Three 6 Mafia, otherwise known as Triple 6 or da Mafia, is an iconic, GRAMMY award winning, American hip hop group from Memphis, Tennessee. The group's membership varied from album to album, the constant duo being Juicy J and DJ Paul. Other members included Gangsta Boo, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous, and Koopsta Knicca. Since beginning their career in 1991, the group achieved worldwide fame with their distinctive style of Memphis crunk, characterized by choppy, shouted lyrics and drum machine beats. They’re most known for their classic hits such as “Stay Fly,” “Tear Da Club Up,” and “It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp” (featuring Frayser Boy), which earned them the 2006 Oscar for Best Original Song. Three 6 Mafia has also worked with several well-known artists including Project Pat, Eightball & MJG, Wiz Khalifa and UGK. Three 6 Mafia is considered one of the founding fathers of modern-day rap and hip hop.

This song literally caused 2 full blown riots at clubs I went to as a kid, Resulting in giant brawls that ended up in a parking lot with people fighting on cars, chairs thru club windows and pepper sprayed dance floors. This song was like the match and fuel for pure chaos and I wouldnt trade it for a thing. RIP

The South has been producing this stuff for years. Manny Fresh, DJ Paul and many producers from the early No Limit Records have been making music like this in the south since the 90's. Only difference, they were regional/local music until songs like "Tear The Da Club Up" and "Back That Azz Up" became mainstream hit singles in the late 90's. They were mostly ignored before this due to G-Funk/Gangsta Rap and Northeastern Boom Bap dominating the scene.

I don’t know how bad it was in other states, but as a Tennessean, if you heard Tear Da Club Up (I’m older, so I was in the clubs before this song got banned) come on, you got your butt to the exit as quickly as you could; if you didn’t, it was very likely you would get your arse kicked and end up in the E.R., or you’d get shot.

Same here with the emotional shit. Two friends of mine were huge mafia fans back in the 90s and they both used to love this entire album. Both are gone in 2023. RIP Jeff G and Mike H. One died of a heart attack in 2020 from abusing cocaine for years, the other in 2019 after he was tazed by cops. Dude had a seizure right after being tazed and beaten down and never woke up from the coma he went into.

I never imagined a female rapper being able to bring the heat until I heard Gangsta Boo. Her talent and style were undeniable. You had to respect her. One of my favorite memories from my childhood was when my cousin got a new stereo put in his old Monte Carlo and it was the same week that Gangsta Boo’s new album came out. I couldn’t drive yet but we rode around BLASTING Where Dem Dollaz At. I’ll never forget it. Rest in peace Gangsta Boo. Still cannot believe it
