Ringo Starr was my favorite Thomas & Friends UK/USA narrator for the first two seasons of the show and he was the quintessential actor to play Mr. Conductor on Shining Time Station on its first season and Christmas special.

Honestly series 1 has always been my favourite season out of the original run from the show, I’ve always loved the simplicity in the set designs, the camera close ups etc plus the character themes in the first two seasons were always my favourite due to nostalgia biases 😅, also the character arcs for all the characters regardless of how simple it is in story structure it’s still solid character progression for most of the cast specifically Thomas and Henry.

This is how I got interested in steam trains 🚂 and i still love ❤️ rewatching the classic model series of Thomas and friends to this day and looking back at these behind the scenes videos makes me love and appreciate all the hard work and dedication that both Britt Allcroft and David Mittion put into making this timeless classic masterpiece that still brings joy and inspiration to both fans young and old thanks for sharing this amazing video 👍❤️

Series 1 (Or Season 1 for those in the US), is fascinating as they managed to film all 26 episode in small stuido (allegedly in a Garage though unconfirmed), compared to sheperton studio where the show would be made until Season 12, while being faithful to the railway series especially with infulance from Reginald Dalby Illustrations brought to life by Robert Guillards the synic music by Junior Campbell and Mike O'Donnell help give it an 80s vibe unique to the first two seasons of the show!

These people have invested so much love, effort, empathy, and work that today this series has been completely ruined. I mean, this is a horror, what they have done to this series today. We want the old Thomas back ❤️❤️❗❗❗❗

Thomas is a tank engine with bright blue paint, the number 1 in the center of himself on both sides, a tall black steam funnel, a mini control cab with a big coal bin and six driver wheels. He lives and works on the fictional Island of Sodor with his friends. Sodor is located between England and Wales and it has railway lines all over it for growth and expansion as well as new construction updates and product stock repilings.

Amazing video with some minor details that Usual Bloke Luke and the Unlucky Tug forgot to mention in their respective videos (no offense). My favorite part of it was that you mentioned Robert Gaul Galliers being responsible for all the concept art like what TheTrainModeller recalled, not David Mitton. And, Luke, if you're reading this, I just wanted to point out that in your review of Series 7, you technically made a little mistake in saying that Mitton was also responsible for the storyboards when it was actually Galliers. But, like him, he might be the second unsung hero of the classic model Thomas series.

I think it's no secret that Britt Allcroft's vision for adapting the Railway Series is superior than what the BBC and Andrew Lloyd Webber tried, especially since she mortgaged her own house to fund production. That is how Thomas should've stayed with an independent company instead of being in the current hands of corporation meddling companies like it is sadly now. She, Wilbert Awdry and David Mitton were the true Thomas legends in my opinion bringing our childhoods to life. Unlike other S1s of each TV Show like either Muppet Show or Theodore Tugboat (the latter which had so many goof ups), this one of Thomas actually feels more special and actually ages well with its visuals and bringing the characters to life with a unique sense of charm added to it.

I've been digging for exactly this type of content! Thank you for making this! One thing I REALLY want to know about is how they made the actual models, interchangeable faces, steam, etc. Fascinating to me!

Thanks for watching there is more to come! The models were made out of plastic. Custom Made! They then used modifed Marklin Gauge 1 Chassis. As for the faces I believe they were intially sulpted out of clay and then resin casts were made for a more sturdier mould! Hope this helps!

@@thomasthetankman111 My husband does tabletop gaming, so I'm super familiar with the model world. That's partially why I'm so interested! I figured they must be sculpted clay and casted. Would love a video on that, if There is any information to be dug up! This is a lost era that is so fascinating to learn about.

3:51 This narration storytelling typing is most similar to writing the story about Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends. If I liked to type up the narration, I would had extra descriptions on that.

I really enjoyed the video it was very interesting Thomas the tank engine and friends is a important part of my childhood I remember watching the frist series when I was 3 years old I've been a lifelong fan ever since I love the railway series books as well.

This is a really lovely compilation of info. This makes for a great and concise starting point for anyone interested in Thomas’ production. I am curious though, what are your views on using the original rushes for the episodes over the restored/re-edited versions?

Thanks for watching. Well the rushes would have had to be rescanned to make a restored version of the show. Which then means it has to be re-edited due to being new scans. However, in places it really does fail. Most notable 'Coal' is just terrible with that one shot. The rest of the series I don't have an issue with whilst using some alternate takes. They do the same job as the orginal.

I think they used flour for season 1. But they probably just cleaned them after every take!
