Film Synopsis:
Not only is Thoroughly Modern Millie a zany romantic spoof of the Roaring Twenties, it’s a musical that won an Oscar for Best Original Music Score! Julie Andrews stars as Millie, an innocent country girl who comes to the big city in search of a husband. Along the way she becomes the secretary of the rich and famous Trevor Graydon (John Gavin), befriends the sweet Miss Dorothy (Mary Tyler Moore), fights off white slaver Mrs. Meers (Beatrice Lillie) and hooks up with a lively paper clip salesman, Jimmy (James Fox). In the end it takes a rich nutty jazz baby like Muzzy (Carol Channing) to unravel all these complications, give a great party, and match up lovers.

I saw this when it came out in the movie theaters in 1967 with my mother. We had a wonderful time watching it. Today, this is still one of our family's favorite movies.

I've got you both beat at age 59. I don't think that I would have seen this movie when it first came out in 1967 because I was to young, but we had the record album, and we used to watch it everytime it hit the theaters, and I still watch my copy of it on video tape.

Interesting that Julie Andrews and James Fox are both British playing American but James Fox mastered the American accent while Julie Andrews still sounded British. Everyone was so in love with Julie Andrews that nobody seemed to care.

Dude, the first time I watched this movie I was 9 and I fully believed that James was American. Much later as an adult, like 2 years ago I found out that not only was he British, he was POSH British. The kind of British accent American's use when they joke with their friends or theater directors want a uppity snob. My jaw hit the floor when I heard his real voice.

I finally got to watch the movie. It was great. She was great when she said her lines. I even liked her outfits. Especially Miss Dorothy’s clothes. They were gorgeous.

I saw it in the movie theater, too. James Fox was such a live wire in this movie. It was strange to see him later in films like "The Remains of the Day" after he came back to films. He looked so different. You can't help recognizing the Fox family members, though, performing in so many British PBS shows today.
