The tail that Tuna have is described as a high aspect ratio tail. That is the depth of the tail squared divided by the surface area (dimensionless quantity) stays fairly constant as the fish grows larger. Frictional drag force is quadratically dependent on the transverse speed of tail oscillation. Drag force is also dependent on tail surface area. That is why where the oscillation speed is high to reduce the drag effect is by having that crescentic moon shape tail of low surface area. So from an evolutionary point of view speedster fish, tuna, wahoo, sailfish, marlin have evolved to having these high aspect ratio, crescentic moon shaped tails.

Man Paul's a knob. One day a chilled out lad will do a fishing show without the hype and over-excitement, and less talking. Just pure fishing.

Awesome how you catch the tuna leaving it half dead from the trauma and struggle, and having it die with exhaustion within 24 hours of tagging. Absolutely incredible!

Lactic acid build up kills fish after long extended battles. You can't use light gear for big fish, fight it for hours and expect them to survive. Man that fish probably died later that night. 4 hours? lol

Why in the world didn't they haul it in and sell it? They released a fish worth at least $50K. Or thereabouts.

I know 100% that wasn't 10-12kg of drag pulling it that easy. For that much drag you have to twist the line around your hand for grip even with mono

He talked about that you muppet! The pink line is the top shot . It’s pink mono with blue braid under it so you can put more line on the reel . You should pay attention if you want to catch a fish like this some day .

I seriously question the skills of the boat driver. Appears to be constantly driving off the fish rather than reversing on to it whenever it makes a run. Simply drifting down wind is poor technique. Can drastically shorten the time to land, and increase fish survival rate by reversing into the direction of run as much as possible (swell permitting). After 4hours of fight like that, its post release survival is extremely low (proven IMAS fact)
@Ematixz4 жыл бұрын
When ever we are hooked up, we keep the boat in gear just to keep the line tight, the kid was 17 years old mate. Again, you want to be fighting the fish away from the boat, not under the boat...
