The verses about braiding and gold are referring to the first-century Roman style of doing elaborate braided hair styles with gaudy gold pins and jewelry in the hair to show off their wealth. The Roman converts were wearing it and Paul was telling them that they shouldn’t show off their wealth in their apparel. 🙂 I interpret it today by trying to wear more modest clothing and not showing off by wearing expensive clothes. 😊

For the never turning down your husband for intimacy thing, I would like to add that the husband should be able to read his wife and know when she's not available (emotionnally or physically) for intimacy. If she had a tough day, if she's feeling overwhelmed, if she's exhausted, etc... He should know he has to respect her feelings too, and take it on himself to not ask for intimacy that day. We can choose to fulfill our husbands' need, and trust them to know when not to ask. :)

I think you are spot on when you said you don't want to be labeled mennonite. It is not a denomination that saves you but only accepting Christ and following the Bible standards. Was so glad you brought that out so plainly!!! Interesting video, God bless you and your family.

Sorry I'm watching this a week late. I appreciate your boldness in speaking about cultural issues. I have recently become convicted to dress more feminine on a regular basis because of cultural confusion. It's so refreshing to hear someone on KZfaq discuss this. I always enjoy your blogs or videos. This one was particularly informative for me. I watch several channels that are by Mennonite women and I have wondered about the differences. You and Josh have a wonderful marriage and relationship with your children. Your ability to feed each other with the intangible needs of each other is beautiful. 🤗

Loved hearing your thoughts and your experience on your love for Josh! I believe 'eyes don't lie' & in your videos it's obvious in your communication that you have something precious with him. It's like a gentle blow on a little flame I have deep inside that desires such a love for my own man. I grew up wearing a head covering and still do, though it's style is different. I can relate to the part of not having that conviction myself. As of now, I still wear it when I leave my home but if asked by someone why I wear it, honestly, I'm not sure. I enjoy your videos. There is an unmeasurable amount of beauty and value of seeing someone live in what my heart desires but hasn't fully understood yet. It's inspiring 🖤

The Bible text on “braided” hair actually refers to “broided” hair, not braided. As in embroidered, which refers to the elaborate hairstyles of the time where gold, silver and pearls were woven into or embroidered into the hair. :)

Thanks for the video!! So for the braided hair, I’ve read that women used to do very elaborate braids with gold weaved in, etc. so it was seen as pretty flashy. So I think that’s how it would tie in with jewelry because it just points the attention to yourself and your own beauty/wealth/etc. But also I could be wrong haha who knows it’s very confusing

Marriage is a lifetime of lessons and learning curve. We just celebrated 40 years of marriage and we are still learning about each other and how to compromise with each other. Every decade of life and of marriage brings changes and we need to learn to how to address those changes- whether physically, emotionally, psychologically or financially. The biggest take away is staying true to your commitment to your faith, spouse and yourself- which should all be melded together to make your marriage specific to the marriage Trinity: God, spouse (whether you are male or female reading this, after God is your spouse) and self first.

I have been teaching the Word of God since I was 13 yrs old but one of the ways I learned to memorize the Bible as a child was a game that my Sunday School Teacher taught me. She had us memorize the names and order of the books of the Bible playing a race game... She would call out the name of a book and we would race to find it. She often rewarded the winner with little trinkets with scripture or certificates with scripture. Later she would also add the scripture book, chapter and verse. When my children were small I would teach them to memorize the scripture by telling them that every scripture had an address... Street Name and Number (Verse Book and Number). I found this assisted them in remembering the verses by heart. Repetition... Repetition... Repetition... Include repeating saying the verses out loud in stories but also in applicable moments in your lives. I believe in the scripture where God told Israel to teach the Word to their children as they sit, as they rise, upon awakening and before sleeping. Basically in every chance and opportunity give them the Scripture Out Loud because Faith Comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Memorization has to really become a Heart Thing... HOLY Spirit Will Write The Word Upon Their Hearts but He can't do that without you speaking the Word Out Loud to them first!!! I hope this helps you in some way regarding memorization of the Word of God. I truly love all your videos and have been binge watching them because of your Faith and Family Content. I love the Christian Worship Music You play throughout your videos as it always Ministers to my heart and your joy, faith and family All Bless My Heart. I love you sister in the Lord... ❤❤❤

the braiding thing bothered me too at one time. I believe tho its not referring to regular braiding - but fancy broiding... intertwined with gold strands etc. Jewelry - I abstain more to not offend church and family (I'm in a more conservative church) than I believe the bible has an absolute prohibition on it. And - I like pretty things... I think it would become unbalanced for me. Head covering... may I suggest a few things to consider or make a few comments? ... the 'covered to show they were married' thought - even if part of history at some point doesn't seem to be part of the biblical directive. 1. Paul nowhere mentions that as his reason for the practice. He does give several reasons in the passage (I Cor 11:1-16) - but that's not one of them. In fact there's nothing cultural mentioned. 2. Having a conviction for something to obey it can be tricky. We obey our parents - but don't necessarily believe all that they're telling us to do. Yet we're expected to obey. Doing a study on obedience in scripture and what God thinks of it can be very convicting :) 3. I agree - answering the question to a stranger that I cover because my church asks me to is not a sufficient answer. I've always shared something like - that I'm a Christian and want to honor God's Word. Head covering for women is a biblical teaching that I believe is still for today and I want to honor it. If they ask more... then I'll say more :) 4. Head covering is not a Mennonite thing and I too don't like referring to myself as Mennonite. Head covering is actually growing in popularity across denominational lines. It's exciting. And I feel too - like you mentioned - we're in an age when gender roles are more important than ever to honor the best we can. God's ways work. Not always easy and can be hard to 'stand alone' with beliefs and practices at times - but I trust that He knows what He's doing. And I'm from PA too. :) You're a sweet soul with so much wisdom and good ideas. Keep up the good work.

Just found your channel. I heard you mention you met your husband in Bible collage in IN. I met my husband as well in Bible collage. I grew up an independent baptist church. I wear a head covering when I pray in public in church out of respect for God and my submission to him. I agree that our inward heart should be filled with Gods love. In doing so, I think our inward actions will truly reflect God's love towards others.

I am a devout Roman Catholic. Before Vatican 2, we routinely covered our heads in church. That custom has really fallen off, although some women still do. As Stephanie mentioned, it is the posture of our hearts rather than the state of our head that matters. I understand and respect that some women cover their heads as a guard against vanity and I can see that being valid. PS….I live up state from you in neighboring Lebanon County. I know you are of Russian origin rather than German…..Welcome to PA Deutsher (Dutch) country. Please share more of your ethnic Russian and Canadian Mennonite traditions.

New to your channel - I didn’t sift thru all the comments but I just learned about the “braiding hair” verse! Apparently they would braid gold strands in their hair to flaunt wealth during that time, so it is logical to assume it was more of what you said - don’t flaunt your beauty or wealth and feel more valuable than others due to how you can (afford to) do your hair. That made a lot more sense to me than just the basic braid being bad somehow. (But it is a funny oversight of more conservative communities if you’re going off of the assumed meaning😅)

I choose not to wear jewelry like earrings because I noticed when I had them in ( when I was younger) that my body was always trying to heal the piercing it would sometimes be tender or if I left the earrings out too long the skin would sort of need repeircing again and i thought its almost like always having and open wound that the body has to always work on and I'd rather not stress my body any more than it need like if I grazed myself or had some other sort of infection I'd rather my body just be focused on healing those things and not have to spend its resources constantly fixing my piercings

I am.so.impressed with your boldness and sound foundation regarding your faith and walk with Christ. THANK YOU for your honesty and courage. In love with you and your contents. I don't think we have another influencer your age or older so.openly honest about their beliefs. Proud of you! One thing that kind of made me sad ( but value your vulnerability and humble heart) is that you admitted you don't read that much nor love it. My best advice as an older woman to a younger sister in Christ, do your best to expand and stretch your mind through reading great books( not the simple junk out there but books worth your tight time) The Bible is our most important priority because is God talking to us. Add solid books from the past and sound doctrine from today's authors and books relevant in the subjects you enjoy most. Finances, horticulture, biographies, history etc. Your favorite subject but only the best . Begin with little books and keep on growing as you begin enjoying that time of learning through men and women of the past and wise authors today. Christian literature and secular, both will benefit you if you are WISE in your choosing. I know you must be so.busy with little kids and time is nonexistent but...make it happen. One page a day?" According to your might" It is not a requisite to enter heaven, you are saved. It is finished! BUT it will make you more knowledgeable, wise and educated. Renew your mind and sharpen it with the Word and good books. Most of all, set an example for your kids of reading as an activity that so benefits them and equips their brains and enriches their lives. You are what you Read( and eat) ! With love from a mother of 3 bookworms who admires your faith and work. KUDOS!

I enjoyed this video. Concerning the head covering. In 1corinthians 15 it sayes But if a womanhave long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given her for a covering. So I feel like our long hair is our covering. That's my thought on the covering. As far as dresses and skirts that's what I wear. I can do all things in them with modesty. In the world we're living in now it's important to dress as women. Take care God bless!!! Your doing a wonderful job as a wife and mother!!!!

I agree with you about the hair and jewelry, it is all about why you do it, the intention of your heart and if it is to seduce, to be more appealing, then, this is wrong! the Bible also say that the hair of the woman represent the vale (need to have long hair) because how can we pray in the night then, if we removed the cover? Be our long hair, they are always there. i have been also confused with braiding hair and your interpretation makes lots of sense to me. Thanks for sharing, I was curious to know your thinking about those topics. You are such an inspiration I find, I just wish I had been a Christian mother when I raised my 4 kids, that would have been so different!

And you're so right about marriage!! It's only been 7 years for my husband and I, but we've not gotten to that point that some of my friends warned/told me about at all... we still hold hands all the time, snuggle kiss etc😉 and it seems that this past year, we have found a deeper depth between us, and I love it. ♡ God is good. I feel like if it wasn't for God, it wouldn't be so... but I think having God as the foundation of our marriage and me in myself keeping God as my all 100% made a huge difference in how we have turned out. I can not put my husband up there with God because I will only become disappointed in my husbands lack of response to my needs.... needs that, in reality, only God can fill for me. Hope that makes sense! When I keep my husband as a human being that is limited in his abilities to make me happy, it puts him in the correct position to be able to be himself fully as my husband. ♡♡

Here's the thing girls, you do yourself a favor by not refusing your man sexually... And initiating is good too. Obviously if you're sick or for times of mutual consent/ for prayer that's one thing... But it's very Scriptural to not deny one another. Steph said she still feels like she's on her honeymoon...and it really is due to the sweetness of their marriage in Christ and the intimacy they share.

I don’t ask this from a place of unkindness or criticism, I wonder how you are able to adequately home school your children when you don’t enjoy reading? Teaching children is a very important and specific skill that requires knowledge of how children learn. Acquiring knowledge of how children best learn requires the teacher to read, study and understand this skill of teaching. Teaching children is not just following a curriculum.
