christian artist.

That performance was top notch. I just subscribed and I like your enthusiasm to all the reactions I've watched so far. Especially AC/DC.🎸 I'd like to request Craig Morgan "the father my son and the holy Ghost. It's a song about him losing his 19 year old son in a tubing accident. There's a live version and an official video. I recommend the live one. Keep up the good work brother. I'm looking forward to it.
