The song is bittersweet, and it lends itself well to the timbres and expressiveness characterized in traditional Korean singing. As an amateur singer of choral music myself, I respect singers of traditional Korean music as the training is tough. Years ago, singers would literally scratch the lining of their throats repeatedly to achieve a rasp. This is no longer done, thank goodness, but naturally developing that tone is years worth of commitment. Living here in Korea, I've had countless opportunities to go to traditional music and singing performances. Despite my love of singing, I can only enjoy traditional Korean singing for about an hour before the emotion of it swells too much. There is a lot of pain and melancholy in a lot of traditional songs. There is also a lot of fun and humor, too! The other performances of BTS songs from this program are also really good! I hope you checked those out, as well!

This is my favorite reinterpretation of Spring Day and I never thought I’d ever see anyone react to it so imagine my joy at coming across this. I think if you were accustomed to this traditional style before it would make more sense that she’d interpret the rapping in that vocal storytelling style. I was captivated when I watched this air and I’ve been floored every time since. It left such an impression on me, it was my go to melody for Spring Day in my mind for about a month. I watched episode 482 of Immortal Songs 2. I liked 5Band and Son Seung Yeon's performances, but I'm still speechless that Song Sohee got eliminated in the first round. Her singing technique captures and elevates the feelings of Spring Day. And the subtle details of the set design add poignancy.

and the thing is that if you listen this in real stage, the impact of voice and emotion hit you like a Ddu Ddu Ddu Ddu. Seriously Korean traditional singing or opera should be experienced in a live setting. Song So Hee is great, but one of those hidden singer shows have ranges of fusion artists who blew my mind when I first heard them.

I love the purity of Song So Hee's voice. In my opinion, this is one of her least "traditional" sounding songs I've heard her sing...,most likely because it's a modern song. I still love it though.

I hadn't heard this version of Spring Day. I had goosebumps for nearly the entire performance. I didn't notice I had it on potato til the song was over. This was absolutely beautiful. If I didn't know what the song was about, I still would have felt it through her longing sadness in her voice. I LOVED this. It’s almost like a mix of plain song and women’s folk mourning vocals that you actually hear all over the world. It reminds me of grieving wails and dirges sung by Celtic women, Arabic and South Asian women. It’s as the French would call it, a “cri de coeur” (cry of the heart).

Song SoHee is one of the younger Korean traditional singer and you can think of it as close to the Irish folk singer like Enya. Korean traditional folk song is very taunting and heartbreaking since Koreans went through such a hardships for many years. She has been singing as a child and very popular in this genre and she can sing other genres too.

Thank you for your reaction, Roscoe! Traditional, classical rendition of The Queen; she gives it the operatic flair and does the song full justice. That rapid run at the start that you were not so sure about and decided you liked it - her take on RM's rap. I hope that listening to this cover has inoculated you enough that you can bring yourself to react to the LIVE PERFORMANCE by BTS of this song. The recent performances are beautiful (all their performances of this song are) but to get the full whammy I suggest you watch one of the earliest performances (my favourite is the 2017 Music Bank performance on KBS TV) with the original choreo. It has always been a disappointment to me that reactors to Spring Day get so enmeshed with the music video and its interpretation (and the Sewol tragedy connection) that they stop there and do not go to the live performance, like traumatised kids not wanting to go a step farther. In the process you miss out on the most heart-touching performance by these boys, when they were raw and just finding their musical form.

Song Sohee is the first singer of Modern Traditional music to reach the mainstream. Spring Day was her changing a modern song into a traditional song. She has very recently put out music videos and an album where she has created original songs in the new MT genre she created by playing modern instruments in a speed up version of traditional music that many novice listeners have mistaken for a rock and roll mix.

Song Sohee is my favorite Korean traditional singer. Those Korean traditional songs called "Chang". The way to make sound(vocalizations) for singing"Chang"is very different from modern (?)ways. I can tell it's built on sorrows and grief, which we say "Han" in Korean. I've watched this performance before and I thought it was fantastic. I am glad Roscoe you like this,too.💜

Song So-hee sings a modern adaptation of the traditional folk vocalization. Korean traditional music "minyo"(it's mean "folk song"). I think "minyo" are like black jazz. The origin of jazz was sung by black American from Africa in the past as a labor song. Similarly In Korea, "Crying Voice" or "Sobbing vocalization" as "minyo" style was a music that soothed the hard lives of lower people through labor, poverty, and disasters such as war and disease. Maybe "Spring Day" was made for "Sewol-Ho"(tragic accidents), so more touching heart with "minyo" style.

She is national korean treasure for singing folk songs in a style like "pansori" which is known for choppy range jumps. Almost an echo style of singing or warbling if you will. She combined elements of that style to a modern song which truly made this cover unique. She has an amazing lung capacity, often carrying notes for over a minute with power.
