Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

This song is me now. I left the Church for 25 years, and the sorry state of the world led me to despair. I've come home to God, and this song sums up how I feel. I've not felt this peace before. Thank you for sharing all these songs I loved. I've got 25 years' worth of singing them to catch up on, and have been singing them with you almost non-stop since finding your channel.

I love the childish way of saying "Then Lord what will I do?", I love this because this express the inability and dependency of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as I'm completely unable to help myself, I cry out to the Lord and expect everything from Him. And He, wonderful as He is, Comes to the rescue of his incapable, weak, little child. So much good emotions come from this hymn, but this is not exactly important, it is the message, It is the reality of this divine truth that God Is My Father.

The first thing i noticed was the notes themselves...they are called shape notes. I have an old song book of my grandfather's that has them and i was taught to read shape notes as a child. Only later in a band class did i learn that round notes even existed

We often sing, "this world is not our home; we are just passing through." B. This is drawn from the passages which teach that we are sojourners and pilgrims here on the earth. 1 Pet. 1:17; 2:11 1. The Bible clearly teaches that this world is not our home. a. We are searching, looking, anticipating, and hoping for a better place, that home of the soul. I. THE WORD "PILGRIM." A. It is the Greek word "parepidemos" {par-ep-id'-ay-mos} which is a combination of three words: para - (alongside of), epi - (upon), demos - (used in Biblical Greek of the people of a heathen city). B. Here is how Thayer defines the word: 1. "One who comes from a foreign country into a city or land to reside by the side of the natives...in the NT metaph. in reference to heaven as the native country, one who sojourns on earth..." 2. "One who stays in a place as a stranger or visitor; to describe Christians whose final citizenship is in heaven and who are regarded as temporary dwellers on earth." (Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia Of The Bible) a. We would remove the word "final" from the above definition because our citizenship is already there and

I'm 85 yrs old. My Dad was from Texas and would sing this "toe-tapper" with a Western twang, even tho he didn't go to church with us as a family. Praise God, my Grandmother & Grandfather faithfully took him to church in his youth and God kept him in his sight through his earthly journey. But as he neared his time when the Lord was calling him home, he started singing this song again with a repentant heart and a renewed peace with His Savior and Lord. I was sad for the many years he had missed out on a close relationship with Jesus, but grateful for God's mercy and grace to be available to his prodigal son who I long to see one day in God's heavenly Kingdom for all eternity. A grateful Child of the King!

I hear you, but having grown up hearing this song sung by a congregation of elderly believers, I always took it more to be someone expressing their sense that (a) their time on Earth is naturally drawing to a close and (b) they are anticipating that with gratitude, while not looking to hurry it.

If the song is still under copyright, your best option would be to acquire hymnals, or to look into CCLI licensing (in order to display the music on a screen rather than needing multiple hymnals for each person or pair of people to use), which bases its fees according to the size of the congregation to keep things reasonable. If you acquire a hymnal, do not make the mistake of thinking that gives a congregation permission to make photocopies to distribute. It might seem strange that copyright laws apply, but think of it as a variation on "the workman is worthy of his hire." (Matt. 10:10)

Here's something I don't understand about this hymn: "If Heaven's not my home, oh Lord, what will I do?" There's a clear answer to this question, the question is why is the hymn writer even asking the question in the hymn? It's concerning 😟

Another possibility is that the person who wrote these lyrics initially didn't know how to express the grammatical concept of subjunctive and conditional, as in, "Were Heaven not my home, what would I do?"

*I Just Won’t Feel At Home In That World Anymore.* Listen, I am a baptist Christian, but I’m not sure if I want to go to Heavan now. I have a boyfriend and a girlfriend, due to me being polyamorous, and I’m afraid that they aren’t going to come with me to Heaven...my girlfriend believes in him though, she just “lets him do his thing” and doesn’t really have any interference with Christianity, and my boyfriend, well, I’m not really sure about him..but I’m really worried that they won’t be in Heaven with me when they pass...so, a question for anyone who sees this, what should and can I do?

You should probably start with examining yourself. If you have a boyfriend and a girlfriend and one or both of those relationships has a sexual component, it's possible that you're accepting/embracing some sort of sexual sin/desire that is taught against in scripture. The same would go for any un-Christian activities or behavior that you're involved in. Sin is sin, no matter what form it takes. If I have a desire to steal and act upon it without repentance/remorse, I'm a sinner and fall short of the grace of God. If someone (straight or gay) is a having premarital sexual relationships or is involved in a homosexual relationship, they are involved in sexual sin. Once you've examined your personal lifestyle choices and weigh them against scripture, it's time to realize how important heaven is. We won't be in Heaven to live *with* each other. We'll be there worshiping God. Here's what Jesus says in Matthew 22:30 - "30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven." I think part of his point there is, marriage and prior relationships will not matter. The glory of God will likely be the only thing on our minds as angels. I know some of this may be difficult to hear. And I want to warn you of false teachers out there that say it's okay to sin (including homosexual sin). If you're ever in question about something, go straight to scripture and *not* a preacher or teacher or blog. Some will twist scripture to make you feel better about yourself. If you need assistance finding scripture that fit your life, I'm happy to attempt to help.
