As an old has been I will just ask the young people today, is there a limit to how many steps should be allowed while the ball hangs? I mean is any number of steps ok now on the hang? double, triple, quadruple step backs. Double euros, etc. It has to end at some point?
@blahblahblahblah60073 жыл бұрын
The rules says that steps would count after you picked it up with two hands, so you can take unlimited number of steps, and then gather or dribble again, as long as you don't carry the ball
@danielwester69132 жыл бұрын
The rule makes sense because if you're heading downhill full speed, you're going to take more steps between dribbles. If you. The only difference is you're slowing that process down. Instead of 3 steps between a dribble on the fast break, you're taking 1 step in that half second it's hanging. I used to not like it, but I get it

Man I been playing basketball for 40 years and got back into playing pick up games again and some of the stuff now days I been looking at. That is traveling. This and the drop back step that I now learned Harden started. Jeez the NBA just keeps relaxing the rules (they call it the zero step now). They want to see points on the board and they keep giving the offense more tools over the defense. I always had great defense and with these moves that are allowed it really makes it tough to guard. There have been crafty players for ever and now this is just figured out. I also have to say Jordan traveled all the time and maybe came from him. I do know, everyone thinks they are 3 point shooters anymore and as I drive to the basket no one follows for a pass cutting to the lane for a pass or if I pull up for a shot to rebound, they all move to the perimeter to shoot the long ball. I guess everyone from Bob Cousy generation thought everyone in the 80’s was carrying the ball. So the game changes. One final one I can not stand is the push off on people backs on rebounds. I will call that one every time. I get great block out position and a long rebound and people now will push you in the lower middle back.

same thought when watching the video. he takes one step and a hop, so three contacts. im in my 40ies . crazy how the rules ve been watered down.

Why do KZfaqrs teach moves that are only legal in the NBA. In almost every level of the game, if you gather the ball with your foot planted, that foot is your pivot foot.
@tiptopsaidhe3 жыл бұрын
This is known as traveling at every level of basketball except the nba. To not be traveling, one can land on both feet (a jump stop) and shoot, but not on stuttered feet. Or, even better, you could teach how to take that back or side step with a turn dribble.

@@that1guy186 He picks the ball up only AFTER that first step you're talking about. For example, it would be perfectly legal for him to take that first step and then continue dribbling as he has not picked up the ball. Using that logic, he only takes 2 steps after actually discontinuing his dribble, therefore it's not a travel and a legal move

no it's defintely not. when he gathered the ball after the dribble thru his legs, that's where the counting begins. so he first moved the right foot to the left, then the left foot to the left, lastly the right foot to the left again. I think the last step is a gathered step. It's allowed by some officials especially in the NBA and NCAA. In street league, depends in the ref though.
