I love Bill's attitude. An attitude like his I think will help anyone to do anything he/she wants to do. I have a way to go to get my attitude near his and I am going to work toward it. His attitude is very inspiring. Thank you Mr. Alexander. We love you too!!

I hope everyone got to read the book about Bill, his early life, how he got to be in America, his struggles to get to where he eventually came to you and me. A good artist, a great teacher and a good man.

Alexander Art A German named Bill/William? I assume it was Wilhelm Alexander in the old country.

Thank you, I assumed such a gentle soul, would have seen little adversity, I am in awe of such a strong yet gentle person, I am try to get through life, Mr Alexander's videos, give me strength to carry on, one day maybe I can do so, when life is less a pain, but rather a joy :-)

I remember this man on tv and just enjoyed watching him create such beautiful paintings when I was growing up in the 80's... I liked his voice and just love it when he says"my almighty brush". Thank you for posting his videos, I'm going to watch them all!!

Aliyumyum this is exactly how i thought & felt too .....i discovered him in ‘81 .. the yr i graduated H.S. ....& beed Watching him ever since. I have a couple of his instructional video tapes on VHS, but must say thank God for youtube.

I remember seeing and recording this episode off of my Local PBS channel back around 1996 when Bill had his 2nd run at panting on TV after his first Run I think in the 1970s into the 1980s. I like both Bill's and Bob's Style of panting because they are both unique even though they use the same technique. Bill has the tendency to paint very unique stuff such as candles and books and eye glasses which is the thing I greatly admire about him. It seems like to me that Bob took what Bill had taught him and made it his own and built upon it. As Bob would put it "We are not teaching you to Copy"

@AAlexanderArt I've seen the website and am going to sign up for access to the monthly video collection - I'm sure there's much more treasures there than what you have here on the Tube! But money is an issue for me which is why I had to buy my paints and supplies locally instead of getting yours. Once I'm better, I'll give those a try. Thank you very much for your response and support! I've already gone through four canvases.. 😝

I watched Bill years ago on PBS maybe in the early to mid 90's I have always loved this man. He was such a gentle soul. Keep up the good work uploading his videos as I love to hear him again and watch his true magic!

What a beautiful human being. I am a beginner using acrylic paints. I am not sure if I can paint a similar painting with acrylics but will give it a try. I love Bill, what an uplifting artist to watch. He makes me want to keep painting and to eventually be good. (Hopefully!)

It's nice to see how Bill put a mountain together compared to his student Bob. His multiple-layer technique with the marbling really adds depth to the sides compared to just one color per side.

Bob is didnt want hard work and try to stay simple. I agree about the layers on mountains. It make make huge different.

+NeoSquirrel You are correct. With ONE STROKE, Bill created a multicolored background layer. When he highlighted that background layer, the highlights blended with those various colors to create even more depth and detail in his mountains. Beginners can pick this up, when it's explained to them, and immediately take their artwork to a higher level.

bob never claimed to be the best painter, bill is a much better painter, but bob's show wasn't really about painting, bob popularity had nothing to do with painting, bob helped people relax, bob had a calm endeering personality, watching and listening to bob is like taking tranquilizers, what bob did was unique and it wasn't a painting technique, he connected with people on a level unmatched and helped people just relax, so who the better painter is has nothing to do with bob...bill is a much better painter, uses better colors etc but bob and bill were the exact opposite...bill was intense, agressive, loud and bob was the total opposite.

Bill painted exclusively on stretched canvas. We suggest a "medium grade" canvas for Bill's style of painting. That said, you can use canvas paper, particularly for practicing Bill's method. You can find more tips, techniques, and advice on our website ( alexanderart.com/ ) Happy Painting!

You can paint this in acrylic but not in the same way. Oil paints dry slowly which allows you to blend and work into the paint much longer.
