In light of all the speculation surrounding what happened at Dyatlov Pass, the only survivor, Yuri Yudin, was often asked what he thought happened to his companions. He maintained until his death in 2013 that the Soviet military had to be involved in the deaths. Yudin believed his friends stumbled across a military exercise and that the Soviet government bore responsibility for the loss of his companions. He said that all his companions were expert hikers and skiers and were well equipped to handle natural phenomena like avalanches or snowstorms. Yudin noted that after searchers found the campsite, the military was more concerned with what the skiers were doing in the area, not what had happened to them. After searchers found the hikers, Yudin was asked to identify the items collected at the campsite. Yudin said some items did not belong to his fellow hikers, including glasses, a pair of skis, fragments of a ski, and a piece of cloth he identified as part of a soldier's coat. In a journal that Yudin kept all his research of the event in, which came to light after his death, Yudin referred to "soldiers' tape" and wrote he was confident it was among the items he was asked to identify. Yudin claims in his journal that he tried to bring this to the colonel's attention who was with him at the time, but he ignored it. Yudin speculated that before the official search found the hikers' campsite, the military had already been there and pointed to these items as proof. Yudin also posed the rhetorical question: if something as mundane as an avalanche caused the death of his friends, why did the government close the case so quickly and mark it as classified? Yudin also noted in his journal that there was one factor at the site of his friends' deaths that none of the "normal" suggestions could explain: the mild radioactivity of the clothes and bodies of the deceased hikers.

funny how the delivery makes so much difference in the tone and mood of the video, Lemmino's version was delivered in so much eeriness and horror that shook the bone, meanwhile T2 has a more lax approach with jokes along the side

The dyatlov pass incident is one of the most fascinating, crazy a mysterious cases I have ever heard. Watched any and all material I see about it, and it's still has never ceased to absolutely fascinate me

Strikes me as odd that, after 10 days or so in the Russian winter, they still immediately found all their footprints...

A weapon's test makes the most sense imo, could easily explain the radiation, strange injuries, subjective panic & why the government tried to cover it up.

I can remember reading somewhere that there was a broken compass found in the tent. The luminous paint used in compasses up until the 1960’s was based on radium which is highly radioactive and could explain why there was radiation found on the bodies.

I actually think the "killer fart in the tent theory" holds up. Mystery solved.

There were 2 moments in my life, when I could've died, even though I took it too easy, but Dyatlov pass mystery fucks with my soul, really terrifies Me, I've been working as mountain guide for many years already and imagining something like this could happen to Me and my group is lot to think about.

Ah yes, the avalanch that crushed them while they were in their tents, and then the avalanch got up and walked away, leaving no trace of ever having been there, and also fixed up the tents afterwards.

I've heard this story many times and it's definitely one of my favorite unsolved mysteries.. Your mind runs wild with frightening theories..

Given the track record of the Soviets, I doubt anyone will ever get a clear picture. They were experienced and would have really considered their surroundings before setting up camp. Just weird, probably a test that carried out with an unintended fallout. It's very sad but probably what happened. Must have been one tidy avalanche though. Nice enough to pick up after itself.

I always felt the tent flap was blocked in order for them to cut themselves out rather than just unzip the flap. Thanks for the channel. Always interesting.

12:51 I heard the radiation was actually because one of the hikers was a chemistry student who had worked with radioactive materials. They had less safety standards back then, so it wouldn't be out of place

I have watched a ton of videos here on KZfaq. And I have rejected a ton of videos here on KZfaq that were created with someone reading their email letters or something equally dull and boring. So I don't generally like someone standing in front of a camera just saying words. HOWEVER, your videos are an exception! I think it was actually solved thanks to Frozen’s animation for snow. A meteorologist (specifically a man who specialized in snow and avalanches) noticed how realistic the animation was, and (with permission and help from the animators) took their design and applied it to the conditions seen in Dylatov’s Pass. Ask A Mortician has a video that explains it MUCH better than I could.

Dead Mountain was an interesting book covering this incident, goes into depth on some of the explanations mentioned here. Worth a read; I enjoyed it. To be fair I find the whole thing fascinating so thanks for covering this, T2!

Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar is a great book on the matter. He goes to Russia, talks to surviving family members, works with scientists to come to a fairly reasonable conclusion.

There's another case that happened in the Russian wilderness that's very similar to Dyatlov pass. But there was a survivor!! She said everyone literally went insane in front of her eyes, started tearing their clothes off, started smashing their own faces and bodies onto rocks. If she had died too, no one would know what happened to all the people she was with (who _all_ died). They still can't explain what made them go crazy all at once though!

It was an avalanche according to Caitlin Dougherty(ask a mortician). She explains how scientists hooked up with the animators from 'Frozen' movie' and used their algorithm to recreate the snow conditions.

Why am I watching this, I'm Russian, I know this story and all the theories... I guess it's the accent that hooks me

Read about this so many times. The fact too that as one onlooker said, the bodies were a strange reddish orange, hair turned grey, immediate aging, and the coffins were lined with lead. I mean I realize as bodies deteriorate some things happen but this just seemed so extreme. They've had mummies thousands of years old that were in better shape in Peru of course, in a drier environment. The strange last photo of a flashing light on their camera. Yes, glowing orbs another hiking Troup saw that night in the sky, something that was a recurrence on the mountain according to the Mansi. It's still very mysterious that they cut through their tent too when it had flaps.

Honestly this sounds like it could be reasonably explained if you combine some of the theories. Test bombs went off one night, coating them in radiation. The hikers tore out of the tent, thinking it was an avalanche, grabbing whatever clothes were nearby. Some fell into a ravine in the dark, sustaining several blunt force wounds on the way down. Upon realizing there was no avalanche, the hikers tried to return to the campsite, but were unable to find it in the dark before dying of hypothermia. Eventually some wolves came along and picked away what they could from their now ice solid bodies. I doubt anything supernatural was to blame in this case.
