Three Stooges Funny Mistakes and Painful Goofs

Take a look at painful sometimes dangerous goofs and funny mistakes the Three Stooges made on their awesome shorts starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard. See the Three Stooges Larry Fine fight laughing at Moe's antics, and hear Moe Howard and Curly mess up a line in the bloopers section of the video thanks to the hurried direction of director Charley Chase.
Also, you will spot stuntmen with bald caps replace Curly that you probably saw a million times, but never noticed. This video also features Stooge continuity and editing errors that cause some things to not make complete sense which is saying a lot for a Three Stooges short.
Crewmen, and actors face uncontrollable laughter as they fail to compose themselves against the comedy and fun happening before them.
Also featured are interesting props that were there, but you probably missed like a bar of soap with wheels. I also talk about painful accidents and mishaps on the set of the Three Stooges shorts behind the scenes involving the times when Curly sustained head injuries and Moe fell and broke ribs and yet finished the scene.
In the old days before CGI special effects Hollywood had to be creative and back then some of the effects were as simple as someone throwing a prop over a fence or a pancake to the ceiling to which the hand of the crewmen could actually be seen.
Some of the shorts in this discussion are Men in Black, Three Little Pigskins, Horse's Collars, Uncivil Warriors, Movie Maniacs, False Alarms and many other titles.

What I liked: You got straight to the subject matter. Many of these kind of videos provide a long and lengthy prelude. Describing the show, the actors, etc...., like we don't know anything. You, at least know your viewers. Your clips enlightened me of many details I didn't know. The video was concise, informative and entertaining.

We never seriously tried any of the Three Stooges stunts because we knew better, but would instead imitate some of their other funny traits! Like I once put a good amount of baking powder in my mouth and went out into the backyard - simulating how they would react to terrible food by blasting a big cloud out of my mouth! Haha!

As a performing artist in SAG-AFTRA I've worked roles where our lines changed on the fly, or a few of us tried holding in the laughter which can at times work with what movie or show you are in. The Stooges are why I became an Actor. Everything they did from their young days, until their zenith made me want to follow in their foot steps and with luck I was at the right place at the right time being spotted by a well known casting agent and that was the day that started my career in 2010 and from there became a Union member in the Guild. It was all because of the Stooges who made this dream possible for me.

2:50 - 3:02/ Even as a kid, it always seemed out of character for Curly to remind Moe to go a little easy with his hands. The tip-off was how his voice went down a register and you can sense the anger coming up the surface. It happens again in a scene when the Stooges are at a swanky party pitching lemonade. I forget the name of the short. But Curly tells Larry in a low voice that he'll peddle the lemonade...😂❤

A few other injuries sustained by Stooges come to mind...Moe nearly breaking his ankle on camera when he, Larry, and Curly were skipping while wearing women's clothing and high heels (I forget the short where it occurred), Larry getting stuck in the forehead with a fountain pen in another short that featured Shemp. This incident allegedly caused Moe to literally go after the director who promised that Larry wouldn't get hurt in the scene. Also, in the short Hoi Polloi when the Stooges were taking dance lessons and were imitating the dance instructor when a bee had crawled down the back of her dress, there were obvious stunt doubles for all of them.

There was also the episode where Moe fell on his side and broke his ribs. I think the episode is titled "Pardon My Scotch." Anyway, after Moe fell, he got up, slapped Larry and Curly, and passed out as soon as the director yelled, "Cut!"

@devinw5150 5 ай бұрын
@@melissacooper8724 According to an interview I saw with their sound effects engineer, he said as soon as Moe hit the ground, they cut the scene right there. Moe came back one week later and finished the rest of that scene even though he was in a lot of pain. If you look closely, you can kind of tell that Moe’s torso is wrapped with some kind of rib belt by his restricted movement.

This is a great video. Its amazing all the things you miss after you watch their shorts so many times and never realize the hands and the hidden laughter. The dummies I knew about because for a short time, the Paramount Network aired Stooges shorts when they were known as Spike TV and they would give trivia about the Stooges and they mentioned when somone falls in a short that they are actually dummies. Its still crazy how you don't realize something until someone points it out.

I can't believe all these, me and my older brothers used to watch the 3 Stooges as kids, because believe it or not they showed them for kids Saturday mornings, but I don't remember any of these, lol! Now, I would have though because I do when newer shows or movies make mistakes, that they left in! One movie Night Of The Comet, where supposedly everyone but few people, had all died, when they showed the city, where it was supposed to be no one there, in a corner of the screen you see a woman walking by a building, lol! This was in 1984 too, it turns out the filmmakers didn't do anything like most do, where they close the area off, they just filmed certain parts that were outside, during the very early mornings, so of course this woman got into a movie, without even knowing it! I wonder sometimes if she ever watched the movie and realized she was in it, lol!

Charlie Chase is largely forgotten, but despite his short life, he built up an impressive number of films. I first noticed him in the Laurel & Hardy film Sons of the Desert a few decades ago. In the 2000’s I did my own research on Charlie Chase and it turns out he started out working with Charlie Chaplin, largely regarded as one of the all time greats. Probably a coincidence their names both started with Charlie. He directed a couple or more Stooge short subjects in 1938, years before he both acted and directed a pretty sizable number of Hal Roach films. Despite his prolific filmography, he developed an alcoholic problem for many years and he passed away in June 1940, long before Curly and Shemp Howard.

Hey there! I recently uncovered a collection of cellulose acetate film sitting in my basement for decades. Turns out they were acquired in 1977 from a yard sale. I cannot say with absolute certainty what the titles are or if they are copies made more recently (in the 60s or 70s) as I never viewed these films. My family never had access to a projector so they just sat in storage. As an actor, I can appreciate the need to properly care for artifacts as these and I do not have any kind of cold storage to preserve/extend the life of cellulose acetate film but I'd be happy to donate them to an institution or a collector that has the means to care for them. This is what I believe is in the collection, based on handwritten notes on the sides of the reels: 5 episodes of the 3 Stooges --1. Yes, We Have No Bonanza (1939) --2. Phoney Express (1943) --3. Busy Buddies (1943) --4. I'd A Body Meets A Body (1945) --5. Snitch In Time (1950) And 1 feature film: "Young Blood" (1932) If you're interested in taking these, lease advise how best to move forward with this archival donation.

6:30, looks like the bucket breaks. You can see a piece fall down to the right of centre after it bounces off the guy. Use the < > keys to move frame by frame.

I've been trying to find the episode, where the stooges are entertaining at a high-society party, and the one playing upright bass ends up grabbing a saw instead of a bow, and proceeds to saw the bass in half! (Of course, somehow it doesn't affect the sound at all:)) Thanks!

There was a short that starts with the Stooges in court. Curly holds a white duck. Curly: "Don't you hurt a feather on his bed! Head!"

robbarbierri-The fact that Curly drank heavily the way his boss, Ted Healy did, was a major part of his stroke that he suffered.

Drinking and getting head injuries probably worked against him, plus I know he didn't get much sleep either.

@@tvcrazyman Yes, especially when he stayed out all night drinking and partying, instead of getting his sleep, and memorizing his lines. But Moe always said Curly was a bad study.

kevinmiller....I'm sure there were a lot of factors leading to the stroke... drinking, overweight ( both causes of hypertension which can lead to stroke), family history, perhaps, etc. I was wondering if the head injuries contributed. No way of knowing, of course. Take care.

Punk rock comedy. Blunt, simple, brutal at times. No coincidence Iggy and the Stooges was one of the forerunner bands of punk. The mistakes are all part of it.

I found this video on my Home Screen and being a huge fan of the Stooges, I had to watch it. And of course, it was great and informative. Some of the things pointed out, I had seen but several I had never seen. Needless to say, I have subscribed. Thanks for posting this.

L&H were the best in their longer storylines, while The Stooges concentrated on 15-20 minute short stories: 97 with Curly, 77 with Shemp, 16 with Joe Besser for 190 shorts.
