the epistle of 1st John brought me out of my post Mormonism wandering and called me back to the Trinity. it was a gift to see it in your video, I also thought your comment about the psalms being sort of like a spell was interesting, I have felt that way too but I sort of like getting lost to conscious level thoughts on occasion when I keep pushing through. perhaps that is nothing but a sort of desensitization but I see why that might not be as good as being able to see and feel the psalms freshly rather than have some sort of machine-like interaction with the psalms. anyway thanks for the video, pray you are well

I quite like Martin Luther up to the Peasants Revolt. After that, he is fully a Magisterial Reformer. Anyone who disagrees with him on any major doctrine is a heretic. I personally think the Peasants Revolt shook Luther. The Great thing about the Psalms is that they minister to one in every situation. They build me up when that is what I need. They rebuke me when I need it. When I to drink from a mountain stream, I am refreshed. When I need sunshine, I get plenty of it. When I need to take a bath, I get cleaned. You can make videos about the Psalms every day, and the topic will never get old.

I don’t know if you a own a jordanville prayer book. In the morning prayers theirs “For The Living”. It’s covers the world, the church, those outside the church, apostates, heretics, etc :)
@dalecaldwellАй бұрын
I do. The BCP also has a prayer for 'all sorts and conditins'.
@FaithfulComforterАй бұрын
@@dalecaldwell Nice, I will have to look into the BCP. The “Say This Prayer Everyday and God will always be at your side” by St Paisios in the St George Monastery Orthodox Prayer Book is quite beautiful too.

Dale, you briefly mentioned that Martin Luther wasn’t a Lutheran. What did you mean by that? Because I’ve read a fair amount of Luther’s writings and I can safely say that the Lutheran Church has faithfully followed Luther’s doctrine on the Gospel, sacraments, and liturgy. I don’t see a discrepancy between Luther and the later Lutheran tradition. Can you please clarify?
@dalecaldwellАй бұрын
I should. I did not mean to imply anything about Lutherans, but about Luther, who was not at all wanting that a new church would be named for him.
@Steadfast-LutheranАй бұрын
@@dalecaldwell True, Luther did not want a church named after him. “Lutheran” was a pejorative name used by its enemies, like the name “Christian” originally was; but the name stuck over time. If we have to pick a name besides “Christian,” we prefer the name “Evangelical.” Moreover, the Lutheran Confessions insist we’re still “Catholic.”

@@Steadfast-Lutheran exactly. I should have said a bit more about thar.

Random question: So my wife's grandfather just died of cancer. It was a long ordeal and we live next door and have been helping through all of this. Anways, I guess he was a freemason and a shriner, I really have no idea what that means. I have heard some say you cant be a christian and a mason. What are your thoughts? I did my best to share the gospel with him be it in word or deed. I hope I did enough and that he has rest now.
@dalecaldwellАй бұрын
I think that it's always best to let God worry about such things. A lot of Mason's, including my grandfather, become Masons cause it's kinda like boyscout for big boys.

@@dalecaldwell I've been thinking on this, I have noticed some who hold to these beliefs of once saved always saved, saying a sinners prayer and the like, seem to be very much focused on everyone else's sins and salvation, and seem to pay little attention to their own. I have witnessed some be so quick to pronounce judgement and act as if they know one's relation to God better than them. It's not by works, but by golly don't do this laundry list of things or you're going to hell. Have you noticed this irony? I apologize if I have erred in this way.

@ColinV03 Do you watch The Chosen? Often it's too cheesy for a sandwich, but sometimes it's bnrilliant. There is a scene in which Matthew is talking to his old Centurian guard, Gaius, and Gaius asks him how he avoids worrying about things. Matthew says that often he wakes up with a lot on his mind, but then he remembers that he has just one thing to do today: to follow Him.
