Gaoshun looks great and basically looks how he’s suppose to. Even though 37 year olds now in days still can pass for their early to mid 20s. On the other hand, the emperor who’s the same age looks like a modern day 55 year old. People in the 1500 hundreds aged quicker in comparison to people now.

@@justahermit1172 As far as I'm aware the majority of ancient civilizations (including ancient China) considered girls to be mature at around 13-15 (the previous Emperor in this story is particularly bad because he liked them even younger than that). I agree that specifically 18 years old probably isn't accurate, but contrary to what you've said the age of consent generally used to be lower. By about the mid-twenties or so most women were typically considered "past their prime" according to most stories I've read set in this time period and searches I've done online.

12:33 From a political standpoint, there are plenty of reasons to want Jinshi dead. As the eunuch, he runs the inner court of concubines, and there is a brand new concubine that is tied to the old regime. He has the emperor’s ear when comes concubines, influencing who could potentially become the mother of the country. His primary identity as the second prince makes him first in line to the throne and in the way while the emperor has no sons. His secret identity as the first prince and emperor’s son, that not even he knows, puts him endanger for the same reason.

hmm i thought its because suirei is the grandaughter of the previous emperor., making her the half niece of the current emperor, and thats why she want revenge? the prev emperor R a helper at the age of 10? helper gave birth to a daughter which is thrown away, and suirei is the daughter of that lost princess?

@@mr.bee5225 The previous emperor was a pedo. The current emperor’s mother is probably no more than 12 years older than he is. That’s likely the sick reason Lishu, now 14, was sent to be the previous emperor’s concubine. His preference means it’s unlikely for him to have any more adult grandchildren than Jinshi. Any children he had would’ve been registered to the Royal family for political use. I think this has to do with the new concubine’s family, who was close to who the previous emperor’s mother, who ran the country at the time. It was probably no secret the barren Ah-duo was leaving, giving that powerful family time to set up that conspiracy. Hell, they probably initiated the process. Being close to the previous empress dowager, they probably know that Jinshi is first in line to the throne, either as the emperor’s brother, or as his son. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the assassination attempt was made after the new concubine entered the palace. IMO this is definitely political, and not revenge. Suirei is brilliant, but there’s no way she did all that alone.

I have a feeling the series will end up having Jinshi be the next emperor to be the heir instead of the concubines having a male son. It's just makes no sense for the hidden prince storyline not for it to not lead to anything later on.

Spoiler She expressed interest on being pregnant and giving birth just so she can try if umbilical cord had medicinal properties. It isn't count as cannibalism if it's from her own body.... Or so she thought.

The "resurrection fluid" basically would be a form of anesthetic. You would go into a deep sleep, like the kind you would do for a surgery.

That's not quite right. Indeed one of the ingredients is anesthesia drug. But Instead of deep sleep, this one is closer to hibernation. So this resurrection potion also contains a metabolism-lowering ingredient.

Ceremonies in the imperial palace temples can only be performed by the emperor and imperial princes. This isn't made clear to the audience because we've been following Maomao's POV and she doesn't know this. She's probably thinking it's the same as in temples in the capital where noble families take turns running the ceremonies. The only possible targets are Jinshi and the emperor himself.

Wow a lot to digest. Ok a lot of links have been exposed and I think more to come. Lakan probably sent Lihaku to Maomao up to speed. Suirei has been exposed as maybe the leader and genius of the conspiracy, but it would make sense that she is working for someone else. Given the targets seem to be the Royal Family including Consorts. We finally learn even more about Jinshi deception. 1. The baby prince died and Jinshi knows this as well as the preferential treatment the previous Emperor and his mother gave to current Emperor’s consort contributed to her survival giving birth at such a young age and Ah-Duo’s suffering and injury. In these scenes we see the Prince, now current Emperor, sympathy for his dear friend and advisor Ah-Duo. 2. Jinshi observes how the current Emperor was repulsed by his father’s taking very young girls as consorts and his refusal to visit Lishu. Jinshi wonders what fate awaits Lishu - given the Emperor and Jinshi’s evident cherish of Lishu I suspect her fate may be to escape the Rear Palace to a more hospitable location and associates. 3. Jinshi and Gaoshun have been taking drugs to inhibit their male desires for many years, 5?, and two Jinshi ages are revealed that is his fake 24 as Rear Palace Eunuch and real age 19 now? Also Gaoshun is married has at least two sons with Basen being the younger. The older is married with one child. A new and powerful character is introduced as a favorite of the past dowager Empress and now while not embraced by current Emperor is someone everyone needs to be careful around including the Emperor and Jinshi. Things continue to get complicated with Gyokuyou being pregnant, but allows Maomao to return to the Jade Palace. I wonder if Maomao can get her adopted Dad to return as Rear Palace doctor - be a lot safer for the Consorts during pregnancy and birth. Finally, the new consort, Loulan is mysterious and a bit of a chameleon that neither the Emperor or Jinshi understand or even can describe. Even with visits every 10 days she shifts herself. What did her Lady in Waiting whisper to her?

I think the square embroidery on Jinshi's robe is supposed to indicate that he is royalty. In the Chinese court, the embroidered "seal" indicates rank, whether you wore a dragon with 4 claws or 3, or a crane, or other animal said a lot

Ohh yea for those curious about jinshi actual identity, because the web novel, light novel is different and the Manga fallows the Light novel. (anime fallows the manga) SPOILER: . . . . . . . . . So in the light novel/manga jinshi is the emperors brother. While in the webnovel jinshi is the son of the current emperor.

Nice reaction it seems you guys are enjoying this series. I also wonder, from watching the series, we see how Jinshi was practicing with his servants grandson in private and how he said he trained with the soldier who got poisoned with the salt. I hope we get to see him fight in one of the future episodes or know the reason why he's being trained to fight? Maybe it's for another important reason? Plus I feel the concubine may be sick, if she got pregnant then she got pregnant again really fast and I feel the opposition (suirei and whoever else is working with her) would do something to prevent another heir from surviving.

Gaoshun has at least 2 Grandchildren by his eldest son. His saying another grandchild says 2 or more. Good luck Basen. Suirei was recognized by a senior Dr (also young DR teacher) in Outer Palace as a very talented person who he adopted. Then she got into the Outer Palace so … 1. Who was this teacher doctor how did he connect with Suirei? 2. Where did Suirei train before meeting Dr? 3. Who facilitated all these connections? 4. Where is she now? If she is a master of disguise (faking a man to help with her crimes) will we see again? Does any of this have anything to do with Loulan? So many threads to unravel.

Solving any kind of mystery, the one question that matters above all is: “who benefits most?”. In this case, someone who actually knew that the Emperor and Jinshi are actually stepbrothers, and that the real second air to the throne died as a baby

She's smart when it comes to her interests. Other than that, she considers herself below average on everything else. In her training to be an apothecary, her father (Luomen) has taught her to be methodical so that she can prescribe the correct medicine based on someone's symptoms. This helps her think through problems and piece things together.

FYI for all stated ages in this show you should subtract 1 year to get their actual biological age as this show uses the old Chinese way of counting years. When someone is born, they are considered 1 year old on day 1 and on their 1st birthday they would now be 2 years old, etc. So Jinshi is physically 18 by now. We know from earlier in the show it was stated the Empress Dowager and Ah-duo gave birth 17 years ago, and Maomao started the show at 17. So her and Jinshi are likely the same age. And if we do the math, about 1.5-2 years have passed since the start of the show, to make them both about 19 (or 18).

Its unfortunately not very good, they've made a list of questionable decisions that you can look into yourself if you want. But to kinda highlight how bad it's got, they shot zukos character arc in the back of the head, amongst others. But that the big one that easily recognized as a bad thing. Have yet to have inclination and time to check so salt grains, but supposedly the original team walked on the show during production. Which if true is very rough. I'm typically not one to doggedly adhere to the original, for example I liked Korra well enough tho it definitely had issues, it's not the original but only fools expected it to be. And said original has its issues as well, but ive heard nothing good about the live action beyond it's technically better than the original(the movie), which is a massive shame. Hopefully this doesn't put them off from making another attempt in the future with people who care more in charge, since id presume it was higher up pressure considering the nature of some changes.

@@glich6035 I've watched the show, it wasn't the best thing on earth and it wasn't a 1:1 rendition of the cartoon but that's the point. I enjoyed it as it's own thing even though they changed a lot of things and some of the acting was not great... it's a good adaptation overall, not the best but enjoyable enough just like the OP live action

Who is Loulan? She is like a multi-personality type confusing Emperor and Jinshi, does her clothing, makeup, etc change as her personality changes but it seems to follow the 10 day Emperor visit rhythm. Is her psychology’s change like the sleepwalkers avoidance either real or fraud?

Pretty sure her personality stays the same, she just changes up her style frequently, possibly to keep the Emperor off-kilter and not in her business, since I'm also pretty sure she's got other plans than being a 'fertile field' for the Emperor.

she is doing it on purpose, that way even if she switch place with her assistant, as what this eps said, the emperor think that she seems to be a diff person ea time he visit her, she can change with someone else and even the emperor doesnt know that ea person is a diff person. she can just wander off wearing a helper clothing and nobody know who she really is, she even become maomao friend and maomao think she is just a helper maid. she is a daughter of a very high officials, therefore even the emperor thread lightly, and cant do anything about her "weird" behavior.

Current working theory in my household is: this is all a plot to get the kingdom by probably Lakan and others in the military. Jinshi is the prince next in line, if he dies no heirs. And this episode reinforces how every concubine has something off going on with the emperor. If you get Jinshi and the emperor, the kingdom is open for the taking.

why would she kill her grandson? the only problem emperor has is that he doesnt have a male heir atm, but he cant just out and say that jingshi is his son, if he say it, the person who swap it which is his love ahduo will be executed. also jinghsi doesnt know that he is the emp son, as far that he concern , he is a brother. alsO suirei has her reason for the revenge

@@Ash_Wen-li It depends on wether she knows that her second son died or not. If she doesn't know than yes, she would think that Jinshi is her son. But then why making him a eunuch? But if she knows that Jinshi is not her son, than it's reasonable to make him a eunuch, and make him drink that thing. When I said that she thinks that Jinshi is emperor's brother, I mean that she thinks that he is a son of the previous emperor and Ah Duo. So I thought that she think that Jinshi is a stepbrother to current emperor
