No matter how long Thom chooses to compose and perform songs, let's all just appreciate he wasn't another musical genius that died young or went mad. What a gift for history that this creature has given us roughly 30 years of impossibly beautiful music.

*HEAR! HEAR!* And, he has never gone 'mad'. He has always been on point with the political and environmental climate of the time for every solo album and a few Radiohead albums. Hail to the Theif was a nod to Bush stealing the presidency from Gore and hanging chads. He has stated so in several late night TV interviews.

I met Thom years and years ago in a pub in Cornwall as a mate of mine was working with a mate of his, who was working with Radiohead at that time. I remember Thom saying that every time he came up with a nice, calm tune, Jonny would then come in and start wanting to add distortion and a mass of noise over top. He wasn't complaining and said it with a smile. It seems conflicting ideas between band members can be used for very positive results while other personalities in other bands let it destroy them
@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington4 жыл бұрын
Interesting story, but I think it's an over simplification of the song writing dynamic in the band. Jonny is capable of being quiet and brooding too. I think you could just as easily say that without input form the rest of the band, Radiohead would sound like Thom's solo stuff-- and while the Eraser was godtier, everything else is too one dimensionaly electronic heavy--we get it Thom, you're a fan of electronic music. I just don't want to hear an entire album that sounds of Idioteque over and over.
@directtalk14 жыл бұрын
@@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington It would be an oversimplification if it were my story but it's not. It's something Thom said, presumably, referencing a moment in his life and not his entire career with Radiohead

G Vulture it only had 8 tracks on the studio version but there was also The Daily Mail, Staircase, Supercollider, and The Butcher that released around the same time as singles. Unfortunately it's a construct of our ageist music industry that says that artists have a shelf life that ends around 25 years old. The reality is that there are some amazing artists, producers, songwriters doing some of their best work and improving right up until the end of their lives Luckily (for us) Thom has a fan-base that will just keep on following him as long as he's making music so he's transcended this roadblock by a mile. The industry just isn't capable of shutting him down.

This version of Bloom was shown to me by a classmate of mine when we were doing homework together at university. I thought it was cool, but not much more than that. The next day, when I took the subway to the university in the morning, I decided to listen to it again. I almost burst into tears on the train.

I have been listening to Radiohead for a long time and i just discovered this song. This is the version of this song that is the best version. I heard this song on King of limbs but this version is where Thom gave it its soul. That droning sound in the background the bustling of life and then it becomes so loud that it overpowers everything. One of the most tragically beautiful songs I have ever heard.

@@onurince6189 Nope, this version takes it and I love TKOL.
@onurince70633 ай бұрын
@@oliverram3243 This version is a piano rendition, not a complete one. Perhaps what sets this version apart is the polyphonic nature of the piano, as opposed to the other version. However, it lacks percussion, bass, and other sounds. The harmony of the melodies is a key component that defines Radiohead's unique sound. If you have a fondness for piano and are particularly drawn to the main melody of the song, along with a clear vocal, then I can understand your preference. This is a subjective matter. But the original song is richer than this played

Theory on the “ocean blooms it’s what keeps me alive”-That is literally true. If the oceans algae didn’t bloom- we wouldn’t have the oxygen and all kinds of other stuff we need. Interesting the inspiration for this song came from watching blue planet. The loops sound like the sun hitting the water. Looking up to the surface- the distorted light. Can’t explain it. Anyways brilliant as usual- I always find myself stumbling to this version of the song. Blows my mind everytime
