If they Have a longer version of the movie having Gorr killing gods it will deff make the movie so much better. I feel that's what it was missing cause it didn't capture how terrifying he is. It felt rushed.

Gorr had almost no back story, they would have been better serviced follong the comic and showing the gods constantly ignoring their prayers. A quick dialogue was not enough to feel empathetic. Also, how vain are these actors today that you have to see their real face. I love how most aliens just have different skin tones... It ends there. 🙄

It didnt even need to be much longer, you just needed one scene of him going and destroying a room full of people with ease. Instead you see Thor kill as many gods as Gorr and Thor easily knock him away during the first fight.

How to turn this movie from a 7 to a 10: 1) A more fleshed out backstory to Gorr. Needed more scenes with his family and daughter and how much they actually suffered yet stayed loyal to the gods the entire time. 2) Gorr actually battling and killing other Gods. 3) Showing the gods in a slightly more sympathetic light instead of drunken, horny, heathens. Maybe an explanation for why they refuse to interfere and why it's important that they have worshipers and followers. This would have raised the stakes immensely to this story because the whole time I couldn't care less if Gorr actually won or not. 4) One solid opening mission with the Guardians where we see how painfully out of place Thor is and how he is overstaying his welcome. That would have set up his arc nicely with needing to find his own family and purpose. 5) Valkyrie coming to grips with her past trauma and having an actual character arc. Same with Jane. Needed some flashbacks to Jane working hard and coming to grips with the fact that she physically doesn't have the energy to continue and seeking Mjolnir out of desperation- not just a flashpan idea. 6) Something, anything, hinting at Kang or a larger threat. These past couple Marvel movies have felt like a collection of stories instead of chapters in a saga. The thing is all of these things could have been achieved with like 15 minutes of more screen time and nothing in the actual movie would have needed to change to accomodate them. The tone of the movie would have very different, but I would have preferred the contrast of this underlying dark tone to the whimsical adventure they go on instead of just 80's rock music and screaming goats for the whole run time Sorry i turn my comment to an essay guys

I agree with basically all of your points. Ragnarok was only 10 minutes longer but somehow felt way more complete. There was never any tension in this movie. Christian Bale did great and Gorr should’ve been a top tier MCU villain but he was like in 4 scenes.

No I don't think point 3 and 4 was necessary. The mission they showed with GotG was fine enough imo. Also it makes sense for the Gods to be careless like that. It's fine they didn't need sympathy. Also the shape at the end where Gorr wished for his daughter was in the shape of Kang. Yeah it was more of an Easter egg instead of like showing that he's coming soon as a threat though.

There's a detail that some people may have missed. The reason why Jane was worthy is because Thor enchanted Mjolnir while they were still together with Jane, he told it to take care of her, this was shown during the flashback montage scene of their relationship, Mjolnir glowed the same way it did when Odin cast the enchantment in the first Thor movie

@@c.518 I feel like she was already able to get into Valhalla and already worthy of Mjolnir by being loved and trusted by Thor in the first place. The only part relating to being taken care of was it calling her when she needed it most, even if it ended up killing her. She died by battling cancer, which sent her to Valhalla, which is somewhat poetic, if you think about it. Maybe the reason it drained her was because it somehow STRENGTHENED the cancer within her body rather than eliminating it. Otherwise, I feel like she would have been worthy the entire time they had been apart from each other.

It could just be me not seeing the path and I am definitely open to being pleasantly surprised. Edit: spelling

I hear ya. Definitely Dr. Strange was too much of a disappointment for me. I had high hopes for that one, and it was a letdown. Thor wasn't quite that bad, I thought. It wasn't great, but wasn't bad. It was in the same vein as Ragnarok, but didn't quite hit the same heights of intelligent humor and entertainment. I think this is going to be a problem trying to bring in so many lesser known, less experienced actors. Robert Downey Jr. did so much for the franchise just from an acting charisma perspective.

The recreation of Love (Gorr's daughter) and the fact that her reflection in the abstract plane shows a Love-shaped star field instead of the reflection of her physical appearance leads me to the following fan theory (based on appearances of Eternity in the comics): Love is actually an aspect of Eternity with the memories and personality of Gorr's daughter. Eternity has done something similar in the comics in the past, creating or recreating people and embodying himself through them, to allow him to better understand the existences of the life forms that comprise his being (and thus to more fully know himself). Eternity is very specifically not Death ("he" is Death's "brother", with Death and Infinity being his "sisters" and Oblivion his "brother" (using quotes because they're all beyond gender but tend to be perceived by humans as having those genders)). Eternity cannot raise the dead, he would have to ask Death to do that for him. He does, however, embody everyone who has ever lived and will ever live, so he has all their memories and knowledge. He also controls time, so he could have pulled her from a moment just before her death and healed her, but Gorr held her after she died and laid down next to her grave after he buried her, so there really wasn't an opportune moment to pull that move without altering the past. So, what Gorr sees as his daughter, we see (in the reflection) as Eternity embodied in the life, memories, and personality of Gorr's daughter. Which very much figures in to the notion that while Eternity has no particular reason or obligation to grant anyone's wish, that doesn't mean it can't spark Eternity to have an idea to do something that benefits him and (in some sense) also grants the requested boon.

Re: the wolf-woman scene and the Lycan child: in the comics, during a period when (as part of one of Loki's plots) the New Mutants are on Asgard, they meet Hrimhari, the Wolf Prince, who, along with his people, is descended from Fenris. They're shapeshifters who can assume humanoid and wolf forms. They are at least partially distinct from werewolves in Marvel, who are said to be rooted in a curse from the Darkhold, tied to Cthon and his "son" Varcolac (a wolf-like demon created by Cthon fusing beasts, demons, and proto-humans). I could see the MCU streamlining the origins, or combining them (say, having the Darkhold curse corrupt one of the Asgardian lycans into something contagious, thus starting the transmissible curse of lycanthropy far back in Earth's past).

A huge letdown after Ragnarok personally, even the comedy didn't land as much in the movie theatre we were watching in. This movie needed more emotions for audience to feel for the character's motives strongly. Also, Thor the character killed it in Ragnarok with Bruce w.r.t chemistry between 2 Superheroes but his scenes with Natalie felt forced many places. The overall MCU current phase connectivity also felt lacking. Gorr deserved more scenes, the movie was too short and quick to emphatise much with any of the main characters.

In the scene when they go to where eternity resides. I just realized that it meant eternity was actually in both infinity war and endgame. The scene where thanos gets up from the water(after getting the soul stone), and in the scene where Hawkeye gets up from the same location in the water in endgame. We can actually see Eternity in the reflection of the water before they get up… they kind of used the same camera work when they introduced love for the first time, when she walked up to Gorr. Her reflection in the water had the same affects as the reflections from the infinity war and endgame.

I’ll give Love & Thunder a 7.5/10 … it just didn’t have that hit after hit fire like ragnarok did. Antagonist: (Cate Blanchett as Hela) felt like a force to be reckoned with. I felt lost on how to feel about Gorr in the middle of Love & Thunder until the Third act when he tells Thor to look after “Love”, also there was not a lot of “God Butchering” in this movie. The Guardians came & went by the end of the First act like how I predicted in the Trailer, The Actress who plays Sif definitely deserves better character treatment into future MCU projects after all of these years later, I loved Russel Crowe as Zeus but the lightning bolt design was meh .. maybe it was takia’s intention to make it look generic in a comedic sense. One thing I do love about Love & Thunder is how it sets up a lot of things behind the primary story of the film: Valhalla, Eternity (and maybe infinity down the line), Omnipotence City (also the two CELESTIALS THAT WERE THERE: Eson the Searcher & Ziran the Tester, and THE SHADOW REALM (which is NOT one of the Nine Realms) and neither is the Quantum Realm 🤔 Marvel needs to explain this.

I don’t know if I’d call it a continuity error, but if you look at the bottom right of the screen in the shot just before we see Thor throwing his cape over himself as a disguise, you can see the Gods of Emotions, or at least some people/gods dressed in the Emotion Gods cloaks. Valkyrie shows up a few moments later, so unless that edit is supposed to represent a lot of time passing, it seems unlikely she could have taken their clothes and done whatever she said not to ask about in that short amount of time.

Just finished reading a bunch of comments and I'm surprised only one person vaguely mentioned one of the biggest EE's. Sif losing her arm. It was the same arm that Thor loses in the comics. It's significant because they made an extra effort to point out that she lost her arm. Charlie, I don't know what that means, but that's not a coincidence. It's not just a reference. They made too big of a deal about it. It's got to have some sort of future storyline element. Two points that need to be pointed out as Marvel inventions. 1) Hercules isn't a god. He's half human. In the Greek stories about him he was never regarded as a god. Just very strong and powerful because of that god part of his being. 2) Jane Foster is a Marvel invention to go along with the secret identity and love interest very similar to Superman and Lois Lane. Sif is Thor's wife in Norse mythology and Marvel has always played that down. This is why I've never really cared for the Jane Foster character even though I love how the MCU made her character. The whole secret identity and secret love with the human is straight from Superman's trite storyline. Since Thor's Dr. Donald Blake side has been basically abandoned decades ago keeping the Jane Foster story arc just seems forced to me. Whatever. I don't write the scripts or stories. So, who am I to be picky?

Saw the movie yesterday morning. The soundtrack is awesome for anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s. Christian Bale is awesome as expected. The problem with this movie is too much Taika. He has a very specific, quirky, cheeky sense of humor but it's just too much in this movie. Ragnarok was great because it was Taika's humor at 60%. In Love and Thunder, it's Taika at 110%. Another problem is that Hemsworth and Portman have zero chemistry, which is partly the reason the first two Thor movies weren't the best. I don't know if the Jane Foster Mighty Thor storyline was the best one for this movie. Also, way too much voice over/exposition in the first act of this film which seemed to me to be somewhat lazy writing. The end credits set up something that could be really exciting though, very much looking forward to that.

I think there is a 4 hours cut with scenes of Gorr killing Eitri and some more gods. There is also a scene where Gorr destroys the religious tattoo's on his skin. Sadly it was cut in the final version. I think marvel tried to make the film not too political with the factor "religion" but I would've loved to see that. But on some degree I also understand it because it could be misinterpreted as mocking religion. The problem lies more in that most MCU films are made for "everyone" which means that they will always try to make it appeal for the norm viewer.

I've been wanting Beta Ray Bill but not anymore. They won't do him the justice he deserves and make him into a joke of some kind.

Big props to Taika Waititi for sneaking in the bloodiest battle in MCU history by giving everyone gold blood and still getting that M rating 😂😂

I think my favorite part was the fight in Omnipotent City when Thor and Jane, Val and Korg were fighting Zeus and his Greek warriors. I was a great epic battle with that surprising twist with Thor stealing the lightning bolt. I did get a kick seeing Darryl in New Asgard and Matt Damon and Sam Neil wanting a new play. I'd love to take a cruise to New Asgard. Thanks Charlie!

Thank you for explaining how Love got the powers of a god. I have been asking everybody. And explaining why she should not be a god. I love it that Chris Hemsworth’s daughter played this role!!

That added to my enjoyment of the film. Really glad Chris got to have that.

They deleted too many crucial scenes. Like c'mon, no serious scenes with Gorr attacking other gods, every time we get there after the fact, not cool. Needed to have like extra 15min just dedicated to Gorr

I think Thor's ship at the end of the movie was an Easter egg for the movie "Spaceballs". It looked exactly like the RV with wings that was a stand-in for their "Millineum Falcon".

Awesome breakdown!! I liked the movie a lot!! I really did not expect this movie to introduce Hercules!! From when I was young I loved to learn about Greek mythology. Because of that I’m super hyped and very curious to see what marvel will do with Hercules!!!

In the flashback, I think they hint that Mjonir was actually accidentaly re-enchanted by Thor, when he says "Promise that you'll protect her" the runes on the hammer glows, also togheter with the scene with the children maybe is a ways to slowly introduce the concept of the Thor-force, show similar powers to Odin, he does make sure to says that the power will be temporary when giving the power to the children, also the ways lightining spreads through the children looks like Yggdrasil

The Kronan god’s scissors throne is also another Rock Paper Scissors joke. Rock beats scissors, his throne is made of all the scissors he’s beaten.
