We use Riverside to record The PetaPixel Podcast in our online recording studio: creators.riverside.fm/Petapixel
We hope you enjoy the podcast and we look forward to hearing what you think. If you like what you hear, please support us by subscribing, liking, commenting, and reviewing! I loved the article about sensor size. Full frame cameras have always been just out of my budget range. So when I was recently trying to find my first mirrorless camera, I felt a little bummed about getting another APS-C camera. I would still love a full frame camera, but I cant wait for my Nikon Z FC to arrive this week.

I wouldn’t be bummed at all, you aren’t limited at all by the sensor size anymore and as a bonus you get smaller glass.

@@ronmurray7349 That Oly 45mm f2 is one of my favorite lenses of all time, based on the combination of performance, price, color, etc. I'm primarily on an S5II these days, but I will always defend the value of MFT (also have a BMPCC4K). Plenty of pro photogs I know still keep a foot in MFT. In fact, I bought my old S5 from a wedding videographer that **went back** to MFT for the size/price/performance ratio. Everyone is salivating over the X100VI (and rightfully so). But its popularity really just makes me want a new and improved LX100III.

I’m half Jordan, half Chris. We had an old school movie theater in Houston where my wife and I watched Parasite. Velvet walls and curtains, plush chairs. It had the old school popcorn, sodas and candy but they also had a bar. I enjoyed having my espresso martini but even better, they did intermission just like the old days. We hung out around the bar and hammered down a few more cocktails before finishing the movie. Wonderful.

Great episode! Loved the Movie-Theamed part. Please do it again in one year. On the full frame - article: Sure, if money is no object and you want to carry the big glass, go for it. But how often do you see a picture and go ' Man, this is almost a great picture, but it wasn't shot on a full frame.'? If you want to print really big, ok, but the challenge is to create an intriguing shot. With modern tech (denoise...) you can do this also on smaller sensors.

I love bigger sensor cameras but if Sony came out with a stacked APSC camera I would buy it in a second for nature photography. Added reach and speed with Sony's autofocus would be likely one of the best cameras out there especially if it came in at a similar price to the Fuji.

Was in a small Belgian movie theatre several decades ago. There was no concession stand. An attendant would walk the aisles before the movie started selling bagged sugared popcorn or a few sweets. Overheard locals a few rows away deriding Americans who couldn't sit for a couple hours to watch a movie without eating something. Have always wondered if things have changed.

That Pentax film camera should be quite nice. Half frame is still quite large by digital standard. It gives an 24x18mm frame, which would have a 30" diagonal and a 1.4x crop factor. So bigger film area than digital APS-C.

Totally unrelated but next time you have a chat with Sony, could you please ask them why you can’t use AF-C in self-timer mode (I’m on an A7C II)? They expect you to focus 10 seconds before the camera takes the shot. Are they unaware that people… y’know…. move and therefore any other modern camera uses AF-C and only tries to focus immediately before the shot is taken? This badly needs a firmware update. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thanks! 🙏

Great podcast guys. Speaking of BlackBerry, I used to work at their corporate HQ campus in Waterloo ON (it was still called Research In Motion back then before the rename), I somehow found the movie boring. I don’t even agree with Chris as far as sensor sizes where he said full frame is the sweet spot for most people. Maybe most professionals who only do portraits with extremely blurry backgrounds. But for the vast majority of people, MFT is the sweet spot I would say. The lenses are much smaller and lighter, you still get very good image quality (most people can’t tell the difference at all anyway, especially if you’re sharing pictures online). And it’s significantly cheaper. Full frame is definitely not the sweet spot for most people. This elitism and non-expert opinions spreading like wildfire on KZfaq and elsewhere online is extremely threatening to Micro Four Thirds in particular. And it really needs to be countered in videos and podcasts as often as possible.

Ansel Adams? Pick a format, any format. 4x5. 8x10. 35mm. Polaroid SX70. Get over it. There's no magic to "full format", 'cause there's no such thing as "full format".

Until full frame produces a sensor that exceeds the Arri Alexa 35 which Arri can't even surpass at full frame, that whole full frame is better argument is dead. Full Frame is what sells currently b/c the manufacturers withhold technology from APS-C which are faster, less rolling shutter, lower power consumption, less heat, etc. Cameras these days aren't even getting better in the image quality department b/c they keep stuffing more megapixels on the chips hoping people get tricked by resolution over out right image quality. I've still yet to see even some full frame cameras surpass the Samsung NX500.
