You are doing the humanity a huge favor. I've been wanting to read his books for a long time now but I've not been able to due to work. But not thanks to you I've listened to this whole book while driving here and there. It is a book that is so clearly written and so fundamental that I think all our problems could be solved by encouraging people to read this. And virtually anyone can read and understand this. Contrary to popular belief, it takes a great genius to communicate one's point as clear and methodical as this.

Thank God! I have tried in vain for the past three decades to teach or express many of these ideas, when I've encountered leftist ideals or illogical behaviors. These studies, for me, are of personal nature and outside of my vocation. I am not this well spoken or formally educated, therefore, I have been ridiculed and written off as either lacking proper education, being racist, being a male shovenist, or made to feel as a lesser person who was "imagining things". Thank You Dr. Sowell! I am so grateful for having found your works. It's sad that I didn't find you earlier in my career, for it could have saved many headaches. You have enriched my life and taught me a great many things. The world is richer because of your knowledge. God Bless You!

Every chapter of this book is like repetitive punches to the face. You realize that one thing you thought was true was wrong and then another and then another and then another. Or you realize that you used to think this thing was true but you have disagreed with this at some point but just didn't know how to put it into words yet. Amazing

*Accurately points out correlation doesn't imply causation* *Uses correlation to prove causation a few minutes later* Don't get me wrong, a decent portion of this is well argued, but some of it was pretty transparently crafted to reinforce a pre-existing opinion of the author's.

@VincentWeisTheThird
@VincentWeisTheThird 2 жыл бұрын
I worried about that at first, but it's important to note that the burden of his argument in the context of this book is not often to support a theory, but to disprove an existing one. A correlation between two statistics might not imply either causation or a direction of that causation, but a correlation between two statistics can rule out a relationship otherwise established by other fallacious statistics, or otherwise render invalid other conclusions. The relationship between the denying of mortgage loans and race, for whites, blacks, and Asians, for example, is used to disprove causation in that way. He's not seriously making an argument that whites are discriminated against because Asians have lower denial rates. He's making the argument that no such relationship is evident from those statistics, even when put in conversation with other factors. Generally speaking, this book is denying the validity of specified fallacies, rather than explicitly establishing causative relationships. Where causation is implied or made explicit in the argument, the data used depicts changes over time that make establishing that relationship more reasonable. So I'd say that overall this book doesn't really fall into that trap often.

Sadly, Dr. Sowell is in his 90s and, while I wish he could live and be productive until 150, he is likely and most sadly not long for this world. I pray I am wrong. Perhaps more upsetting is the fact that he hasn't, to my knowledge, recorded any of his books leaving his intellectual legacy in his own voice. I hope this changes and he can read and leave us just one audio book. Be well Dr. Sowell and God bless you.

Leslie did you learn about Comanches almost wiping out the Apaches and ravaging any other tribe they encountered? They tortured raped and killed. Most tribes interacted with each other using brutality. We have given sovereignty and massive welfare but they really just need our capitalism and tech when you see them thriving today. Also Africa currently has hundreds of thousands of slaves while Americans still claim we should live in shame, being the second nation to make it illegal. All peoples used to live in brutality and subsistence to varying degrees but don’t be focused on romanticism, negativity and ideology..it’s a dead end. I was led astray by it for way too long. The American economic system, bill of rights and constitution are incredibly important advances for humanity, currently being threatened by globalization..tyrants of the elite. Look into Klaus Schwab bragging about the elite gaining control over our lives and leaders.

Sowell's take on economics is great for the imaginary academic world. All of his economic generalizations and trite statistical averages are great stories to tell to those learning about economics. However, real world economics, business and politics is vast and very complicated. To me, Sowell's fables and so-called "facts" don't seem puissant and are not useful in reality.

Furthermore it’s frowned upon in the south to be anything but religious l, especially when you’re black. It’s time to leave it out all together because it’s still affects mindset the majority which are religious people. I don’t know what internet you’re on but we know how algorithms work.
