🕸 TAPESTRY TIPS 🕸 How to finish and hang tapestries!

When I first starting making full sized tapestries, I couldn't figure out how to make the battens on the back so the tapestry wouldn't tip forward .... until I was given a great method to try which I have been using ever since (thanks Natalie Novak - www.combedthunder.com).
Here I'm sharing that method with you :)
PS - I forgot to mention that with the velcro that is attached to the tapestry itself - I sew it first onto a piece of cotton tape, before sewing that onto the back of the tapestry.

hello from the Westcoast of Canada!thankyou for posting!!! I thought of the batten idea but thought of only putting a hanger screw in middle of one batten but didn't know how to attach batten to tapestry lol...I so appreciate your velcro tape idea and 2 battens..I would like to share to a group I'm in. Easy peasy! Do you knot the back yarn close to the tapestry then trim a few cm?;thought I saw that? also on your studio wall there is a hanging made out of plant material or raffia? Can u show in a video? I have woven with raffia and grasses before and interested. You are so talented, I'm still a beginner. Here we have the West Coast Indigenous Salish/Haida people and they weave Chilkat tapestries, like a twining technique..they r so fast at it.

Hi Karin! No, I only knot the ends if they are a slippery yarn like that metallic yarn - if it's more traditional yarn, then you don't need to 😁 The other piece is woven with x-ray film, you can check out my studio vlogs for more info on those 😉

@@pamelaabad9577 I'm still playing with the width, but the thickness is usually about 1cm ;)

Good idea with hook and loop thing. I fold edges like you, but instead of velcro I do the "tunnel" with wooden stick in it. Then I can hang my tapestry both sides (up-down, down-up). By the way, there are so many ways to finishing the taestry - as many as weaving weavers ;p Thanks for sharing with us your way :)

Aaah, so do you attach a piece of string to the wooden stick, and that is hooked to the wall? So you can see the string? Thanks for sharing!
