Probably your best ever video, Paul. Professional and informative. All you guys clicked as a team perfectly. I especially liked the way you were no nonsense and humble. I guess that’s what these majestic creatures do to a man.

Thanks Brad, they certainly are some of the most majestic and amazing fish in the sea!

Some of my worst days fishing is when it’s calm. Nothing bites but as soon as weather changes they switch on

I’ve got some terrifying experiences from my fishing friends 1. My friend Terrance caught a dolphinfish while he was going to land it a unknown creature came up and swallowed it in one chomp 2. Bryce thought he hooked a marlin and was running around I went to get the gaff to help him land it then it heard a loud thump on the upper deck I went up to have a look what has landed on the deck wasn’t a marlin but a gigantic mako 3. This is a scary one my friend was kayak fishing of the coast of somewhere in the Antarctic only nearly getting her head taken off by a narwhal and later encountering a pod of killer whales 4. There’s a lesson to be learnt from this. Jonny my non verbal autistic friend unwarly threw his line where scuba divers were when he hooked something he started going crazy thinking he got a Goliath we helped him reel his Goliath in but when we saw it what he hooked wasn’t a Goliath but a old Japanese scuba diver 5. When my cousin was lobster fishing the rocks he got nailed in the back by a gigantic adult female tiger shark severely tearing up his back luckily it didn’t sever his spine

Not many people get to see, let alone catch a sword in their lives. To get 3 to the boat is simply amazing. And to actively assist in researching those beautiful beasts is also amazing. I just read one of the other comments mentioning one of the tagged fish ended up in Fiji. That's mind boggling to know they migrate so far, so quickly! I wonder what the reasoning behind it is? Spawning, chasing a food source or just wanted some of that Fiji sun? 🤣 Well done Paul and team.

Rob, thank you so very much for your kind words! We can only assume spawning but I'm also thinking that after hanging out in ice cold Tassie water that a bit of Fiji warmth would be a fair call too! ha ha! On that comment thread below there is a link to the IMAS website/pdf which has lots of fascinating information on it from the sat tags that we helped deploy! I agree, they are incredible fish of which I have so much respect for. Thank you again and all the best in your future fishing journeys!

Question about your technique; you use a brick to get the bait to the bottom, is there any other weight on there after you disconnect? If no weight, what keeps the bait down and not scoping? Do you use a wind in leader? If so how long? Thanks from Oregon, USA. LOVE YOUR SHOW!

That was Great , wow what a fish , will you be showing any of the info the tag provides ?
@ifishtv4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy, there isn't video available but one Tag from the final fish was found after about 200 days swimming. The fish went from Tasmania, all the way up the coast to off Townsville (QLD) then over to Fiji! Insane fish! ifishtv keen to see an episode on that in the future. Absolute amazing fishery and i plan on doing a trip there my self in the not so distant future. Something about top water spanish mackeral in gnarly conditions just really gets me excited Hooked 2 mackies my self last year from a rock wall in perth and a whole year has past and its almost time to try again 😁

Why wouldn't you pull out the hook in the last fish?
@jayarjun56523 жыл бұрын
There should be a fine for leaving that hook in the fish’s mouth! It would not be able to eat due to pain. It would then either starve and or die!

How far offshore are you?
@ifishtv4 жыл бұрын
G'day David, not far at all (compared to the rest of Oz) The continental shelf is only 13 miles from St Helens boat ramp, so as soon as we hit that we look for bait/edges in 450-550m then drop the bait!
