Up here in Canada, since it's so cold, there sometimes isn't much to do. Not every goes to the outdoors rinks, or skis, snowboards or snowshoes. So the people that don't do that stuff entertain each other, I think that's why we have so many comedians out of Canada. Glad you had a great time Thomas, can't wait for the next one!

Very useful to get your comments on an image that, in your judgment, did not quite make the cut; then compare the comments on an image you liked better. We learn from both, and their juxtaposition. Thank you!

Great video! Personal and technical insights, thoughts, photography practicalities and motivations explored, your pleasant voice without the distraction of music - and you're clearly comfortable with your fresh start. I enjoy the in-the-studio videos almost as much as the on site ones. For me, this is the winning formula! Thank you for all you've done and continue to do, Thomas. Your calendar looks great on my wall, by the way :)

Please don't forget the Panther falls. Go to the lookout for wedding veil falls and walk to the south end of the parking lot(sign is there) at the 1st switchback keep going straight north and you will see a trail that will take you under the panther falls. (about 800' waterfall drop} Sunwapta falls, Cross the bridge and go to the waters edge to get the island with the water going around both sides. (sunrise location) At Jasper go to maliaine lake canyon. You can walk on the frozen water up the canyon. I parked at the top of the falls and walked down to the gate and then walked up the water to the canyon... amazing!

Hi Thomas, great to see you've got your mojo back - happy and excited with friends, and creative freedom in a new location. I liked all your photos. Thought I'd just mention that Rachel Lerch uploaded a new KZfaq vlog Q & A session, and said you'd be her first choice to collaborate with. She's in the Rockies and seems very positive and passionate about photography, so I thought maybe worth watching some of her Rockies vlogs. You were the first photographer I followed on KZfaq, and through your collaborations I now follow about about 10 including Brendan and Greg. Thanks for the inspiration and education, and the laughs!

I suspect that with that crowd, the methane bubbles weren’t just confined to the frozen lake. I think the establishing video clip from that morning is actually a stronger composition than either of the photographs. Mountain silhouetted against the colorful sky, clouds and light streaking out from behind the mountain. It works especially well in a 16:9 frame, but might also have been nice with a square crop and the horizon near the bottom of the image.

Key words from this video for me are “I took the time...”. So true. You took the time to focus stack. If we all took the time we would have better compositions, more satisfying images. I usually get too excited and ‘snap’ so I’ll make more effort to take the time. Thanks.

Thomas, your work is gorgeous as always, though I understand what you're saying about the first two photos. When you showed one of them, the first time in the video you filmed while photographing them, it was beautiful. I do think the best photograph is the ice with the bubbles! You were very brave going on that ice lake to take pictures. I don't think I would have been able to do it. Too afraid it would crack. Thanks for all the work and your wonderful channel!

Glad you had a wonderful time in Canada, Thomas. I always enjoy seeing your stunning work and hearing your explanations on how you create your images. As I said in my last comment to your previous video, I made it out to Vermillion Lakes in Banff on Sunday. It was my first photo outing of 2019 and I was so excited. The sunrise at Vermillion was spectacular, but I unfortunately slipped and fell shortly afterwards. My 1DXII and 100-400 that were in my backpack got damaged during the fall; the lens separated from the camera, and both the camera’s and lens’ mounts were pretty mangled. Such as life... It’s going to be a big expense and long wait for everything to get fixed. I’m really looking forward to your Canadian videos more than ever now to get my photography fix. Cheers.

Thomas, thank you, as your last video motivated me to get up to Abraham Lake myself, and it was (in terms of my satisfaction with my images) the most successful day of photography I can remember having. I almost had the opposite 'issue' - though I wouldn't really call it that - in that I couldn't stop shooting the details. I have more amazing detail shots of the bubbles in ice than I'll ever know what to do with! And still managed to come away with some great landscape shots too. The lake is so giving! Thanks again, and I hope you can explore more of our beautiful province and country in the future!

One thing I do and have seen Ben Horn do as well is use the warp/skew or similar in Photoshop to 'straighten' horizons. I realize some people will ethically not want to do this, but I think sometimes with the perspective of ultra-wide-angle lenses it actually makes the image more true-to-life. I've even been know to use liquify with a large brush. One of the biggest issues I have is with looking down on lakes in the mountains with a wide angle. It often looks as though the water should be flowing off to one side.

Loved the Focus Stacked Methane Bubbles to the distant peaks bathed in that lovely glow! I feel the shot of the bubbles trapped in the ice, (Final image) would look better with the distracting white haze at the top of the image cropped out. As an abstract image perhaps a 1x1 square crop would frame it better?

While you may not have liked that image as much as you wish, let me tell you what I see. You said that you took this trip because you felt stuck, and needed a spark. What I see is almost like a cliff, and below the cliff is a fresh slate, a chance for something new. It's just up to you to figure out what to fill that void with. Yeah, I know that's deep and sappy. Yet it's the first thing that came to mind while watching this. Cheers from the California.

Hi Thomas, You normally show us one or two images from a days shot. I went for a dawn to dusk shot last week and shot 345 frames (quite a bit of focus stacking included) First cull got rid of nearly half, but then I slow down and find selection difficult and very, very time consuming. I would love to see how you deal with this and file and library management. I only discovered your channel a few weeks ago, and I'm really enjoying catching up with your old posts. I agree with your choice, the picture with the bubbles on the ice and the mountains in the background, just beautiful! As for the first with the diagonal leading line in the snow and the rosy sky over the mountain, it is very beautiful too! I have learned a lot with the simple way you interpret the places where you go and the result of your photos, sometimes you transform a photo with color without great glare in a spectacular black and white photo! Could this photo work in a "sepia" environment?!?!?!?! Hey, continue to inspire us with your creativity!

You say you love simplicity, doesn’t the image at 4:57 show that? The lead up to the mountain is simple, where the mountain is beautiful and pink at the end of the journey. Could say that sometimes the journey is simple, but the end of the journey is glorious.... I bet you in a couple months, you’ll look at the image and actually love it. I Think you put too much pressure on yourself to get an epic picture, that you can’t see that you still got an amazing picture. If printed, it’ll be incredible!

Thanks for sharing your holiday snaps, they were great the mountain picture which you liked looked stunning even on my basic monitor.......but I am afraid I could not stand that snow under my feet! I only like winter for a couple of days and even then the sun has to be out.......never the less I enjoyed your video and it looks like you had a good break, well done! You needed it.........
