Yes Thor is the mantle you get when you wield the hammer yes and it grants the user the abilities that comes with it but Odinson as they call him in the comics now was already a god and already had abilities associated with that status. The hammer just added to what he had plus command over storms etc. Jane Foster gets all of that but she isn't quite as strong as he is because of what I mentioned. Plus it seems they are hinting he will get back his hammer in the comics.

wrong the hamy only grants him a finer tuned control over the storms. but he can still control the storms with or without the hammer. an example of him commanding the storms is in the comics when thor finds out he has an older sister named aldrif who was thought to have been murdered as a baby yet she was adopted by an angel from the long lost 10th realm. thor goes to the 10th realm(heven) and gets his ass kicked by Aldrif. he is separated from his hammer and while chained up. and this is exactly how it goes queen of the angels"and i would so hate to lose my good humor"thor" then i will ask a question of my own lady" in this place, this realm, where are the clouds? queen"clouds? now what where? oh yes the white blemishes in earths sky the midgardians relied on them to water crops" queen foolish thor, you stand in heven now. where all is beauty. we brook no imperfections here in heven. there is neither cloud in the... some angel: the stars are gone, great queen blocked out,"queen what" great masses of grey and black fill the sky weeping tears upon us" you see even though heven has no storms Thor had the power to summon a massive storm through the realms to Heven and rec havac on heven in Mighty Thor #12 we learned that Mjolnir actually contains a living storm but Odinson has power over the weather by himself. Later the enchantment also grants the wielder “the power of… Thor.” Meaning that Thor himself also shares the power to control the weather with Mjolnir. They both independently have the power. During his fight with Gorr, the young Thor is able to call down a storm where it rained fire. And at this point in his life, Thor was unable to lift Mjolnir. So he is controlling the weather without it’s assistance.

I am talking about the original Thor without all of the stuff you mentioned which was implemented after by different writers. It's kind of silly that they did write this stuff in because it then makes you question why does Thor want the hammer back in the Unworthy storyline when he clearly doesn't need it.

There is also an anime called 'Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok', loosely based on Asgard....Loki was banished to Earth and his form was turned into a young child as punishment, but he was still smart enough to become a detective. Been awhile since I've seen it, but it's pretty good.

I know right? :D Then again, Norse mythology has like... five+ different afterlives. Odin and Freya share the soldiers who die in battle. Some people the gods just kind of. Like more and pick up.
