I just can't accept the shrunken down Thomas WOOD D10. It's just too whacko vs the earlier versions. As for the painted variation of Thomas WOOD thats near impossible to find in store in Oz. It was for a very short time available at ALDI as a special buy but it only had a few characters. The painted Thomas WOOD is basically are rare as hens teeth. But the whole supply chain of these Mattel toys has been really bad for a few years now. The virus times has only made it worse. Great review, I never knew about the two different body styles of the old classic D10.

I think the reason that the Diesel 10 models from 2011 onwards have more friendly-looking faces is because in the CGI series, every character basically HAD to be smiling in promos and merchandise. Even villainous characters like Diesel, Diesel 10, Arry and Bert had friendly smiles in promos and merch. I guess since the CGI series was more light-hearted and played down to little kids more, they wanted every single character to look friendly.

The Diesel 10 I have in my Wooden Railway collection is the 2013 model. The ideal Diesel 10 Wooden Railway model should be like the Take-Along model; having the model series face, a Pinchy that can raise and rotate, and being long and having eight wheels. The BRIO model was kind of like that, but it was more like a crane since Pinchy had a magnet in it to carry cargo boxes and was attached to a string. (And yes, I actually had the BRIO Lofty from Bob the Builder as a kid). The post-2010 Diesel 10 models are a perfect indication of Diesel 10's villain decay (and the reason he's the image for the "Character Derailment" page on TvTropes); Diesel 10 went from being a homicidal maniac to stealing Christmas decorations.

My favorite wooden model of Diesel 10 has to be the original 2000 version. It's not perfect, but it is ten times better than the Brio & Wood versions.

Diesel 10 is one of my favorite characters even though his models do get worse over time it's interesting to see the changes that he's gone through the only demon quality about the wood versions is that well it doesn't extend it does turn which is a plus. I would go with a classic Diesel 10 but I prefer the Brio face because it's just so much more evil and intimidating. Overall I love the video

I had the original Diesel 10 from Thomas and the Magic Railroad that I had when I was a kid when Thomas and the Magic Railroad came out. I later got the Day of the Diesel's version because I saw that as a major improvement from the Magic Railroad version. And I also got a Mattel version from a huge ebay listing and I had been trying to resell it along with a Percy I got, but I was not able to get it sold and after watching this video, and seeing as you mentioned about the shorter front section and back section, I thought that's something similar to Bear, so I'm thinking of making my Mattel Diesel 10 into a Bear. It's very different from the other Bear customs I've seen, but it is good to try new things or things in new ways. I did also get two Thomas Wood Diesel 10's one of each time. The unpainted version was made into Sigrid while the face went onto my custom Bradford. The painted version was left as is and I'm using it for Diesel 9, Diesel 10's narrow-gauge brother from TheRailwayInspector3's Narrow Gauge movie that he made a decade ago.

I think that the main reason for the happy Diesel 10 face in his models 2011 onwards is either so they can make the face look like the one on promo images or because his original face looks scary.

Once Again, an excellent review! However, One thing you didn't seem to notice is that the color of Pinchy seems to change slightly between each version. It's most notable when you compare the "Magic Railroad" Diesel 10 and they "Day of the Diesels" Diesel 10. Also, you said you had some of the old Brio "Bob the Builder" Stuff when you were a kid. I actually had some of those too! I know I had Scoop, Muck, and Lofty in my Wooden Railway Collection. (Funnily Enough, I actually found and watched an old home video of me opening the wooden Bob the Builder stuff on my 2nd Birthday).

Perfect diesel 10 : 2000 body, 2019 Wood Pinchy that can rotate 360 and has the length of the 2000 and pinchy can open up and in side would be a magnet , brio face

I feel like if Diesel 10 was in real life ( minus pinchy ) If you took off the face the stripe thing would wrap around that area like a gift. Again Brio nails the face! I honestly I would repaint the Brio one a rusty red, remove the face and you could have a railway crane. He looks more like a crane than a diesel with a claw is what I'm trying to say here. But I do get what Brio was trying to do it just did'nt work as planned.

Believe it or not, as big a fan of Brio as I am and as much as I love Diesel 10, his Brio model is actually my least favourite of all the Brio Thomas models. I love the face and Pinchy's articulation, but the gap it leaves is awkward and the overall shape is all wrong. I just can't look past it. For Pinchy, I've got 10 year old blu-tack sticking him to the top of the arm. If it were up to me, I'd put the LC face on the 2013 body with the articulation of the TNP model. Great discussion as always, good job!On a side note, the idea of Pinchy being painted on made me laugh more than it should have. The sad thing is I can actually see it happening one day knowing Mattel.

The stripes on the 2013 Diesel 10 and beyond are the most accurate. They go in a loop around him. (Imagine it’s like a design on a skirt) By the way, the Brio Diesel 10 reuses Daisy’s Model. They just cut the indent for Pinchy into her roof

Nice review, the stripes on the Mattel Diesel 10 are supposed to look like that, one side slants one way and the other slants the other way. The shape on the second version of the Mattel Diesel 10 is more accurate to what he looks like as the end bit, is supposed to be that short. I do wish that the Wood Diesel 10 had 4 wheels as, you see they painted the spots to where the bogy's are supposed so go, and the middle wheel implies that he has a set of wheels in between his two bogys. If I had it my way I would take the face of the Brio Diesel 10 and put it on the body of the second run of Mattel Diesel 10, it looks more menacing with the sunken eyes. The main flaw with Brio Diesel 10 is because Pincky is on a string, he looks like a crane. Nice review.

The 2011 version has the most accurite body shape with the correct windows and smaller "run-off area" and the mattel version has the most accurite stripes becuase they faced towards the right in TATMR and DOTD but we all know that the one with the best face is the OG model without a doubt.

The first color (for the first two) is just a bit to green for my liking, as for the first CGI one it's color is more the same as shown in T&TMR, the face on the first CGI one look's more crazy and the other first model face look's more evil.

I get the point of version 2 of the 2013 diesel 10 but guess what KZfaqr Sammy Clark has that version 2 of the 2013 diesel 10
