Today I venture out in to the landscape with my Hasselblad 501cm film camera and photograph some black and white landscapes using Ilford Delta 100 film. I am joined by Joe Allam and drive out to the Yorkshire Dales.

Cheers, Tom - thanks for having me in the North! Shame the conditions didn't allow for Big Bertha to flex some panos, but I had a great day nonetheless and love the portraits captured at the end! ✌

At last - some one who understands what the filter colours mean! The orange filters of course, holding back the yellows and /ranges and passing the blues and purples more readily, making them.. :"Higher contrast" (but not in all scenes)! The image at 6:44 making this statement very strongly! Good to see you out in the cold weather too. Ewan

Always love beautiful black and white photography. I always feel a good black n white photo always has a profound story connected to it, with lots of expression as oppose to color. I am not dissing color but I feel more inclined towards black and white. Big fan of Ansel adams 😁. I love the potrait photos too.

Thomas, looks bloody cold!, cold enough for an icecream each!! Have followed you for a long time, very chatty and informative as well as super landscapes. Yes I've lived in the UK a long time ago and bicycle toured Wales and England and a winter 'walk' in the Cairngorms among many other excursions. I've used a 'blad but just could not 'gel' with it now back to using a Mamiya C220, although a little heavier it's quieter and I can use the slow shutter speeds. I lust after your Delica, I own a 2021 Pajero.Cheers.

Square format ought to be the norm; even for TV. I used a Kowa (known as “poor man’s Hasselblad” in the 70’s” for my B&W work. For color I used Canons with slide film. Slides were like were like a high wire act with no net. And, yes, film and processing were expensive and I didn’t know if it worked for at least a day… digital is so “easy” … if it is ok, you know it. Thanks for sharing your shoot.

Nice video. Orange filter. "We" - old people in the film days ;) - used a yellow filter to make skies pop. Clouds whiter and blue darker. And that made a dramatic difference - in the skies in your photographs. With an orange filter, you shift more to red and this will start to impact "greens" that become darker relative to yellow-filtered and that is, I guess, illustrated in the still around 1:49 where the hedges are almost black and the fields with white hoarfrost remain white, of course.

Thanks, another hit! In the 1980's I lived in Michigan and often shot in bitter cold. Landscapes, macro, and wildlife. I learned very quickly that a motor wind would shred film socket holes in an instant, and manual advance would as well if I wasn't careful to advance slowly. Film is lovely, it just requires its own learning curve. :)

Thomas, I just want to say I really love watching some of your previous videos and for whatever reason stopped watching and had also recently noticed I've been going through a lot of mental stuff lately as well as being sick this past week.. the upload notification obstructed what I was doing on my phone a moment ago and I'm really glad I mistakenly miss-clicked it.. it just feels so nice to tag back along with your photography journey once again. It sounds really out of place for me to comment, but I just wanted to let you know how much some of your content means to myself, and many others
