Contrary to popular belief, salt water taffy does not contain salt water. The candy got it's name because it was, and still sometimes is, made near salt water (like on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey).

I have also heard that sometimes the salt water spray from the ocean would blow into the taffy stores and get into the taffy because those taffy stores were on the boardwalks very close to the ocean . Thats why they called it salt water taffy

Sara Barry You need to go! I have been to see a few New England states in the Spring and it’s absolutely beautiful there! And I’m from California 😁...I went there on my own several years ago and met my good friend where he lived in Massachusetts and he took me to see Rhode Island and we stayed in this adorable bed and breakfast Inn in Newport R.I.! Just amazing...Also, I had brown bread a few times from a can, it’s actually really good, especially with real butter and with any meal or just eat with butter..Before I got married, I traveled a lot and met some good friends, luckily I married someone who loves to travel and try good food! 😁💖

I’m from California and I’ve tried a few of those New England treats and chips and the brown bread, most of those items are sold in our grocery stores or specialty gifts shops on the California coast or any cute tourist towns, I met my husband in Cambria, California and he owned a cute shop where he sold a lot of really good sweets, fudge he made himself, and sold local made merchandise and I walked into his shop near the ocean and we kept in touch and our first real date, he drive fours to visit me and we went to Disneyland! We’ll be married 25 years in late September! We’re going to Hawaii for our anniversary! 💖... I hope someday you’ll be able to tour California and also go see Hawaii! Such a beautiful and amazing place to see in person. Hawaii also has really delicious sweets and treats and fantastic food! The sunsets are really breathtaking! Thank you for sharing, I think you two are just so cute and sweet people! 😁💖💖💖

Please excuse me if it's been stated before, but the brown bread is meant to be warmed up and buttered, then you put warmed baked beans over top of bread. You warm the bread by removing the label, removing one end of tin can, and place it in a pan of boiling water until fully 'steamed', remove bottom of tin, push bread out, cut into thick slices, butter, and pour on some beans. One of my favorite childhood treats.

Have one I think you would really enjoy. Applesauce Raisin Cookies. 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 cup applesauce 3 cups flour 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp cloves 3/4 tsp baking soda 3/4 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup raisins (more if desired) 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Thoroughly mix all ingredients. Drop by the spoonful onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or til golden brown. They are a puffy cookie, so you may even want to use a toothpick and check them like you would cake. It's one of my family's favorites.

I have know watched all of your American candy videos and you haven’t tried any of my favorite candies or treats. But I’m from the Midwest and most of yours are from the New England area. I just found you guys love the videos.

Another fun video. In America jam its contains fruit chunks where jelly is made from the fruit juices or strained before bottling. Both are yummy on toast but also waffles, fried dough, and ice cream!

Alex and Kate. Boston Brown Bread is traditionally steamed, not baked. That's why it's so moist. It is sort of like an English Christmas pudding, except you don't use suet when making it. Boston Brown Bread is usually made at home in a large coffee can. You pour the batter into the empty can, cover the top with aluminum foil, and seal it closed by tying a string around the top of the can. Then you place the can upright in a kettle of boiling water, cover it with a lid, and steam it for a couple of hours. That's why the bread has a cylinder shape when it comes out of the can. Boston Brown Bread is called "quick bread," because it is not made with yeast or eggs, and you don't have to let the dough rise for several hours before you bake it. Also, Boston Brown Bread is often served with Boston Baked Beans. So if you still have some of the bread left, you might open one of the cans of beans that she sent you, and serve it with the bread. It's also good with cream cheese spread on it.

American fruit spreads 101. There are 3 basic types of fruit spreads here in the US, jelly, jam and preserves. I'll try to describe the differences here without getting too wordy. Jelly, which is what you tried in the video, is best described as gelatinized fruit juice. It's literally a jelly with no fruit chunks. This is the least expensive option. Jam is basically jelly with some chopped, crushed, or puréed fruit added. This is the mid-range option, price-wise. Preserves are much like jams except they have much more actual fruit and the fruit is usually kept in larger pieces / chunks. As you can probably guess, this would be the more expensive option. Just an FYI: Based on personal observation, the 2 most popular flavors of Jam / jellies in the US (or at least in the parts where I've lived) are strawberry and grape. Love the videos. Keep up the good work. :)
