You’re forgetting the most important aspect of the PS3 aesthetic. It’s B R O W N. Nier and Resonance of Fate fits the PS3 aesthetic pretty well. On that note I should like, continue playing Nier (as well as yakiwami) instead of playing Ace 7 lol. I enjoy it when you talk about specific things like this. Like anything really specific like a genre or gamefeel thing not many people really talk about, but makes you go "oh ikr, that thing yeeeah". People are already nostalgic for PS1 graphics, so I wonder how this stuff will be remembered fondly.

8:20 that's actually why Sheep Dolly aged faster, because your DNA gets "older" and if they make a clone out of you, your clone will be born with older genes. It's not the same when half the generic code for each of your parents. Great video, by the way, as always you create the most entertaining vidyagaem revoos
@AustinKiefer
@AustinKiefer 5 жыл бұрын
you beat me to saying that. Its because how cloning works is they put a part of the males DNA, raw DNA not sperm, into a egg in the female's ovaries. That DNA is carrying the exact information, including age, of the male and creates a child. So the birth of the child has DNA that's the same age as the male that they clone from.

MGS4 is definitely one of the best cases I can think of where the heart and experience of the piece outweighs anything it can actually deliver in terms of a complete story or individual story moments. If you've been along for the ride from the beginning, there's really nothing quite like the final fistfight's multiple "phases", and I love that the game is so willing to leverage gaming's unique aspects as a medium - namely that they're *interactive* in a way other media just isn't - and just be completely unashamed in the corniness of it. Like the microwave hallway and how it exhausts the player through button mashing as well. At that point even the game itself is practically becoming that way overeager weeaboo fanboy friend you have that's nudging you with an elbow and an ear-to-ear grin and making you admit that yeah, this is corny as fuck, but sometimes it's okay to just accept that. So much of the game seems like they held a meeting and asked, "so, is this too melodramatic? Does this go over the line from serious into ridiculous? No? Then turn that shit up, then go a step further." And I'm all over that shit.

8:10 Actually, yes, as far as I know, it kind of is how it works. DNA has so-called telomeres, which get shorter and shorter each time a cell divides, and when they get too short, cell can't divide any more, so it's basically a DNA-encoded age of the cell. There are several ways to clone things. The first one that was found and used, which was used to clone the sheep Dolly, for example, was a method which inherits the current length of telomeres of the source cell, so yes, it transfers its current age to the newly created embryo, meaning you get a baby with cells of an age of the source adult, and thus lifespan shortened to whatever time the source organism had left at the time of cloning. Normal sexual reproduction doesn't inherit telomere length, though, in normal sexual reproduction, they get re-built to their full starting length. I'm not entirely sure if since then, there's been new/other methods of cloning developed, which don't inherit telomere length (and thus cell-age of the source organism). I think there were, but I'm not sure.

I'm just amazed by lenght of the video, great job! Mgs4 was the first metal gear that i played, its funny because it turned into one of my favorites games of all time( and talking about gameplay, its the best experience of all mg games, beside the fact that i just love the phisics when a bomb explodes around you, and makes snake fly away hahaha), its just nice to see somebody praising the things that should be praised in this game, the justice that it deserved. Never bothered me the fact that the game has hours of cutscenes, to be precise i always enjoyed them, i think it is the price to not screw up the gameplay. Take the modern games like uncharted etc, they trade gameplay freedom to delivery a movie like experience, i consider it bad, game should work as games, like mgs 4 does, the game is able to divide narrative from gameplay, so you can have the best from both worlds

When you said that "thats not how that works" in regards to Snake's accelerated aging, that actually is how it works. When you clone something the clone's DNA starts at the same "age" as the original. Whenever DNA replicates the ends, telomeres, wear away a little bit. Over time thats what leads to aging. When you clone someone you don't get the option to repair that damage. You can of course restore the telomeres, but any damage caused by aging can't be undone.

Haha this video and MGS4 in general highlight what a rollercoaster ride a Kojima Productions game is. So many moments that feel like this is the peak of gaming then to be crashed down when Kojima's crazy shit comes along for the ride. Although I do think your representation of the ending was a little incomplete and uncharitable in a lot of places. MGS4 took the structure laid out from Naked Snake VS The Boss and made it a chess match between two misinterpreted versions of the will of The Boss, BB's misinterpretation and Zero's BB's misinterpretation: lead him to start a nation of soldiers, that called their own shots, but only to be manipulated, and framed as unhinged lunatics. While in the process, bumping up against the vigilantly conundrum. How in the end you just become the villain. Zero's misinterpretation: lead to the digital enslavement of the human race. In the end main line all MGS games are these two wills clashing against one another at increasing steaks. It was hype as fuck to see that Old Snake knew he couldn't let Liquid just destroy GW and take the reigns in it's absence. However in the end Old Snake broke free from the Patriots chain. By doing this exactly the way he did it, old Snake really saved us all in the end by stumbling on the correct will of The Boss. Liquid Ocelot successfully destroyed GW, reset the world's debt, and rendered every single deadly weapon useless. While Snake killed Liquid, Eva, and Big Boss. This makes all the potential misinterpretations out of the way to assume power, meanwhile the world was back to the wild West however with working technology and no debt or weapons. The world was resored to a true honor system, free from so much baggage debt and destruction potential. This is why Solid Snake is the GoAT, he stumbled on the correct will of The Boss just doing what he thought was right, while at the end he just saw himself as a killer doing another hit. Which is why it was impactful that who but Big Boss to save him from a gun in his mouth and deliver that fact to him face to face, complete with a CQC hug. 4s ending was choice, and that is why MGS2 and 4 are my faves. Because I prefer Solid Snake, Otacon and Raiden's inherent natural purity to lean towards good. They are the characters that I aspire to on that fact alone. Some people are just good men, while Solid was a man that did nothing but follow orders while being lied to and betrayed, in the end he pulled it out and saved all our asses as correctly as he could. That's what heros do. A fitting ending to one of the greatest fictional character in my opinion.

DRUNK COMMENTS, DON'T HELD THEM AGAINST ME, I AM INNOCENT 1- I need a Tomozaku Fukushima to help me with my writing cause I hate setting justification, I just like writing funny banter and SODOMY. 2- 7:20 Maybe his snake is flaccid but dat ass, oh, dat ass brings my gerontophilia to the surface. And then you follow that up with "Life is Beautiful", the best song ever written after Snake Eater. 3- 14:00 This is one of the most memorable levels, even if I rememner it because of cool aesthetics and how boring it was. 4- 18:00 It's inteesting that you get into the cinematography. 5- 22:23 Eva looks like the best gilf. She's 80! More gerontophilia! 6- 23:42 Good one. 7- 28:00 Devin didn't suck, I'll give Kojima that. 8- 30:00 You are a genious of poop. This fragament of Johnny should be canned with Piero Manzoni's art. 9- 35:00 I liked all your deep thoughts around characters but we are finally at that point where we have to stare at Snake's old ass. We should punch him forward through Mapplethorpe fisting. It would work. 10- 36:36 This is the moment where I hated this game with a passion.The original idea was for Snake and Otacon to be executed on Joan Baez's "Here's to you". But the team convinced Kojima for this shit. 11- 40:00 Fuck Konami for not letting you show the stuff, thank you so much for analyzing the shitty iPhone port, the multiplayer and the arcade I knew nothing about. You're in the top of your game here. 12- I declare this is the most complete and funniest video essay on this fucking turd of a game. ThorHighHeels is the best game reviewer in KZfaq. Fat better than me. 13- F U C K K O N A M I

7:28 She wasn’t “barely a thing” Olga was a major player and a key to the S3 plan succeeding, and the only reason she went through with the Patriot’s plans was because they held her daughter hostage. And I’ve never heard such disingenuous criticism before “i guess we’re going off of the Digital Graphic Novel now” No. Olga herself is given more screentime but Sunny doesn’t have an inch of screentime or even more importance than in the game, the only addition was having Snake conclude Olga’s plotline by saying he’ll take care of her kid.

I love the story of MGS for the emotions more than the logic, it's one of the very few pieces of fiction where I don't give a flying fuck how dumb it gets, because it's a series that at that point deserves it, and it's just so cinematic and beautiful (Only Kingdom Hearts manages to be as stupid and beautiful at the same time in games). I even enjoy the Big Boss reveal at the end, yes it's kinda' dumb, but I like some of the things being said, and it's a nice closing scene between the two that managed to get me a bit emotional, as both were characters that I loved and seeing them together was great. The only thing I legitimately dislike is the cast of 3 being the Patriots, as I didn't even remember that shit to be honest, it's dumb, inconsequential and isn't in character.

Simulation Theory is legit mindblowing though! With one assumption - that eventually computers will be able to simulate a person's entire experience - the odds are extremely overwhelming that I am already living in a simulation and nobody else I experience really exists. Hell, even just accepting that premise without going further takes the odds from 0% to 50%, but once you figure a computer can simulate an entire person's existence for them, well, what business only has one computer...

*WARNING: NOVEL AHEAD* Okay, finally finished the video and I gotta say congratulations for pushing out this monster of a video and dodging the Konami SS. Not gonna lie, I was never the biggest fan of MGS4. I respect all the effort that was put into it, and in terms of graphics and gameplay , it really holds up (not that the PS3 has aged that poorly though). I guess I draw issue with the fact that it (at least feels to me) like a game spawned to give answers to people who hated MGS2. I'm sure a lot of love went into the game, but I just get that feeling from it. That being said, while I dislike the answers given, I do think game serves as a great emotional conclusion to the franchise. I first played these games back to back during the summer of 2013, just before high school started and I grew to love each and everyone of the characters, so seeing most of them go on with their lives really made me happy in a bittersweet kinda way. I won't even lie when I say that seeing Snake rapidly age, and knowing that he was going to die soon (whether it be in game or not) after getting to know him through the course of the series actually really made me sad. The whole game was pretty melancholic in that regard, even though he gets a semi-happy ending. I never got to play MGS Online on either game, and it really sucks that Konami is so prone to just vaporize entire parts of it's history for whatever reason (or just let it gather dust like SH4). Kinda reminds me of Demon's Souls servers being shut down, and being brought back by the fans. Only that in Demon's Souls' case, all's you have to do is change your PS3's DNS, not mod the console. Anyways, fantastic video and thanks again for the shout out at the beginning!

Given that he kept wanting each game to be the last, I'm convinced that Kojima was trying to kill off his series in the grandest fashion while fucking with as many people as possible along the way, thinking the only way to save his art was to destroy it, and that was why the series got so stupid. Nice video man! I actually haven't played MGS4 since its release, so this was a nice throwback to those days. I remember really liking the core gameplay, but I remember that there was very little of it. Instead you had those hour long cutscenes at every point and when they were as stupid as the Johnny stuff, it was really a big turn off for me. Also the fact that every stage had its own gimmick emphasized the lack of core gameplay when you couldn't get that experience in stages like the noir segment or in the shadow moses stage. Also after MGS3, I really missed the indepth codec calls in MGS4. Those are the feels I remember from back then.

Isn't the Johnny and Meryl bit meant to harken back to the melodrammatic and grand gestures of old espionage flicks? I figured the world wind romance of it was a result of Kojima DIRECTLY playing up all the influences of the stuff that inspired MGS for what was MEANT to be the big finale. I thought it was fun and awesome and silly in the way the rest of the game was.

I think the 'our raw materials are vintage' line comes from this concept: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC305328/ There was a theory (not sure it's still considered valid) that aspects of an organism's DNA (telomeres) slowly degrade over the life of the organism. So, if you source DNA from a man in his 50s you might wind up inheriting DNA that's already partially 'aged'. This might depend on from where you source the DNA.

You say that Fukushima departed from MGS4 because it was too corporately dominated. Seems like there are lots of reasons people leave jobs, which could be as mundane as bring caught stealing a stapler from the office or hating the crunch hours and deciding it would be better for one's mental health to go work at 7-11.

Doubt youl read this but the hug is a big deal as snake has foxdie in him and it will kill big boss and does immediately. He whent out with zero and wanted to have no ill will for snake. He also tells snake the aging process will return to normal giving him a few more years or however hed naturally have. But yeah that does feel like asspull for emotionall payoff.

Haven't finished the video yet as I am about to enter class, but that intro was unnerving as fuck for me! I wasn't at the screen for a few moments and hearing my own voice out of nowhere gave me a weird Twilight Zone doppelganger feel. Was expecting it to say something creepy too. Anyways, I shall report back when I finish the video.

I feel the biggest reason why I disliked MGS4 was because I played 80% of the game in one day. I played the second half of MGS2 in one day and I liked that game, so there could be more reasons I can't quite think of now. Soon enough, I'm going to play through all of them again, so we'll see how I feel about it a second time.
