You’re content is often relevant to what I’m struggling with. Thank you for this because I was literally having this conversation today that I can’t sustain Keto or carnivore for more than several months at a time because I’m not eating foods that have a variety of flavors and textures, and I end up relapsing to trigger foods just to eat something different or crunchy. This has been my roller coaster experience since transitioning to Keto about 5 years ago. I have lost 40 pounds, and I’m eating so much better but losing the last 30 pounds has been a struggle. This eventual relapse is causing major plateaus that’s made this weight loss slow. I think cycling in some Mediterranean meals will give me the satiety and flavor rich foods that I’m longing for. Thank you for this video.

Have been doing Mediterranean since birth (or weaning, depends how you look at it) and never heard of lean meats being a part of it. Nobody cares about that, only about the quality and taste, meat is actually cooked with the fat for flavour. Main thing is use olive oil in most places. Not just as salad dressing but also with your veggies (no salad dressings full of rubbish), with vinegar (wine or ACV). You'll be hard pressed to find processed foods in a Mediterranean meal, and that also makes a big difference

I am getting ready to order the Mediterranean keto book from Amazon. I have been adding fruit every day because I need all the spiking to stop. I want my body to know that fruit is not bad. That was my downfall the first time on keto that made me fail. I like 10 grapes, I like a small apple, I like half small pear, I like a banana right b4 I see spots. It’s been working. I have gone from 153 to 98-110 glucose in three weeks. I have also done a couple omad days. I feel that I have fueled all my cells without leaving things out. Fruit mornings veggie nights 😃

EXCELLENT ANALYSIS‼️ I’ve been in a totally Mediterranean with a keto touch diet for almost 4 years, I reversed autoinmune, high blood pressure and pre diabetes! Could not be better! It’s a matter of balance👍🏻

Being able to weed out the carbohydrates is a challenge since all the sauces, oils and creams soak into this medium that helps in gathering for consumption.

Thank you for this information. You are a blessing and I listen to you often. The information you have provided have changed my life. I am 63, have lost 35 pounds in two years, have more energy, work out three times a week with cardio and weighs and no longer have brain fog! The Mediterranean like diet mixed with Keto and occasionally IF has changed my life!! Whole foods, exercise and lifestyle changes pays off!!!!

It's not a diet. It's a way of eating. An update on the world’s most misunderstood eating style and why the contemporary version is making people overfat. Most people have heard about the Mediterranean diet, and the medical literature contains thousands of research articles referencing it. The “Med diet” has been recommended as a remedy for metabolic syndrome, “weight” gain and obesity, and for preventing most chronic diseases. There’s also a connection between the overfat epidemic and the modern version of the Med diet, which is really quite different from the original. Healthy components of the original Med diet include higher consumption of olive oil, vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts, and moderate red wine intake. Known for its higher fat content, especially when supplementing extra fat from olive oil and nuts like almonds and walnuts, the style of eating is associated with a reduction in cardiovascular risk by about 30 percent. It has also be shown to reduce carbohydrate intolerance. However, over the course of decades of research, something bad happened - an obvious problem consistently missed by the media and most scientific discussions - the diet began to include processed junk foods. Associating these health benefits with today’s popularized and contrived “Med diet” is a myth. Technically defined quite simply as a menu of the traditional foods that have been consumed for thousands of years in the areas that surround the Mediterranean Sea, this way of eating has been described by modern-day nutrition researchers as “the cultural heritage of all mankind.” This is the same geographical area where Western civilization began to flourish, creating art, commerce and culture. Agriculture was the foundation of society, and it’s thought that 80 percent of the population was involved in growing, producing or selling these healthy, natural foods. Unfortunately, the media has misled people about this so-called “diet.” Some researchers have even made a food pyramid out of it. Not unexpectedly, hundreds of diet books and cook books have been written in many languages. The worst portrayal of the Med diet is that it’s a “diet” in the first place. It’s not. There are no rules, no serving sizes and no special recipes one must follow to eat this way. It’s a way of eating local, natural foods “specific to a certain climate and culture,” says Walter Willet, chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. “By paying attention to healthy ingredients rather than specific recipes, anyone can adapt this plan to their own tastes.” The result is better fat-burning, increased longevity, and improved health with much less chronic illness. The area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea varies significantly in climate so that the food grown there can differ considerably as well, and even the seafood available in waters in different locations can vary. This provides a smorgasbord of healthy, natural foods rather than one eating style. Another myth is that the Mediterranean people avoided eating animal foods. They ate meat - ranging from poultry and lamb, to wild animals. Likewise, they didn’t shun beef, it just was not part of the daily dietary regimen because cattle didn’t exist there in large numbers. However, raising other animals provided more than meat, including chickens (which also provided eggs), lamb (which also provided wool) and sheep (which also provided milk). In addition, the whole grains consumed in the Mediterranean area were truly whole. Cereal, from the Greek word sitos, refers to any type of grain. For thousands of years, about 90 percent of the cereal grain grown and consumed in the Mediterranean region was whole, unprocessed barley. Most people today, especially in the Western world, have never seen or tasted whole grains despite what labels say on most packaged food items like breads and cereals. The commercial phrase “whole grain” is usually a gimmick to fool people into thinking they’re eating something healthy, when in fact the product is most often highly processed.

Thank you for sharing such good information backed by good quality studies. I just attended a full day cardiology conference and was pleased to see how much diet, exercise and lifestyle management was stressed and encouraged to us providers. Multiple speakers highly touted the Mediterranean diet.

This seems to hit many great markers. It’s difficult to follow “all or nothing” dietary plans and the Mediterranean seems to walk a great balance. As the follower of a renal diet which restricts so many protein foods, the Mediterranean plan can be modified for the needs of everyone. Thank you, Thomas.

As a recovering YoYo dieter I’ve been doing low carb and intermittent fasting for almost 3 years. Having reached my goal weight I have to admit that the Mediterranean diet is very appealing because of adding more interesting foods with more satiety. I will be adding a variety of foods and varying my fasting window. Muscle loss is a big concern as I get older. I have come a long way since I eliminated most of the processed foods and bad oils from my diet. I’ll have a special occasion treat and not beat myself up. These treats just aren’t as tasty anymore. It’s too bad that PCPs are not as interested in keeping us healthy as they are at prescribing the latest drugs at their disposal. The food pyramid has so many pitfalls and it’s just bad advice. Thank you Thomas for giving us some options to think about. 😊

Must admit I am having doubts about this guys real motives. He seems to be jumping the full Keto ship. This could be a way of levering the green agenda anti livestock agenda into mainstream. Cow farts and all that. I notice also Pam Popper pontificating about the Vegan way of eating. I would even question the papers he is quoting.....who is funding these studies. Who do we trust these days. Not pharma. All I really know we havent got canine teeth for nowt, and history shows very little veggies available in the wild, especially above the arctic circle.

Avocado oil oxidizes quickly - ok if fresh...but never use it to cook with. Eat tons of olives though.

I used to follow the Mediterranean diet, but I couldn't loose weight, so I turned to keto. I wonder if eating like this, and restricting calories (again, I tought I has overpassed that " restricting calories stage") would work for me

Jeez,, I noticed loss of strength in my 30’s… before COVID I was doing keto and felt so much better…. After fell off during pandemic and now struggling just to go back to even low carb 😖 late 40’s now everything hurts 😵‍💫

yes, CCK, PYY, GLP-1! however, if there is a serious problem in this area with the output of the L cells, there is not an easy fix. gallbladder enzymes and other factors could play a huge role in the cell differentiation of stem cells into L-cells. so, just feeding the gut bacteria with more fiber might result in more hormone output of the L-cells. they have a short lifespan of only 4 days. maybe feeding them with more SCFAs might prolong their lifespan by a day and leads to effective more L-cells. maybe not. there still are much more questions than answers. maybe i try a microbiome fix with a potato diet with asparagus and artichokes etc. for a week or two

I like everything about it except for the lean meat. I quite love a good ribeye steak or other cuts that have more fat. I like to grind a chuck roast and maybe brisket to make my burgers. That being said i think its a balance. I employ time restricted eating and fast for a few days every few months as well as skipping the odd day here and there. i'm not ridged about it, if there's a party or other social event I go with the flow. Anyway brilliant video with great info, as always.

You have diabetes type 1 or 2? The type 2 is reversible, but even type 1 can be managed. There is a doctor here on youtube, type 1 diabetes. She only eats once a day, basically she does intermittent fasting, no carbs, and she needs very little insulin. You'll find a way ...

@@thechosengirlreviews That's totally reversible, I've seen so many people on youtube who reversed it, with keto( no carbs) and intermittent fasting. Dr Jason Fung ( u can find him here on utube) has helped many patients. If you are strict about ur diet, you can reverse your diabetes in 6 weeks, also you'll lose weight too.. Insulin resistance is the culprit here.. Once your triglycerides loweredwith diet, in 6-8 weeks, you can add beans and oats.

A point made by Nina Teicholz in "Big Fat Lie" is that therre is no real concensus on what the Mediterranean diet is. There is a tremendous range of macronutrients and food types across the Mediterranean. I am not trying to be a detractor..and indeed I like eating things which could be described as Mediterranean. But in terms of scientific support for the benefits of this diet, it must be seen in the context of many Mediterranean lifestyle features, including the wild food eaten by the animals which are eaten, the social context sun exposure, excercise balance. Having said that, I will certainly by guided in my diet by the points made in this video.

I’m still concerned when using stevia, allulose or monk fruit sweeteners- the CPIR that yet produces insulin… is this still causing excess insulin that’s not used & circulates the blood? Really cool info! Thank you!

the half life of insulin is 5-6 minutes, it won't stay in your system long.

I appreciate what you are saying. But when most Americans hear Mediterranean Diet they hear Spaghetti with Meatballs and Garlic Bread, Chicken Fettuccini with garlic Bread, Pizza and Lasagna with Garlic Bread. For ten years my doctor said that to me. Meant nothing. When I got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes they were going to do a 30 minute phone call consultation I hung up on her. I am sure they were going to charge $1000 for that call and she was going to read the USDA food chart to me. I still don’t know how Doctors expect someone to get control of it with out a treatment plan. I see hundreds of people at the gym failing to lose weight. It’s really sad. I had to figure it out for myself. My faith in doctors is in the tank. They are practicing propaganda and drug sales now. My doctor told me to run I have had 4 back surgeries, I told him even as a kid I hated running. I lost the weight in spite of what he said fasting and low carb. Until healthcare professionals start teaching people what to eat and how they can exercise within their capabilities. If I hadn’t had debilitating pain from my back I would still be struggling. I had to go to Sports injury Clinic to ask to learn how to be able to get up and down off my knees so I could pick stif up and do other stuff. I would sweat at the least physical activity. They made it possible for me to return to the gym. My point is you talk to smart in shape people most people don’t have a clue. A lot of people can’t afford to eat Whole Foods.

Arthritis, all Med diet people I've known past 50 have debilitating arthritis and inflammation from the fruit sugars. It keeps them glucose dependent, helpless. Doesn't seem logical. Glucose holds water, fact. You are amazing, the med diet thing however, doesn't add up. It's hard to see so much pain. Makes me cry to witness and no report changes that end game.

It should be noted the traditional Mediterranean diet is very low carb and no processed foods at all. It seems to have been westernized in the last 20 years making the new one very unhealthy.

Yes you can reverse it. Lift weights. Start light then slowly work your way up. You can do calisthenics instead. Such as pull ups and push ups. Train upper and lower body too. Also increase your protein intake. I personally eat eggs, sardines and cottage cheese for my most of my protein, but there's obviously other forms as well. I'll be 56 this month and have built muscles in my 50's. All naturally. You can do it 💪

oats are ok but they first need to be soaked in water for several hours to get rid of the phytic acid that stops nutrients being absorbed.

I agree about the confusion... but i think on one of his videos he was talking how pretty much useless keyo becomes after 6 months ( due to playo, i believe, as well as inabilityofcthe body to utilize carbs), so one has to take a break from it, this is where Mediterranean is cool to involve. Maybe, as well, you could do carb cycling a healthy way, or " cheat days". It's difficult to go back to keto, i understand, but It's good to have variety.

How about adding a cooking show to your channel? Something a bit out of the comfort zone like sleeping on the beach and grilling the bats you hunted yesterday from the cave with Bear Grylls. Hello from Croatia. We have vitamine D 300 days a year also :D definately the best diet, just come by and you will see old sailors being lean and strong in 80s. Made me wonder, what do you eat if not having home made olive oil, freshly cought fish, some octoppus under the bell with potatoes, or some lamb and chicken, not having organic vegetables, or sage, rosmarine,mint,parsley and basil growing in a garden or windowsill? Etc etc. For me all of that is just regular stuff. I never go to mcDonalds here in Dalmatia as it's so tasteless.. Wish you were all having our diet (munching olives with some local cheese while watching lol)

The mediterranean diet is Old as the Earth and approved by science. I am on mediterranean diet for decades. I tried different things like Keto and carnivore, by curiosity. They both don't work for me. Something they both missing out on nutrition.

Italy among other Mediterranean countries eat a lot of pasta, bread, sugary desserts, etc, and there are many different Mediterranean countries with different diets. How can you bundle them all as The Mediterranean Diet and they all are getting unhealthy like the rest of the world. Keto/ketovor/carnivore is the healthiest diet out there as it’s THE PROPER ANCESTRAL HUMAN DIET.

Why are you watching then? It’s your choice to watch or not . Plus I’m pretty sure that our ancestors were omnivores . But you do you and let everybody else enjoy a wider range of food with scientific based benefits. Carnivore diet may help you live longer, If you live a few months longer than me then good on ya. I fast and eat low carb when I can but I enjoy a range of veggies and will have homemade pasta and home baked hi fibre bread on occasions dipped in olive or avocado oil and really enjoy it. The thought of eating all meat, not only would make me broke but also makes me want to vomit 🤢 . You do you and I’ll do me and we’ll both live our best lives the way we want to. Again if you don’t agree with a video why watch and comment? it just helps his channel grow. I appreciate the science, I take what I want from it and leave the rest.

You said “we”…..you have to do what feels right for you and what your metabolic needs are. If that’s keto, I’m sure that’s just fine! I also just started doing keto about a month and a half ago because I was recently diagnosed with MS and diabetes and keto is going to help with both. I can’t do any of the carbs that are allowed in the Mediterranean diet (at least just yet!) but keto is currently what’s working for me.

Healthy fats in keto are olive oil, avocado, nuts....I thought I was doing keto, but it turns out I was following mediteranian type of diet. Just leave out the heavy fried in bad oils food, the carbs and try to eat within 6 hours or so all your meals.

@Jerry Seeley Yeah, it's confusing... Plus, I find most people do " dirty" keto. Not all cheeses are great for you, I prefer fermented cheeses such parmesan. Sausages, hams and salami are full of nitrates... we should eat real meat, eggs, fish, seafood, chicken.. In the end the goal is to be healthy, not just lose the weight. I started to add beans and oats into my diet recently, after 2 years of keto, I think we need the fiber to get rid of cholesterol. It's an ongoing experiment for me 😀

I would love to see how the Mediterranean diet compares to the carnivore diet in a head to head. The Mediterranean diet was created in the 1950's by someone that did not understand the culture or why the people were eating what they were eating. So it is a fairly new diet where as a diet consisting of over 70% meat goes back to before humans became humans. If meat would have always been available I think they would have been eating 100% meat.

Jack Kruse mentioned UVB and IR-a sulfates vitamin D and cholesterol the other day working upon Stephanie Seneffs work. I wonder if hydrogen sulfide SIBO isn't just a way to circumnavigate issues with transsulfaration but also a way to give the mitochondria hydrogen when cellular exchange is inhibited. As the extracellular matrix and glycosaminoglycans are sulfated too and need proper transsulfuration to work properly.

I've been on the Mediterranean diet for decades, the best ever. Americans have always been so behind other cultures when it comes to whole nutrition. That's way US have the most sickest people among the developed countries. All the diets Americans have popularized like Atkins, keto, paleo, vegan, carnivore- none of these are sustainable for long term bc they lack diversity of nutrients which we need in order to have a healthy body for life.

meanwhile in my oven: fatty organic salmon, shrimps and feta cheese cooked with oliveoil and thymian :) tomorrow will be my carnivore day: rib eye beef with green asparagus and eggs slowly cooked in grasfed butter... damn i love a low carb diet, its so good :) and when i get cravings from time to time, i do a cheat day... easy life :)

The reason Mediterranean diet is low in protein is because you eat at a restaurant and giving you more protein cost money. I just cook my food with more portrait and it's not Mediterranean. But as all the elements similar to a healthy diet

You know, if he hadn't spoken about the Mediterranean diet previously, I would've said this was published on April 1st and clearly a joke. But I don't believe every part of the Mediterranean diet is good, especially for folks who have metabolic disfunction. I would say keto wins. However, I don't think Mediterranean is bad at all so long as the focus is on the fats, vegies and meats.
