For the past 3 years, Soraya has been running her mobile tattoo studio in Kabul. She doesn’t keep her shop’s address fixed due to security reasons, because her job can be a dangerous one in Afghanistan. Though tattoos are not foreign to Afghan culture, ink-on-skin artists like Soraya can easily land in trouble with the dormant Taliban, with their fundamentalist interpretation of the Sharia law. Touching and tattooing male clients is an added taboo for her as she makes her way as the first female tattoo artist in the country.
